Trekking the old dirt roads on an uncomfortably stiff bike seat was never something enjoyable, nor was the fact that the town was the same way, old and unpaved. You'd always taken the alley between the Global Trade center and the old arcade building that had recently been renovated into a creatively named "Game Center" with tables set in rows where people played cards and children took to the whiteboards playing games of hangman with each other. The upper floor was where the more frequent visitors would come to buy lotto tickets and sit down to a slot machine. There was also rows of display cases showing off different prizes, ones you could only dream of winning.
You rarely ever spent any time there, instead you'd toss a coin into the fountain and make a wish every morning you passed by, then heading off to go check the lab and see what new deliveries needed to be done. Visitors would come and adopt some eggs, but you went straight to the tall grass. Sometimes it would take hours upon hours until you found an unhatched egg as most pokemon were good at taking care of them, which you were glad for. It would make your job easier, being a trainer who raised pokemon long enough that they could take care of themselves and then releasing them back into the wilds, though often they made friends with other trainers eager to visit the Safari Zone, a small enclosed area of the wilds where trainers went to go bond with wild pokemon searching for homes. Occasionally though a Ladyba would fly by or a Rattata would scurry across the roads, which was nice as Emera was very friendly to the wildlife unlike the bigger, more smog filled cities where many poison types would cluster together, happy to eat the trash but sometimes doing more harm than good.
The nicest part of Emera was it's historical background. Founded when explorers crossed the sea and found many treasures such as gold nuggets and emeralds which the town became named for, eventually became a community with aspirations to preserve the land as best they could. That meant many rare pokemon came to visit as well. Celebe was the trickster of the forest, often snagging berries from random 'trespassers' that came into its territory. The combee were kind though, often offering honey in their own way of apologizing for their friend's behavior. They never did mind the locals who'd stray off of Route 53 as long as they were respectful to their surroundings and not causing any trouble. Most of the time it was only for Moo Moo Milk deliveries as the ranch was the local source for one of the most sought after treats in Emera. You enjoyed Lava Cookies made with the local produce down at the Los Seashellos Restaurant. They had some other delicious dishes, but the lava cookie was an old favorite. The "Lava" inside was creamy and chocolaty, often hot fudge that you could never get enough of. It always brightened your day and you never forgot to tip the waiter generously.
Then there was Bill. You sometimes went down to visit him but all he ever did was nag you to buy more storage room for your pokemon or stop taking in so many, always claiming that you filled up your boxes too fast but secretly you knew he enjoyed hanging out with them while he let people pet them and feed them, he knew it was good for his business too. He even got you a caterpie plushie as gratitude even though he claimed it was just something he had laying around and didn't want anymore, but he forgot to remove the price tag so you just laughed an promised to visit again.
After visiting him you'd go back to the lab, sure Professor Rowan was intimidating at first but you realized he was pretty awkward and kind. You even caught him scattering cool little lab-exclusive ditto plushies for the children who were too young to have a pokemon yet, but sometimes visitors would find one and take it home, though Professor didn't mind, he always had more anyways. Soon the sun would set and you'd say your goodbyes, grabbing your bike while taking a short stop to admire the Illumise's flashing lights from a little past the Daycare before going back home to call it a night.
