"Welcome to the world of Pokemon! I am Professor Oak, a Pokemon researcher. This world is filled with creatures called Pokemon. Now, we will begin the process of setting up your info. First, are you a boy or girl?"

I chuckled quietly as I selected the option for 'girl'. "You're a girl, right?" I selected yes before typing in my name.
Lauren.

"Your name is Lauren?" I selected yes once more before the screen slowly faded to black. I was sitting on my bed, looking at my Pokegear which had just come from the shop. It was broken for a month and we now had to reset it. I was so glad it was fixed, but I definitely need a new case for it. Mom has my old one.

"Lauren! Breakfast is ready!" my mother called. I sat up, rushing out of bed to put my clothes on. Today I was getting a Pokemon. I nearly forgot! I put on my dark blue hoodie over a white shirt. I put on my black leggings and blue boots. I dashed to my desk, picking up my black and turquoise glasses before snatching my brush and brushing the tangled mess known as my hair.

"Coming!" I called, striding over to my bed to grab my bag which was gray with pale pink and blue bubbles. I walked downstairs, waving to my mom. "What's for breakfast?" I asked, sitting at the table. She spun around, holding a plate of pancakes. "Pancakes. And French toast, I know you like that. Also, could you wake up your brother?" I nodded, walking to the room that had my brother's bed in it.

"Ryne wake up or I get to slap you," I commented. He sat up growling. "Lauren what the heck?" he asked, crossing his arms. That, my friends, is my 13 year old brother for you. I am seven years late to getting my Pokemon, but I don't care. "C'mon. Momma made pancakes and French toast," I commented, twirling out of the room only to fall on the floor. My mother laughed, helping me up.

I sat down at the table, ready to eat as my brother walked out, still in pajamas. "Lazy as heck," I muttered, stuffing some French toast in my mouth. Actually, it was the entire piece and after swallowing it, my mom handed me a few things. A trainer card, because I was becoming a trainer today, a journal, a portable charger for my Pokegear, and my sketchbook. "Take care, honey," she whispered, kissing my forehead gently.

"I will, Mom. Also, I'm going to grab some snacks for the road." I ran to the kitchen and grabbed some plastic bags. I grabbed some bread to make a peanut butter sandwich. I grabbed some crackers to add to my collection. I put in some potato chips too. Then I popped a lot of popcorn and basically drowned it in white chocolate. Finally, I added it all to some bags before walking out of the door, waving.

As I exited, I was met by the energetic Marill my friend owned. "Mari! You silly Marill!" he called. "Oh hey, Connor," I commented, waving to him. He grinned at me. "Did you go through yet another girlfriend?" He went from looking happy to extremely annoyed. I chuckled as I walked to the lab. He followed me until we got to the front door.

"Later, chic," he commented, striding off to go home. I rolled my eyes, laughing quietly as I stepped inside the building to be met by the Professor.

"Ah, welcome Lauren. Please, come come." I walked forward rather slowly, glancing around nervously. As excited as I was, I was also nervous. "You're going to be receiving your first Pokemon today. Now-" He was cut off my a ringing coming from his computer. Email? I thought. I watched as the Professor nodded about something before turning back to me.

"My acquaintance, Mr. Pokemon as everyone calls him, says he has made a new discovery. I'd like you to go find out what it is. Here, you can get your Pokemon now." I excitedly paced over to the machine where the Pokeballs were. "How about...Water type!" I picked up the Pokeball with a dewdrop symbol on top of it, eagerly sending out the Pokemon.

"So you choose Totodile?" the Professor asked. I nodded before crouching down next to my Pokemon, smiling. "I'll call you Chronos." Chronos jumped up and down excitedly. Now my adventure could really begin.

Chronos
Male Totodile, Hasty Nature Strongly Defiant
Ability, Torrent

I walked back in front of the professor, Chronos following curiously. "So, Chronos is your new Pokemon then?" I nodded, excitement rushing through me. "Mr. Pokemon's house is past Cherrygrove City. You know how to get there, right? You've been there with your mother if I'm not mistaken." I smiled politely.

"Yep, I've been there. Now, I'm going to head to Cherrygrove." I picked up Chronos and we headed out of the lab together, only to be stopped by one of the Aides. "You'll need some Potions. Take some!" He handed me five Potions, which I put into my bag. "Thanks," I commented as I walked all the way out only to be met by Connor.

"You got a Totodile? Nice!" he commented, ruffling my hair. "Connor no. Go find another girlfriend. I'm not up for a relationship." He gasped mock offendedly before commenting, "Show it to your mom. She'll love it." I snorted, rather annoyed. "Him. Chronos is not an 'it'." I sassily walked toward the house I lived in with my mom and brother.

"Knock knock, I have a Totodile," I commented, letting Chronos run around. My brother and mom were cleaning the dishes when Chronos leaped onto the counter, spraying the dirty dishes and running back to me, laughing his laugh. "This is Chronos, my Totodile. He's really funny, I know." Chronos leaped into my arms. I chuckled quietly as Mom handed me my Pokegear case. It was pale blue and white.

"Take care, honey. I don't want you getting hurt."

"I promise you this, Mom. I don't plan on getting hurt."

After clearing my way through Route whatever, and doing a bit of training too, I reached Cherrygrove City. "Oh! You must be a new trainer. Please follow me," an old man commented, running to me. "O-Okay," I commented in reply as he ran to a building with a red roof. I tried to keep up with him, Chronos scurrying close behind.

"Oh, you don't have any Running Shoes, do you...? Well, try to keep up as best as you can. Anyway, this is a Pokemon Center. Nurse Joy heals your Pokemon for free, and very quickly. You'll be using those frequently, so be sure to recognize this building." He galloped to a blue-roofed building. I picked up Chronos and followed.

"This right here is a Pokemart. You can buy Pokeballs, Potions, and lots of other items you may need on your journey." He sprinted toward a grassy path that went north. "Now over here," he called, "is to where Mr. Pokemon's house is! And over there is the sea." He trotted back over to me. "Some Pokemon can only be found in the water. Now, have a reward for keeping up so well."

He handed me a shoebox that revealed a pair of pastel blue running shoes. "Thanks so much, sir!" I exclaimed, setting Chronos on the ground. The Totodile crossed his tiny arms, and as soon as the man was gone, I had to laugh. "Chronos, you are adorable. Now get on my shoulder, lil' rascal."

The blue crocodile Pokemon crawled up my leg and arm to get onto my shoulder. I put on the running shoes and zoomed off to Route 30. "Wait!" the man was back. "Almost forgot about this." He loaded something onto my Pokegear. "That's the map card. It allows you to be able to use the map on your Pokegear." He zoomed off again.

I rolled my eyes and I stepped onto the route, now walking north, east, whatever it was now, to get to Mr. Pokemon's house, only to be stopped again. "Hey, kiddo! How in the world can you be so oblivious to my eye-catching house? Hold it right there!" I rolled my eyes in amusement before turning around. I walked over to the man, confused as heck.

"When you follow that path up north, you'll reach Mr. Pokemon's house. Before you go, let me finish what I have to say. Do you....have any Apricorns?" I blinked a few times, shaking my head (no) in response. "Apricorn trees bear fruit once a day. I have one of those trees too! Apricorns are really something, as you can make Pokeballs and other things with 'em.

"They are quite useful, if I do say so myself. I feel like this is meant to be, because I have something for you!" He ran inside to get something. He came back out with an orange and white box, with a sticker on the front that says 'Apricorn Box'. I thanked him and left after he explained what the box does. Apparently it holds apricorns. Cool.

Now I was back on track, only to be fighting several Pidgeys in a row seconds later. "It's always the damn Pidgeys," I muttered after I finally reached Mr. Pokemon's house. I knocked on the door. A voice from inside called, "Come in!" I steadily walked into the house, Chronos leaping off of my shoulder and running to the couch, squealing happily.

Oh boy. This will be a long day.

"Chronos!" I whisper-yelled as one of the two men sitting on a chair at a table looked at me. "Oh, you must be Lauren! It was me who sent an email to the Professor earlier. Please, take a seat." He guided me to a chair before running to a glass cabinet to grab...an egg. He took it out carefully and tiptoed to me, handing the egg over.

"This is what I want Professor Elm to examine. A friend of mine from Ecruteak gave it to me. I doubt you can find this kind of egg in Johto. I though Professor Elm might be able to identify what kind of egg this is. 'He's the best when it comes to the research of Pokemon evolution.' That's a quote from the famous Professor Oak.

"You're heading back to Professor Elm? Here. Your Totodile should have some rest." I returned Chronos to his Pokeball as Mr. Pokemon carried it to a healing station. He set the Pokeball on it and pressed a button, before a light ding! sound was heard. He handed Chronos' Pokeball back to me. "Th-Thank you sir."

The other man in the room walked over to me. "And with that, I'm Professor Oak, a Pokemon researcher. So you're Lauren, then. I was just visiting my friend Mr. Pokemon. I heard you were running an errand for Professor Elm, so I waited here." He looked at Chronos with an astonished expression. "Oh! What's this? A rare Pokemon! You must be helping with Professor Elm's research.

"How would you like to help me out? This is the latest version of the Pokedex. It automatically records data on Pokemon that you see or catch. I'd like you to record data on as many Pokemon as you can. Ah! I've stayed too long. I have to get to Goldenrod for my usual radio show!" He walked out of the house.

"W-Well, it's been fun but...I should probably head back," I commented, letting Chronos back out of his Pokeball and walking out, the Totodile following me. Suddenly, I got a call from Professor Elm. "H-hello? Lauren! Oh this is terrible! A Pokemon has been stolen from my lab! Oh, wh-what should I do?" He hung up immediately.

"This can't be good," I commented, picking up Chronos and running toward Cherrygrove City.

As I sprinted through the tall grass, I bumped into a girl holding Cyndaquil. We fell onto the ground and I rubbed my head. "Hey! I just left Elm's lab and then I got a call saying his Chikorita was stolen. I was sent to get you. Oh! I need to introduce myself. I'm Meia, and you must be Lauren. C'mon there's no time!" She helped me up, muttering a quick apology before we ran to Cherrygrove. "Hold on, I'll catch up, I need to heal Ember."

Meia jogged to the Pokemon Center, so I decided to start heading back to the Lab on my own. Chronos tugged on my sleeve as a red haired boy walked toward me. "So the old dude actually gave you a Pokemon? Pathetic. Guess I oughta show you why he should've not given you a Pokemon." He threw a Pokeball, sending out a Chikorita.

"Chronos use Rage!" I called. The Totodile glowed red before charging at the Chikorita, knocking it onto its back. "Well done, buddy." The Chikorita hopped back up, growling. I could see genuine terror upon its face, and it was so horrible. Don't tell me he's abusing his Pokemon! I thought, waiting for the Chikorita to attack. "Chikorita, growl."

The Chikorita whimpered, so Chronos had to feel pretty bad. "Chronos, use Scratch." "Chikorita, growl once more." The battle continued back and forth.

Water Gun, Growl, Rage, Tackle (that missed), Water Gun, Growl, Water Gun, Tackle. And then the final blow. "Chronos, use Water Gun!" I hollered. The Totodile shot water at the opposing Pokemon, which fainted. "Great job, buddy!" Chronos leaped into my arms and I wrapped the Totodile into a hug.

"Hmph. I let you win, you happy?" the red-haired boy asked. I rolled my eyes, smiling at Chronos. "I'll be on my way now." He dropped something as he carried his unconscious Chikorita toward the Pokemon Center. "Mister, you-" I was cut off as I saw it was his Trainer Card. I made a mental note of his name. Jackson. "Give me that." He swiped it out of my hand, walking away. Eventually, Meia walked out of the Pokemon Center.

"Bout time," I commented, a smile still on my face. "C'mon, we've gotta go to the lab." Meia followed me with her Cyndaquil, Ember, as we headed back to New Bark Town. But we weren't ready for what would come next.
