How do I remove a mega stone that’s not showing up as a hold item. The Pokémon is not mega evolved but I can’t take off the stone or mega evolve the polemon

Might you be referring to a mega bubble? Those appear on a Pokemon's profile like this:

They're not removable, it's only to show that your Pokemon can be mega evolved, you still need it to hold a mega stone for it to mega evolve.

The pokemon your giving the mega stone with must be Mgea-able in order to evolve if given a mega stone. Once you've given it there's no way removing the megastone.

@~SilentScreams~ - That's not true, though. If you give them the Mega Stone [as opposed to the Mega Bubble which they hatch with as -Naoto- explained] you can remove it as you would any other evolution item. [click 'remove item (mega stone)' on the Pokémon's private page].

Once it has evolved, the stone is 'used up' [like with trade-evolutions], so there is no stone left to remove.
