Frostpool looked at Rainrock with a desperate expression, thinking that it would've just been a joke. "I will leave when I see you have eaten at least one," Rainrock meowed calmly. "And if it doesn't kill you, I will be impressed." Frostpool let out a quiet growl, but flicked his tail calmly. He laid down and lapped up the first berry. The taste was absolutely horrible, but this is what he was to do.
Frostpool didn't know what Rainrock was capable of, as his vision began to spot with black. He saw Rainrock leaving. The Medicine Cat coughed wildly, and his vision was beginning to fade. He saw cats - StarClan cats. "It wasn't your time," one said sadly. Frostpool felt sudden strength, and he looked at his paws.
I'm dead! he thought in a panic. That traitor!
jaggedtooth
Rainrock plopped down next to the Elder. Jaggedtooth knew who it was by scent, but when he smelled something he didn't ever expect, his fur began to fluff up. "Hi, Jaggedtooth," Rainrock meowed happily. Something was off. Rainrock was just so serious, so why was he happy all of a sudden? The tom couldn't see - he was blind after all.
Whatever Rainrock did, it'd have to wait.
Icepaw was walking through the forest, and looking for moss. She stopped, and pricked her ears as she heard Wolffrost, and Grayblaze nearby. Looking up from her search, she decided to see if she could do something to help. "Hey" she mewled softly "is there anything I can do?" she asked softly, and curled her tail over her paws.
[alt. title, the patrol gets home]
Lunarstar led the patrol back into camp, ears perked up. "Should I call a Clan meeting or wait until Yellowsting's patrol gets back?" she meowed to her patrol. Skyfall shrugged, his head low. Nighttail tilted her head in confusion.
"Yellowsting? Do you think he'll be happy to see me, Lunarstar? I know he must've taken it hard when the whole Clan thought I was dead..." Nighttail's voice trailed off. "Sweet StarClan, I missed this place." She flicked her tail happily as she saw Rainrock and Jaggedtooth leave the Elders' den. The gray tabby was pressed against his grandfather's side.
"Jaggedtooth!" The dark she-cat dashed over to her father, purring happily.
"Oh, Nighttail! It's been so long.. How have things been?" Jaggedtooth seemed to know something that only Nighttail knew. The she-cat dipped her head, a grin on her face.
"Things have been well, Father."
lunarstar
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather for a Clan meeting!" the Leader called. Skyfall and Rainrock sat near the front of the meeting area, whispering almost silently.
Skyfall was tempted to ask Rainrock if he could figure out what was going on. Lunarstar looked down at her cats, making sure most were there.
"I will wait a little longer before we begin," she meowed loudly. She hoped that the other cats outside of camp would hear, but she wouldn't be sure until they arrived. She knew Icepaw needed a mentor
But would Frostpool be willing to train her? Speaking of Frostpool, where is he?
"Where's Frostpool?" Skyfall called to his mother. Lunarstar looked toward the Medicine Den. "If he's in there, I'll go fetch him." The brown tabby dashed to the Medicine Den, his thick tail brushing the ground.
A scream was heard.
Icepaw padded into camp, and noticed a meeting had been called. She placed the bundle of moss down next to the elders den, and went to sit by Flamepaw, and Tigerpelt. She then froze as she heard the scream come from the medicine cat den. She stepped back as Flamepaw, and Tigerpelt both leapt to their paws with bristling fur.
The tabby tom stood in horror at the sight of Frostpool laying there, foam coming from the side of his mouth. His eyes were glazed over, so he was obviously dead. Skyfall walked to the Medicine Cat's side, whimpering. "Why you of all cats? Why didn't you tell us?" Rainrock dashed in, with Nighttail right behind.
"Frostpool," the former Medicine Cat whispered. She crouched down next to her former Apprentice, letting out a sad wail. "You didn't deserve this..." Nighttail stood back up and stared coldly at seemingly nothing.
"Night...tail, are you okay?" Skyfall asked, padding over to his aunt.
"I think we should at least take his body out where everyone can see. It's what he would've wanted."
"He would've wanted to not be grieved over. He would've liked to have been buried before anyone would grieve too harshly."
She watched her blood kin pull Frostpool out of the Medicine Den. Dead. "This is...unexpected. We shall carry on with the meeting for now, but we will pay our respects. In the meantime, we will need a cat to be our temporary Medicine Cat. We will discuss this after." She looked over to Icepaw.
"I was going to appoint Frostpool to be Icepaw's mentor. I've seen how much time you've spent in the Medicine Den, Icepaw. But since Frostpool is dead, I will say that Nighttail will be your mentor as Medicine Cat until you are ready. I understand she did just out of nowhere return to the Clan, but she was a loyal Medicine Cat."
Nighttail dipped her head to her sister and Leader. "I understand," she meowed. "I will do my best to be a good mentor to Icepaw." The dark she-cat sat tall and calmly, but anyone nearby could most likely tell that by the empty look in her eyes, she looked like she could fall into despair at any moment.
The gray tabby stared on in silence. He knew what he did, and guilt prickled at his pelt. Skyfall nudged him with a shoulder. "You okay?" he meowed quietly. Rainrock dipped his head in false respect for Frostpool. "I know it must be hard." Rainrock nodded at his brother, still trying to hide his guilt and self-hatred for what he did.
But it was my doing. Everyone thinks he did this himself.. I deserve to be exiled. In another part of Rainrock's mind, there was the It was fun, though. As Lunarstar called for the meeting to end, he immediately retreated to outside of camp. He needed something to do to get his mind off of the chaos inside.
"I wish the last thing I said to him wasn't a rude retort" she sighed softly, and ignored her brother's reassuring words. She got to her paws, and looked around camp. "I wish I knew why he did this" she mewed sadly.
