Hi! I've been on and off this site a few times so I never really took the time to figure out some of the more long term features. I've recently gotten a bit more invested and have been wondering about some challenges and features on PH, one of which is the shiny chain everyone seems to be talking about. How exactly does it work? Is it just hatching the same type of pokémon over and over again, in the hopes of getting a shiny after a while? And do I have to have the pokéradar or another item, or is it possible to do it without?

You have to buy the Pokeradar, and you have to pay to start the chain unless you have a premium membership. (It usually costs 50,000 PD or 50 Electric Gems to start the chain)

You can buy the Pokeradar in Emera Mall in the Specials section.

To continue a chain, you do have to hatch the same Pokemon over and over. You can't hatch any other Pokemon other than the one you are hunting, otherwise your chain will break. (If your curious on what eggs can break your chain there is a page that the pokeradar links to that is very helpful)

Without a premium membership, your chain will end as soon as you get a Shiny. Your pokeradar will reset, and will need new batteries if your going to start another chain. (Paying to start it again)

Yes thank you, that helps a lot!

One more question though: Do different kinds of pokémon (easy, hard, rare, etc.) have different chances in hatching shinies? Like, would it be easier to hatch a shiny magikarp than it would be to hatch a shiny eevee?

No, they don't. You can always check your chances of getting a shiny per egg on the pokeradar page though ^^
