Abbreviations are allowed, unless you're talking about things like u for you, then no support. Some slang is allowed, though not the abusive kind.

Not all people understand slang. You seem to forget that not everyone's mother language is English, so not everyone will understand slang.

Commonly known abbreviations are allowed, but replacing every word with a single letter (when possible) "because it's easier" is not.

So, no support; I can just imagine the one-letter conversations that will flood the chat, which will only increase spam.

How would you know whether or not they understand? How would you know you can (or can't) use a certain slang word?

Using excessive slang will only cause problems, so it's better to not implement it.

Edit : I'm not saying any kind of slang should be punished; just like abbreviations, there are some commonly known/used/accepted slang words that can be used without any trouble.

I don't think the good kind of slang is banned or anything. I've seen people use it, and have even used it myself, without having anything said about it.

I am mostly referring to slang that isn't widely known (I'll edit that in). If nobody says anything about it, no reason to start banning all slang, but allowing any kind of slang, including the bad and the obscure, would be a bridge too far in my opinion...
