Throw Away My Fake Name
Forum-Index → Fanmades → Fanfictions → Throw Away My Fake Name”Put him down!”
“Really? Hmm.. No, that’s no fun. Say, what’s this boy worth to you?”
“I’ll tell you anything! Just put him down!”
“Oh, anything? We’ve got a deal, girl. So tell me, sweetie; What’s your real name?”
Acier // Riu - Lucario’s Nickname
Acciaio - Lucario’s Nickname
Karou - Whimsicott’s Nickname
Sam - Samurott’s Nickname
Pom - Ambipom’s Nickname
Simon - Sableye’s Nickname
In hindsight, he definitely should have noticed the man.
Sitting in a café in Lumiose City, Mel was excitedly rattling off her script in the new movie she’d been cast in. She was playing a major role, much to Connor’s delight.
It had been a few months since they’d returned from Hoenn. Riu had finally grown to accept the fact that he couldn’t hide behind a fake name anymore, and had finally requested to be referred to by his real name, Acier. So had Mel (though she’d come to like her new identity more than she would ever admit to anyone other than Connor).
Speaking of Acier, the Lucario has grown surprisingly fond of Acciaio, despite their original discomfort being around each other. In Kalos, they’d been such good friends. But after Acciaio evolved, it went downhill apparently. They’d recovered their friendship somehow, though, and were practically inseparable.
“And then I’m supposed to give him a hug and— Hey, are you even listening?” Mel pouted, reaching out to wave her hand in front of Connor’s face. Her hair was back to its usual fluffy disaster pulled up in twin pigtails, blue eyes almost glowing in a playful sort of way.
“What? Oh, sorry,” Connor grinned and shook himself, tearing his eyes away from the two Lucarios to look at the brunette in front of him.
Mel rolled her eyes fondly, reaching over to punch his shoulder affectionately. “Of course you weren’t,” She stood and stretched, cracking her elbows as she did so. “C’mon, I’ll show you the set!” She grinned, grabbing his hand and hauling him out of the café. Acier, Acciaio, Pom and Simon trailed after them, eyes bright with curiosity.
”’Car—“ Acier complained, quickening his pace to fall into step beside Mel. ”Lucar!”
Acciaio’s voice was clearly higher than Acier’s, much to Connor’s amusement. ”Lucar!” She grinned, knocking the back of her friends head with her paw.
”Saaaa..” Simon whined, crawling up Connor’s leg to tuck himself into the boys backpack.
“How much further?” Connor asked curiously, allowing Mel to pull him down the bustling streets. He knew he’d be completely lost without her.
Mel flashed him a grin. “Not much longer, relax.” She laughed, continuing to hurry down the sidewalk.
They ended up making several stops along the way, thanks to Acciaio becoming interested in something else (leaving it to Acier to pry her away from whatever it happened to be).
“Here!” Mel grinned, pushing the door open with a loud “hello!”.
She was immediately greeted by several other actors, and even a few of the tech people.
“What’s cookin’, Moliére?” One of the actors offered her a fist-bump, to which she indulged him.
“Nothing, I’m gonna give my brother a tour.” Was the brunette’s confidant response, having released Connor’s wrist several minutes prior. “That okay with you, oh Lord of the Undead?”
The boy laughed and slapped her shoulder, eyes gleaming with something along the lines of pride. “Have fun.” He called as he vanished down the hallway, waving over his shoulder as he did so.
Mel shook her head fondly, blue eyes glowing with unspoken amusement. “That’s Tyler. He’s doing all of th—“ And she dove right back into talking about the script again.
”’Lucar.” Acier whined, poking Mel’s shoulder, nodding in the direction of one of the other actors’ Garchomp, who was staring menacingly at Acciaio and Pom. Acier returned the stare with a bolt of furious rage, pushing Acciaio and Pom out of the room.
“Oh, okay?” Mel sighed and shook her head. “He’s convinced the Garchomp has a crush on Acciaio, ‘cause he tried to hug her a few days ago.” She snorted, reaching for her keys to unlock her door, stepping inside.
It was nothing fancy, it was literally just a dressing room. But Mel had definitely personalized it, there were pictures and sweatshirts and even a stack of books tucked in the corner.
Connor raised his eyebrows with a smirk. “Personalized it, huh?” He snickered, reaching for a picture. His face fell as he looked at it.
It was definitely an older picture, and Mel looked young in it. Around eleven or twelve, even.
It was Alola.
It was a group photo.
There was Tiger with Cyndaquil on his shoulder, Mira with Toka wrapped around her (“Aww, look at her! A little Dragonair!”), Victor standing confidently with Blaze and Volt (“Wait.. Mel, what’s that behind him? .. Is that Solgaleo?” “.. We don’t talk about him.”), and the boy Connor recognized and Ivan from the stories, holding.. up.. holding up a taser with a smile. Mel was there too, of course, waving at the camera with Acier beside her.
Connor smiled and set it back down on the table, eyes traveling around the room as he wandered over to the stack of books and lifted one curiously, flipping it open to the first page.
There was a sudden, sharp knock against the door and Mel sighed, standing and opening the door.
“Excuse me? Miss Moliére? Is there a boy named ‘Connor’ in there with you?”
“Uh..” Mel turned to glance at Connor, raising her eyebrows before turning back to the man in her doorway. “Yeah? Why?”
“His cousin is here to pick him up.” The man reported before bowing his head and marching away.
”Ri?” Acciaio asked curiously, approaching the doorway with the other three Pokémon. ”Lu lucar?”
Acier was just frowning, while Pom scrambled to join Connor with Simon on her heels.
Connor lifted Simon and pat Pom before turning to face Mel, white as a sheet. “I.. I don’t have any cousins.” He whispered green eyes dulling with confusion and worry.
Mel nodded in agreement, dropping her backpack onto her chair before swinging the door open wider. “Might as well go check it out.” She mused with a shrug, holding the door open. The Pokémon dashed out with Connor following behind them quietly.
There was nobody in the lobby.
Just that stupid Garchomp from before.
It moved like lightning, lashing out to slam its claws into the back of Acier’s head, almost immediately knocking the Lucario out. The process was repeated for both Acciaio and Pom, and there was a dull thud and Connor keeled over, hitting the ground with a soft thud.

“Connor?!”
His eyes blinked open slowly. There was a dull, throbbing pain in the back of his head, though he brushed it off to turn towards the voice.
“Oh thank god.”
That was definitely Mel. Nobody else could sound that furious and relieved at the same time.
“Wha—?” Connor trailed off, voice scratchy as he lifted one hand to his throat to rub it.
“Don’t look down.” Was the brunette’s response. Her voice cracked.
Connor looked down and nearly started crying.
Because, of course, what better way to get information out of someone than dangling them off a building in a cage?
What a life. Connor had always wanted to dangle over the edge of a building in a cage.
“I told you not to look!”
“Where’s Pom? And Simon?”
Mel winced. She was in her own cell, though it wasn’t dangling precariously over the edge of a building, with a 200 foot drop beneath it.
“Not here. Acier and Acciaio aren’t here either. I don’t know..” She trailed off, shaking her head in frustration.
The door screeched open and any words on Connor’s tongue died off as he stared.
That was Sam crossing the through the door, approaching his cage. The door to the cell clanked open and he reached in to grasp Connor’s sweatshirt, dragging him out of the cage.
Only to hold him by the hood of his sweatshirt over the edge of the building.
Oh, no thank you.
“So, Mel,” Sam was grinning, green eyes bright with the fury of a thousand suns. “Want to talk now?”
“Put him down!” Mel shot back immediately, slamming her hands against the bars on her cell.
“Really? What’s this boy worth to you, huh?”
“I’ll tell you anything!”
“Anything, hm? Alright,” Sam’s grin didn’t falter, though he released one hand from Connor’s hood, only holding it with his left hand. The boy shrieked. “What’s your real name, huh?”
She froze up.
Sam’s grin widened.
“That’s.. That’s not..—“
“Oh, too bad. Looks like I’ll just have to—“
“Alright, alRIGHT!” Mel shrieked, kicking the bars again. Sam paused. “Aubrey!”
“Last name, sweetie. Need that too, huh?”
“Put him down! Leave him out of this!”
“Oh? Leave him alone? Fine then. What about the Lucario?”
”Don’t you touch him!”
“Last name.”
“Go to hell!”
Sam scoffed and waved with his free hand. “Bring him out.”
It took five people to drag Acier out of the building, and all five to dangle him over the edge of the building as well.
“Put them down!” Mel railed, slamming her palms against the bars, shaking the whole cell violently.
“Last chance, sweetie. Last. Name.” His grip on Connor’s hood weakened thanks to the smaller boy’s kicking and screaming.
“Vitale! Aubrey Vitale!” Mel screamed back, throwing her hands above her head.
“Thank you. Drop them.”
Both Connor and Mel screamed.
Acier reacted immediately, drawing himself up to drive the spike on the back of his right paw into one of the grunts’ arms. The man released him with a howl and collapsed and the Lucario kicked back, doing some sort of back-flip midair to drag two of the grunts off the edge with him.
And Sam released his hold on Connor’s hood.
Mel screamed.
Something caught his outstretched hand. Pom. The Ambipom chattered in distress, attempting to pull Connor back up with her tails. He met her gaze, his own eyes blurred with tears.
Simon was there too, driving his claws into the lock on Mel’s cell. The lock gave way and the brunette kicked the door open, scooping Simon up in her arms to rush to join Pom.
Acciaio was there too, dodging gracefully around attacks from Sam’s Mienshao and the grunts’ Pyroar and Malamar.
Even Acier had dragged himself back up the stairs in the building after falling off the roof, having caught onto ledge on the side of the building and pulled himself back in through a window.
“Bone rush!” Mel called back, depositing Simon onto the ground to latch on to Pom’s outstretched paws, using her own weight to her advantage.
Both Lucarios complied, launching forward with their respective colors. Acier, red and Acciaio, yellow.
Grasping Pom’s paws Mel leaned back, toppling backward and dragging Pom and Connor with her, much to her delight. Simon let out a frantic coo, sprinting forward to hug Connor.
Mel crawled forward to grasp his hands tightly in her own. “You okay?”
He nodded shakily, gathering Simon in his arms as he stood. Mel stood as well, and both watched as the grunts fled the scene. Acciaio barked after them.
On the other hand, Acier and the Mienshao were locked in combat, dancing around the moves thrown around. It look a bit, but the Mienshao was able to snatch the upper hand and tripped Acier, sending him sprawling.
Sam turned tail and fled, the Mienshao trailing after him as Acier pushed himself back up, rubbing his muzzle.
“What..?” Connor whispered, turning to look at Mel, who simply shook her head helplessly.
So maybe her secret wasn’t a secret anymore.
Acier and Acciaio both padded to join them, Acciaio tapping her arm nervously and Acier rubbing his muzzle. Pom moved to join them, linking her tails together anxiously while Simon remained quiet in Connor’s arms. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting..
“It’s okay,” Mel sighed finally, rubbing her eyes. “Lets just go home.”
Connor smiled weakly, offering her a hug. She accepted before stepping back slightly and dropping her arm around his shoulders. “Yeah. Home. Let’s go home.”
Pom and Acier shared a small smile.

“.. Are you going to explain?” Connor asked, resting his head against the couch cushions. “Or is this a guessing game now?”
Mel shook her head tiredly. “I honestly don’t know. Ive never mentioned that to anyone, how come he knew about it?”
Connor shrugged. “Lucky guess.” He offered, rubbing his forehead.
“Maybe.”
The four Pokémon were seated around the coffee table, playing some weird version of go fish amongst themselves while the two trainers spoke in hushed voices.
Mel fell silent, turning to watch the Pokémon. Connor mimicked her.
It was a comfortable silence.
————
The next day, Mel was called back in to work. More recording to do for the day, she’d said with a faint smile. She’d taken Acier and Acciaio with her, of course, waving over her shoulder as she’d left.
Connor had waved back and hadn’t protested.
He had his own business to attend to.
————
Standing in front of Team Flare’s café, Connor took a deep breath and pushed the door open, crossing the threshold nervously.
It was silent. He let out the breath he’d been holding, closing the door behind it. It let out a metallic screeching noise as it shut. He flinched and shied back against the wall. Simon growled.
Nodding to himself, Connor pushed himself off the wall and passed toward the opposite wall, brushing his hand across it to rid the wall of dust, latching his fingers onto the doorknob, pulling the secret door open. It opened with a screeching noise and he winced again, slipping through the door.
The flashlight on his dex brightened the dim hallway immensely, much to his relief.
Another door. But this one was wide open. He crept through it, turning the flashlight around the room.
It fell on a lone person.
Connor gripped the dex tightly. “Sam.”
“Connor.”
It was silent for several heartbeats.
Sam turned, eyeing the smaller boy. “You wanted to talk?”
“That was your Garchomp.”
“Correct. That was my Garchomp.”
“So you left it there.”
Sam rolled his eyes. “Do you have a point? If not, I’d like to get back to my work now.”
Connor did have a point. “You told them I was your cousin.”
Raising his eyebrows, Sam nodded silently.
“Why? We’re not cousins.”
“Ah, that, dear child, is where you’re sorely mistaken.”
Connor froze.
“Shocked? Me too. I never thought I could ever be related to such a nuisance,” Sam was grinning, stalking around Connor. His footsteps echoed around the eerily silent base. “But, you’re not that much of a nuisance are you? Look at this,” Quick as lightning, the redhead snatched Connor’s backpack and ripped it away from him, reaching into it to hold up the lustrous orb. “Look at this! My cousin, chosen by the great Palkia!”
“Give it back!” Connor cried, reaching desperately for the orb. Sam simply held it above his head, out of reach for the smaller boy. “It’s not yours!”
“This is mine!” Sam spat as the orb began to glow. “This is my birthright! Who are you to come along and take it from me?!”
“Give it back!”
The orb’s glow was darkening, turning gray.
“Give it back!”
There was a bright flash and Connor screamed, throwing his hands up to protect his eyes.
Sam simply began to cackle.

TRIGGER WARNING FOR MAJOR CHARACTER DEATH
Yes. You read that correctly. Major Character Death.
It’s a temporary major character death.
This part of the story is NOT skip-able. It needs to be read to fully understand what happens in the next part.

Karou - Whimsicott’s Nickname
Sam - Samurott’s Nickname
Pom - Ambipom’s Nickname
Simon - Sableye’s Nickname
It had taken three days for the lustrous orb to be fully corrupted. And in those three days, Sam had managed to throw Connor into a cell, not even caring that Simon was chewing through the bars of the cell.
The redhead was so entirely focused on his newest summon item, that Connor had nearly managed to escape.
Mel hasn’t shown up either.
With a dull clank, Sam unlocked the cell door and dragged Connor out of it, throwing him onto the floor with a thud. “I’m gonna have to try something out, kiddo. Don’t move.” And he stomped off again, vanishing around the corner.
Pom and Simon crawled out after him, chirping in distress. Connor gathered both of them into his arms.
“Welcome back, Palkia! Welcome back!”
Connor couldn’t do anything but scream and cower back, pressing himself back against the wall. Simon ducked back into his backpack, the same backpack Sam had thrown back at them.
A huge portal opened up above them and Palkia came crashing through it. But his normal pink-ish hue was shadowy purple, his eyes were blood red.
And he didn’t recognize Connor either.
With a bloodcurdling shriek, the legend lowered himself to the ground with a thud next to Sam.
The redhead simply lifted his hand and pointed to Connor and whispered “kill him”.
“Palkia!” Connor screamed, ducking underneath an aura sphere that had been thrown in his direction. “Listen to me! Palkia!”
No response from the furious legend. He simply threw another attack.
It couldn’t get any worse. It just couldn’t.
And them Sam reached into his own bag, pulling out the adamant orb.
And everything Connor had ever known came crashing down as another portal opened up and Dialga slammed out of it, the same colors as Palkia.
And neither legend looked happy to see him.
Pom and Simon both leapt forward with synchronized growls, landing in front of their trainer defensively.
“What Are you waiting for? Get rid of them!” Sam snarled, throwing his own poke balls into the air. Mienshao, Garchomp and Pyroar each appeared from their respective pokeballs. Pom and Simon refused to move.
Both shadowy legends began to power up their respective moves (“Spacial rend and Roar of time!”), and they released the moves in a startlingly synchronized manner with a burst of color as they linked together. Connor threw up his hands to cover his head, and Pom and Simon drew themselves together defensively.
And then a third wormhole opened up in front of him, and Giratina shot out of it.
The legendary looked normal, much to Connor’s relief. Red has always been relatively friendly toward him.
Even now, the dragon-ghost type slammed his way forward, taking the brunt of the moves in stride, brushing it off to return it with his own move. Shadow force. Of course it was shadow force.
Sam screamed angrily, holding up both hands. His Pokémon readied themselves and them leapt forward.
And Acier, Acciaio and Karou leapt to meet them.
Relief slammed him like a ton of bricks as he turned to spot Mel, sprinting into the base with a familiar glint in her eyes. “Mel!”
“Connor!” Before he knew what was happening, the brunette had thrown herself onto him with a hug. “Christ! I got a call from Alyssa and then you didn’t come home for thREE DAYS so I tried to track you down and—“
“No!” Sam was screaming, storming through the fighting. “You can’t leave! I just got him here, damnit! He’s my cousin, stay away from him!”
“Stay away from him? Stay away from us!” Mel shot back, pulling herself away from Connor to pick up a brick that had fallen during the legends’ fighting spree. “This weather man is predicting a one-hundred percent chance of a *sharpedo*storm, and it’s coming right for yah!” She shrieked, leaping forward with the brick.
And all hell broke loose again.
——————
Connor had kept a watchful eye on the Pokémon the entire time.
They were doing well. Pom had teamed up with Karou to take on the Garchomp, while Simon and Acciaio seemed content to fight the Pyroar.
Acier, on the other hand, wasn’t fairing as well as the other four. He’d been thrown into a fight with the Mienshao, and despite the fact that his speed was one of his highest stats, the Mienshao was just too strong, too fast. He couldn’t touch it.
It didn’t help that Mel had been dragged into a fight of sorts with Sam. And she was losing by quite a bit.
On top of that, Red was struggling too. The youngest of the creation trio was faltering between moves, taking the brunt of most of the attacks Dialga and Palkia sent his way.
So, they were losing.
Lacking defensive and offensive skills, Connor had crept to the back of the room to watch on with wide eyes.
He had to help.
But he didn’t know how.
So he could only watch on in horror as the Mienshao slammed Acier against the wall by his throat, as Sam threw Mel to the ground with a strong kick, as Red hit the ground with a echoing ‘thud’, as Acciaio and Karou slid down and didn’t get up, as Pom and Simon struggled..
Pom and Simon..
Pom and Simon.
He was moving before he even realized it.
Throwing all of his weight into protecting his partners, the brunette slammed into Pom, knocking her into Simon and effectively dodging a rogue flamethrower from the Pyroar.
Too late.
The Garchomp towered over him, red eyes menacing. Connor sank to his knees, still clutching Pom and Simon close. The dragon type simply lifted him and threw him into Red, knocking the breath out of the trainer as he sank to the ground, pressed against the renegade Pokémon. Red’s eyes cracked open staring up at his siblings, gaze full of loathing.
Sam deposited Mel on the ground beside Connor (she was kicking and screaming and struggling), while the Mienshao took it upon herself to slam Acier on the ground and kick him towards them, while Acciaio and Karou suffered the same fate.
Acciaio and Karou were both moving, both pushing themselves up, both scowling. Acier— Riu— wasn’t doing either.
“Get rid of them.”
There was no hesitation, no pity in Sam’s voice as he stepped back, out of range of any attacks.
Dialga and Palkia both accepted the order, the crystals on them both beginning to glow harshly.
Red growled, shifting slightly in a last ditch effort to float up.
It didn’t work.
Connor could feel the sharp intake of breath from Pom, the growl from Simon, the hissing from Red, the fury from Mel, the agony from Acier, the frustration from Acciaio, the terror from Karou.
He couldn’t breathe.
Tears pricked in the corners of his eyes as he stared up at the two legendary Pokémon.
Neither legend hesitated in blasting off their attacks.
And Acier didn’t hesitate before throwing himself forward.
There was red, a red glow, a red splatter, a scream, a sickening thud, and them silence.
Mel screamed again.
Everything blurred.

Acciaio - Lucario’s Nickname (SHINY)
Karou - Whimsicott’s Nickname
Sam - Samurott’s Nickname
Pom - Ambipom’s Nickname
Simon - Sableye’s Nickname
Everything was blurry.
Mel was on her knees, crouched over something blue. There was red on her hands, on her face, in her hair. There was red on the floor.
Red had successfully begun to float again. The renegade Pokémon floated above the scene, dark wings flapping protectively around them. Sam and the other two legends were no where to be seen.
“Connor! CONNOR!” Mel screamed, whipping her head around. The boy scrambled over to her side. “Put your hands here, I need to..” Her voice cracked at the end as tears slid from her blue eyes.
He didn’t wait for instructions; His hands turned red as he placed them strongly over one of the several deep gashes on Acier’s stomach.
“No, nonono—“ Mel was swearing profusely, reaching up with one hand to feel for a heartbeat.
Connor’s hand slipped down to the Lucario’s paw (it was so red), feeling desperately.
There was nothing.
No pulse.
Connor could feel his own heart stopping in his chest.
No, no no nonono—
Mel let out a sob.
——————
It was dead quiet in the Pokémon center. Even Acciaio and Pom were subdued and quiet, sitting on the floor in front of the two trainers.
As suspected, Acier had taken the brunt of the attacks back in the abandoned base. Not just from the final moves either; From everything, according to Nurse Joy. There were burns from the Pyroar, scratches from the Garchomp, bruises from the Mienshao, and of course, gashes and broken bones from the final attack from Dialga and Palkia.
Not a good day for him.
He was lucky to be alive.
Mel was curled up inside her sweatshirt, rocking back and forth on the ground, head covered by the hood. She’d taken all of the blame for everything.
“You should call Mira.” Connor said quietly, casting a hesitant look in the girl’s direction.
Mel didn’t pull her head out of her sweatshirt. “Why?” Her voice was dull, scratchy.
“Because Aite is there.”
A familiar stab of agony spread through Connor. Aite. He honestly didn’t want to know how the Zoroark would react.
Maybe it would be best not to tell.
Acciaio was the one who made the final decision (much to everyone’s shock). She’d pried the dex out of Mel’s shaking hands and tossed it aside. It clattered on the floor and slid into a wall. Nobody moved to pick it up.
Nurse Joy spared everybody from making any more decisions by approaching them with an awfully grim look on her face. “You came in with the Lucario, right?”
“Yeah, that was us.” Connor’s eyes shot up to meet the Nurse’s eyes. “Is he okay?”
“He wasn’t breathing when you brought him in.”
Mel groaned and shook her head.
“He’s breathing now. He’s.. He’s as stable as he’s going to be.”
“What do you mean?” Connor whispered, eyes falling to stare at the Pokédex that had been thrown across the building.
Nurse Joy shook her head. “We’ve done the best we can. It’s up to him when he wakes up. If he wakes up at all.”
“So.. He’s in a coma,” Mel’s response was dull, was exhausted. Connor’s heart skipped a beat.
Several beats, actually.
“.. Correct. We’re doing everything we can, but it’s difficult. He lost a lot of blood. And if he wakes up, he might not be the same.”
“I know, I was in a coma once. I know.” Mel spat, standing and storming out of the Pokémon center. The door slammed shut behind her.
Red escaped, Connor reminded himself bleakly. He’s okay. Pom is okay. Simon’s okay. Acciaio and Karou are okay. I’m okay. Mel is okay.
But the fact that Aicer— No, the fact that Riu was missing from the equation made Connor want to throw up.
It may have been because he was covered in red, but hey, that was probably just a part of the problem.
Connor lifted one hand and watched the red gather at his fingertips, dripping onto his pants. He knew there was still red smeared across his face, sticking in his hair.. But he didn’t have the energy to wash it off.
And it was Acier’s. He felt sick just thinking about it.
Of course, Mel had been absolutely coated in red. It looked like she’d gone swimming in it.
He wiped his hands on his pants and reached for the dex on the floor.
Hey, Mira,
It’s Connor. Using Mel’s Pokédex, I know. We’ve had an accident. It’s not pretty. We don’t know if Riu’s going to pull through. The way things are looking, he’s not. Just for Aite’s knowledge. Gotta keep him in the loop, I guess.
— Connor
He hesitated.
Maybe he shouldn’t click send.
So he didn’t. He clicked delete instead.
This wasn’t the Tonak’s problem. This was the Vitale’s problem.
And they would have to handle themselves.

okay!! Here we go!!
The main focus of this part is going to be on Acier’s partial recovery
Because once again,
I live for torturing my characters
And it’s super short because I’m out of ideas and I want to get this over with so I can move on with my sad pathetic life.
Seriously it’s like two paragraphs okay. It’s pointless.

Colder than the darkest sea.
Everything was cold.
Everything was silent.
He turned his head slightly, stumbling through the fog. Waves splashed around his paws but it didn’t deter him, continuing to pad through the water without any form of hesitation.
He could hear talking. Voices, soft and loud combined. He could feel emotions, angry and scared alike. Loud voices filled with childhood wonder. Terror tearing through one’s heart as the walls closed in around them. Gentle tones and soft touches to bring them back from the edge of panic. Fear being buried beneath a facade, a decade old facade. Disguises and identities flash by.
Red. He was red.
That was the color of excitement. Of love, passion, and energy. Of strength.
He could wait.
Mel.
Mel was pink.
She was sincerity. Pink was sophistication and compassion. It was sweet and playful.
Connor.
He was green. He was growth. It was of healing and freshness. Of quality and nature.
He could hold out for them.
He was losing this fight. This never ending war. He was destined to fail, over and over again.
Red eyes flashed open and slid closed again.
Acier didn’t move.
—————
Pom slammed her paws against the pillow with a wail.
There were some injuries that would never ever heal.
Acier being thrown into a coma was something that Pom would never get over.
It had all happened so fast.
It wasn’t that long ago that Mel had kicked open Connor’s bedroom door, announcing to them that she was an aromatic asexual who didn’t know how to break that to Tiger.
It wasn’t that long ago that they’d been gathered around a table, celebrating Connor’s 13th birthday.
And Acier was swooning over a certain Zoroark, and Simon announced that he only liked rocks, that out of the main group (consisting of Mel, Connor, Acier, Acciaio, Pom and Simon), Acciaio and Pom were the only ones who liked girls, and Connor had painted his hair white to mock Mel for a few days, and Mel has retaliated by pouring mud into his shampoo bottle, and—
Pom really wanted to cry.
But she didn’t know how.

Acier had literally been a father to her. Nobody else could compare in the Mienfoo’s short life.
Nobody wanted to be the one to tell her.
In the end, Acciaio was chosen to do it.
The only sound they heard was a heartbreaking scream. Acciaio had stumbled back out, clutching an armful of Elely.
—————
Elely wasn’t the only one suffering. Mel hadn’t moved in several days. She’d only spoken once, and that was to, once again, request to be called “Aubrey” again.
Connor agreed without question.
—————
Mel— Brie had started leaving earlier. She’d vanish for hours at a time and come back exhausted.
“Where’ve you been?” Connor complained, watching her drag herself back into the house.
“Showcases.”
“Are you serious? Without Acier?” That was surprising, to be honest.
Okay, to be fair, Acier had never been a dancing type. Submissive, yes, but not a dancer, Connor reflected. But Brie liked to have Acier there as support. Sometimes, she wouldn’t go up if he wasn’t there.
Her main partners for showcases or contest spectaculars were Karou and Lexi, though sometimes she switched it up and replaced them with Kyubii and Marron, or even Fée.
“Obviously,” The brunette’s response was clipped, exhausted. “I’m going upstairs. Call me if you need anything.”
Connor watched her go and felt his very soul crack.
—————
”Lucar!”
“‘Bipom!”
“Saaaaa?”
Three cries. Not four. That was changing, though.
It shattered when the phone rang.
Brie was closer. She reached for it and clicked the answer button, holding it up to her ear. “Hello?”
Silence.
Then Brie hung up, placed the phone in its holder, leapt to her feet and let out an excited whoop.
“What?! What happened?”
“He’s awake!”
Connor shrieked, dropping the waffle he’d been ripping apart. Acciaio perked up, and Simon and Pom exchanged smiles. Even Elely perked up a bit.
Brie was out the door before Connor even voiced another word.
—————
“He was lucky,” the doctors said. “He’s a fighter,” they’d said.
Damn right.
No memory loss, no lasting injuries, nothing. He was okay.
Brie had spent a solid ten minutes sobbing and clutching Acier in a tight hug. Elely and Acciaio soon joined in, and Connor, Pom and Simon soon followed their example.
Stupid familial bonds. Connor loved his ragtag family.
—————
Akira— Aki— was ecstatic to see Acier up again. The Gallade had been at Sycamore’s lab with a Gardevoir last time Connor had checked.
Elely still hasn’t let go of Acier’s paw. And honestly? Acier didn’t look willing to let go of Elely’s paw either.
They placed bets on how many bones Aki would crush when he gave Acier a hug.
Surprisingly, no bones were broken, though Acier looked a little winded afterwards.
Brie was too busy laughing to make a joke at his expense.
They couldn’t keep Aki from rejoining Brie’s party. But, to be fair, they didn’t really fight it that much. The Gallade had always been rather attached to Acier.
It was just the old gang back together again.
