So I'm currently hunting a mareep. I'm currently only getting eggs in the daycare, but I'm curious. If I were to use the tall grass to find more mareep eggs would those eggs break my chain, even though they're still the same species?

No matter where you get the eggs from, if they're the same species they'll count for your chain (:

I see, thank you! So is there any reason to stay completely shunting in the daycare or should I totally go look for mareep eggs in the tall grass

There's no reason to stick only to the daycare ^^ Well, unless you have a bunch of egg storages and want to utilize the tall grass for hunting for eggs for another hunt? :)
