Royal Tunnel: More than Riddle Smart
Forum-Index → Suggestions → Royal Tunnel: More than Riddle SmartThe Royal Tunnel is a long and gloomy tunnel near Emera Town. You will find many forks which will either lead you deeper into the tunnel, or lead you directly into a Pokémon trap. A smart riddler once attached different riddles to each fork - and finding out the correct answer will tell you the right path to continue. So it's time for you to prove your knowledge about 'Pokémon'!
But watch out: You shouldn't take too much time with solving one riddle - wild Pokémon don't like it when strangers stay long in their territory.
Smart Riddler: "Just because you aren't smart with riddles doesn't mean you aren't smart. It does mean however that you may not had an aptitude for riddles. So, how can one use their smarts in different ways?"
Young Woman: "Lets see..."
A Ball of String - "How clever! With this string you can find your way back to the previous tunnel if you made a mistake. That is, if you have time before the wild, angry pokemon come."
(I'm thinking permanent. Maybe allowing you a second chance to try to choose the correct tunnel if you have the time to make a second choice.)
False Rock Shield - "Why, this contraption allows you to hide from wild, angry pokemon in the tunnels! Unfortunately it is a bit fragile so you'll always need to buy new ones. This item allows you stay in the tunnel instead of being ran out, but it only buys you a little more time to figure out the correct answer."
(Not a permanent item. Maybe has X uses before falling apart. Maybe used as like extra lives.)
Silliness aside, I've made this suggestion as I've always had trouble in the royal tunnel and I know for a fact that there is a large majority of other players with the same troubles as well. The items above would not give anyone an unfair advantage as anyone without much knowledge of pokemon in general wont get far either way. The items will however, help give those with difficulties a better chance at actually getting the eggdex entries of the regi's. Of course, the Ball of String I see as being a new Key Item and the False Rock Shield being sold in the Item Shop in the Misc. Items section. I did not post true specifics as that would be for Riako and the staff to hammer out.
Feedback? Please post your thoughts and not just whether you support of not. Have an idea that you think is better? Something to add? Post it please! :)
Giving a little aid for the three Tunnels where you can get the normal Regis, I completely see myself supporting, as it's the only way to get their Egg Dex, but when it comes to the Shiny [Endless Tunnel], I don't really think they should be allowed as it's the ultimate test of your knowledge ^^'
A Ball of String - Would this work once per Tunnel or every question? If it works for every question after entering the Tunnel, this would make it a lot easier that it should be [in my opinion]. A little push in the right direction is fine, but we shouldn't be stringing them along through the Tunnel, giving them the [false] idea that they know a lot about pokémon ^^'
I'm also not quite seeing the difference between the False Rock Shield and the Ball of String; they both give you a second chance of figuring out the answer [and give you a little extra time], but one is permanent and the other isn't. Was there a difference you had in mind or am I simply not seeing it?
So, I'm all for helping users get a chance to complete the Tunnels, but I don't really think this is entirely the way to go. I'll be neutral for now.

Endless Tunnel - Ah, yes, I forgot to put that. A Ball of String is a ball with an end and wouldn't be of much use in the tunnels.
Ball of String - I thought it may, but I didn't want to presume on that would be how it would get coded in after the details were hammered out if Riako and staff accepted the idea. One thing to remember is that it does not stop the time. I often have 5-9 secs remaining on the clock when I get to clicking my answers in the tunnel. The point of the intro gives another view that there is always more than one way to solve a riddle, and it uses a different kind of smarts. Just gotta think outside the tunnel. Lol. A person can actually know a lot about pokemon, but something in the way of preventing or making the tunnels nearly impossible. Like the time limit, pressure of knowing you only get 1 shot, you're a slow reader, have eye problems, clicking the wrong picture (dyslexic), there's many quite actually. This isn't meant to be a cheat to the three Royal tunnels, but a helping hand. Knowing that you can have a second try answering a question, under a time limit, can help keep that flustered feeling manageable.
False Rock Shield - Another that I forgot. The difference is that you would be presented with a different question, at the previous level, and it's a one time use only the entire quiz. So say you already used your string, but you choose the wrong answer on lvl 30 on the Advanced path. Instead of being ran out, you quickly hide. Of course, being in a panic you can loose your bearings. So you are now back at level 29. I little set back, but better than loosing all progress. This one too probably shouldn't be added to the Endless Tunnel.
The only other thing I can think of to help players out is to lengthen or remove the time limit from the first three tunnels. But, then they could then just look up the answers and a suggestion as that has been flat out refused. So hence, I'm trying to find something to help make the tunnels possible to complete.
Because you can follow a 'string' back, but not really a shield; a shield allows you to stay where you are. It would make more sense to follow a string back out the cave than it would putting up a shield, in my opinion ^^'
Now, unto the actual ideas -
Ball of String [Rock Shield] - The reason I don't want this to work infinitely in any Tunnel, is that it would give users the time to eliminate 1 of the choices right of the bat and then take the time to read the question and chose between the two left over answers, which would cut down on the difficulty a lot [in my opinion]. Now you need to take the time to read the question, and I admit, even I sometimes glance over the questions too quickly and make silly/stupid mistakes [like reading a '7' like a '2'], but having something that pretty much gives you a free pass for every question, would change the way the Tunnel is done and would make it too easy. I agree to it being a Key Item, but limited to being one wrong question per Tunnel.
[if this is what you meant, I apologize, but you didn't really answer my start-up question, so I felt the need to explain why I asked that particular question]
Rock Shield [Ball of String] - Maybe they could get x amount of go-backs depending on the difficulty of the Tunnel? For example: 2 in the Easy Tunnel, 5 in the Advanced Tunnel and 10 in the Pro Tunnel? That's 1/10 in the amount of questions, which I feel seems fair?
As you said yourself, I don't feel like the time limit itself should be meddled with; a permanent change to how the Tunnel work [rather than temporary/local help] would only make it too easy to get the Regis. I feel there should still be a little challenge, which is why I feel limited help is the best way to go as well ^^
[Also, I would just like to point out that, even if Mods can decide whether or not a suggestion is viable or not (and help it along the way if we see potential) the final decision on whether it'll be implemented rests on Riako's shoulders, not ours >.<]

Ball of String - People could choose an answer straight away, but it wouldn't benefit them and they would be more likely to either get their second choice wrong too. I thought about maybe the effect of the string takes away a few seconds, but it have the same effect that the Paths already do and it would only encourage players quickly making a guess without even glancing at the clue.
Hm, I think we may be referring to the same thing, but differently. I thought of the String only allowing once per question/tunnel. Hence, second chances. The string would not give a third chance, and nor would the shield.
