"How long until it hatches?" A voice spoke as a scientist looked at an egg. It was the first one to be found since the organization's experiments failed to hatch correctly, most Pokémon that hatched from the eggs either were to weak to survive, or were off colored. Either being partial shinies, or full normal pokemon. This organization studied and tested Pokémon to help them get a one hundred percent chance of hatching a shiny. The scientist looked over to his assistant, and shrugged uncertainly. He scribbled something on a clipboard before turning back to the examination table, and brought the heating lamp closer to the egg.  The scientist then walked across the lab, and sat down in a small office chair toward the back of the dimly lit office. The cold room always carried the echoes of the other experiments going on. The scientist shook his head before replying to his assistant.

"Sorry" the scientist grumbled  "I'm not sure when" he finished in a low tone finally breaking the pressing silence in the room. He looked toward the door of the room as the loud screech of a Charizard from one of the other experiments. There was the sound of a slight struggle then everything was silent. "I just hope we are successful this time..." he sighed quietly. "We've lost to many pokemon with this experiment..." he growled lowly. Though he worked as a scientist for Team Rocket he deeply cared for pokemon. He shook his head as he tried to forget the sound of the Charizard, and went back to his work.

"Sir..." His assistant began, but was stopped midsentence as the scientist got to his feet. He looked at the assistant coldly. "I understand you're concerned for the egg...I'm sure it'll survive this time" she said kindly.

"If it doesn't survive then we need to stop playing Arceus...Giovanni needs to understand that even if shiny Pokémon are sought out by trainers from all over the world." He began crossly, and shook his head. He went back to the egg, and sighed lowly. "The odds of hatching a shiny are there for a reason. A shiny Pokémon is suppose to be treasured just like those we catch. A shiny might be rare, but they shouldn't be sold as prizes in the game corner." The scientist sighed, and shook his head in disapproval. "It's already bad enough that we are selling Dratini, and Porygon to trainers!" He said angrily, and slammed his fist on the table. He then gasped in shock, and grabbed the egg before it rolled, unbalanced, off the table.

"Sir you need to be more careful" the assistant said in shock, and went over to examine the egg. There was a small crack in it, but it was fine. "I think it's alright. Now just. place it ba-" she said before she was cut off. All of a sudden the egg began to move, and glow. It lit up the dim room causing the two to close their eyes tight. Then the light died down, and a small Poliwag hatched from the egg. It sat in the scientist's arms, and was a shiny, except the tail was slightly off colored. Instead of it's normal white color it was a brilliant pinkish color.

"Arceus..." the scientist whispered, and looked at the tail. "Giovanni will just order us to kill the poor creature if it's even slightly off" he said bitterly. The newly hatched pokemon looked around cheerfully as the scientist spoke. He climbed out of the scientist's arms, and began to explore the small lab.

"Just tell him it was another failure, and you released it. I'm sure Giovanni will understand" the assistant said quietly, and looked at the cheerful Pokémon with a slight amused tone. The scientist nodded uncertainly, and looked over. "Though what will you do with him?" she added in a quiet whisper.

Good question what will I do with him...certainly I can't let Giovanni see him, and I don't want him to die. He's the first off color that hasn't shown any signs of being weak, or unstable. The scientist thought to himself, and closed his eyes. He tried to think of something to do with the pokemon. Find some way to keep it safe from harm. Then it hit him, like a Snorlax using body slam. "I could capture it, and bring it here for tests. The boss won't question me if it's my pokemon, and if he asks about the strange tail..." he trailed off a bit, and looked around. He grabbed a lavender colored scarf off the table, and tied it around the pokemon's tail.   "There" he said softly, and nodded as Poliwag began to wag its tail in amusement. "I'll keep this scarf on the tail, and if Giovanni asks...then I'll tell him it was my daughter's idea" he said.

Unconvinced this would work or not, the assistant just nodded. "Alright" she mumbled lowly. "Just don't forget about the experiments though...like it or not we need to get a shiny pokemon, and no weak off colors" she sighed lowly, and shook her head.

The scientist just nodded, and grabbed a pokeball from his pocket.  "Alright...I won't forget about the experiments, and soon we will have a Pokémon that will hatch shiny. Then all trainers can get whichever shiny they want" he said half annoyed by the whole thing. He then tried to catch the Poliwag. The pokeball shook once, then it shook again, and finally after a moment it clicked. The scientist nodded in satisfaction, and wrote down in his notes once more.

'Day 100: Egg hatched creating a discolored Poliwag. Subject doesn't show signs of weakness like the others, but it isn't a complete success. Subject's name will be codename Saffron for his discolored tail. More information will be written as subject gets older.'
