Aur walked along the sidewalk, trying to compose herself.

Lyra saw Aur looking distressed walking along the sidewalk. "Hey, what's wrong?" she asked.

"Oh, it's nothing."

"It's never nothing and you know it."

"Can you keep a secret?"

"Yeah, sure."

"That kid, I think her name's Amber, murdered that bully, Max. There was another boy there. Don't tell anyone until I say you can." Aur whispered.

Lyra said nothing, she just looked panic stricken. "Why?" she finally whispered, barely audible.

Aur didn't reply.

Lyra realized the right thing to do was to tell a teacher. "I'm going on a suicide mission. Take this." Lyra took her music note headpiece off and put it in Aur's hand. "Remember me, will you?"

"Lyra... Don't, please..." Aur knew what Lyra was planning to do.

"It's only right."

"It will get more people killed."

"I have to."

"No, you don't."

"Yes, I do!"

"Fine, but come back, will you?"

"I promise."

"Don't break that promise." Aur took the headpiece and put on herself.

Aur realized she was letting Lyra die. "Wait... You shouldn't... Don't!" She grabbed Lyra's arm.

"You know it's the right thing to do!"

"But Amber seemed... Sad... Like she didn't know what had happened. We could try and help her."

"Fine... But keep the headpiece until the whole thing's over."
