So I understand that the higher the level of the area the better rewards and PD is received, but does the pokemon that goes in the area matter?
Ex: A water type going into the Fiery Furnace would yield better results because there is a type advantage.

No, the type of the pokémon has no effect on the rewards and PD from the area it enters.
