And if you can keep them, how do you do it? Do you need room in your party? Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it.

Your caught pokemon are in the little yellow-white box, which you can see under the rod. You can adopt 10 of them per day and you don't need room in your party, but at least in your storage box.
