Note: Things can be same but also kinda different from the actual series, and this is like my first Warriors fanfic, so don't judge me. Also, THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE POWER OF THREE.

Chapter 1: A Kit's Weakness
"Graykit! Graykit!" A tiny mewling voice squeaked as two kittens, a white tom with green eyes and a small jet black she-kit with an unusually long tail and amber eyes dashed into the nursery, where there lay their brother, a large grey tom with darker stripes, a white belly and socks, and blue eyes.
The tom groaned sleepily and rolled around in his nest. "What?"
"Wanna play with us? We're playing warriors with Moonkit and Icekit!" The she-kit squeaked.
"Moonkit and Icekit? But they're a couple of loud-mouthed morons..." Graykit mumbled.
"No, they aren't! They're fun, and we want you to play with us and them!" The she-kit mewed.
"Mooooom...?" Graykit called for Silverfrost, their mother, who was just entering with a mouse she'd grabbed for herself.
"Graykit, go play with them. They just want you to have fun." She said calmly and gently prodded him towards the two kits getting impatient.
"Fiiiiiine. Just don't annoy me too much, Blackkit. I'm tired." Graykit told his sister on the way out. She flattened her ears and hissed with her tail fluffed out, but this didn't pose any threat to him.
They headed towards a small clearing behind the apprentice's den, where they normally played, and found Moonkit and Icekit already there waiting. Icekit tapped his paws to the ground impatiently.
"What took you so long?" He asked.
"Sorry, but waking a bear isn't too easy..." Whitekit, the other kit teased and nudged his brother. He hissed.
"...Okay then, so who wants to be DayClan?" Moonkit broke the silence/tension.
"We will!" Blackkit squealed, speaking for the three of them.
"So we'll be NightClan." She nodded slightly, then suddenly jumped into a fighting position, her fur rising and her tail moving somewhat like a snake does when it slithers towards its prey. "I'm gonna getcha!"
"NightClan warriors!! Get out of our camp!" Whitekit hissed at them, his fur fluffed out, making him look like a cloud.
Icekit stepped in front of him as he tried to jump at Moonkit. "Not so fast!" He hissed.
Blackkit darted around him and jumped onto Moonkit, not clawing her, but throwing her to the ground. She struggled to get up, and with plenty of effort, she broke Blackkit's grip and rolled over, squashing the black she-kit and then jumping onto her and pinned her down.
Graykit lunged at Icekit, who dodged and pretended to slash at Whitekit, who lay on the ground and pretended to be wounded. Graykit landed in the grassy edge right beside the stone wall at the edge of the camp, only inches away from smashing his face. Icekit saw this and apologized, knowing he had gone too far. Meanwhile, Blackkit and Moonkit were getting a bit serious with their game.
Moonkit kept her pinned down to the ground. Blackkit snarled and pawed at her face, then kicked her off. Moonkit was furious now, and ran after Blackkit to bite her long tail, but at the last second, Blackkit leaped onto a large rock on the other side of their play-place that only she could climb on. Graykit blinked, recalling how Blackkit was the fastest and the most agile out of all of them, and possibly the speediest in the clan, but with Moonkit's temper, who knows how this was going to turn out?
Moonkit sat at the foot of the rock, pawing at it and looking up at Blackkit with no longer playful eyes.
"Stop it!" Blackkit yelled in a no longer playful tone. "What're you doing?! You hurt me!"
Moonkit's eyes cleared of fury as she realized what she was doing. "S-sorry... I... I think I'm used... to... fighting..." She trailed off and suddenly dashed off in tears.
"Moonkit!" Icekit called, pushing past Whitekit. But she was gone.
"What's her problem?" Whitekit asked. Blackkit leaped off the rock.
Icekit had worry in his eyes. "Remember Mudface?"
Then they all realized -- Mudface was the former deputy of DayClan, and Moonkit's father. Growing up, she'd always watched him fight and sometimes even had private training lessons with him. But then a battle came one day, and he died just before the three siblings were born. Moonkit was so used to fighting, it was all she'd ever talk about, and often she would wonder if she could ever rush becoming an apprentice.
"Poor Moonkit..." Blackkit said, feeling guilty. "I think I'm done playing."
Everyone agreed. After a short nod from Graykit, Icekit walked off, and they were left alone behind the den.
"What should we do now?" Whitekit asked.
"We could go get some prey." Graykit suggested. Without a word, they all headed toward the fresh-kill pile, with Graykit in the lead, and Blackkit behind them both.
That wasn't smart of me. She thought.

Title: Chapter 2: Blankness

Graykit silently wandered around the camp with Whitekit beside him. The two kits were practically speechless after Moonkit's little freak-out. He stopped and sat under a tree. The camp was about empty, except for Ambereye and Waterfall chatting beside the entrance, and Lightningbolt, Stormhiss, and Longfang just returning from a hunting patrol. Blackkit was in the nursery sleeping, and everyone else was either in their dens or out on patrol.
"You think Moonkit's okay?" Graykit finally broke the silence.
"I think she was just being dramatic." Whitekit placed his tail over his paws blankly.
"Well, wouldn't it be hard for you if Dad died?"
"Well yeah, but I wouldn't freak out about it months after it happened."
"Whitekit, it wasn't months ago... you know that. And Mudclaw died just a week before Moonkit's supposed to get apprenticed."
Whitekit felt a little guilty, but shook it off. "Oh yeah... don't she and Icekit get apprenticed today?"
Graykit nodded. "I think so. But I haven't seen Moonkit so far at all."
"Hey! Graykit!" A voice chimed in. The kits turned their heads. Flarepaw and Earthpaw were padding towards them with looks of concern. This can't be good. Graykit thought.
"Have you seen Moonkit? She's getting apprenticed pretty soon..." Flarepaw asked. They both shook their heads.
"Why?" Whitekit wondered.
"No one's seen Moonkit for a while. We were wondering if you knew." He mewed.
"And Icekit's pretty worried.." Flarepaw added.
"Haven't seen her. Maybe she's in the nursery?" Graykit suggested.
"No. Already checked." Earthpaw said. Then they both walked off quietly, with nowhere else to go than their den.
"Hey, do you think she's in our play-place?" Graykit said.
"Maybe. Come on!" Whitekit mewled and dashed towards the apprentices den. The kits went around the bush to find the silver kit sitting beside the rock at the edge of the clearing.
"Moonkit!" He mewed and ran up to her. She didn't answer and hung her head. He looked back at Graykit, then back to her. "Moonkit, come on! You're gonna be an apprentice!"
"I'm scared." Those were the only words she would say. It took several minutes of the toms prodding her gently and repeatedly questioning her and asking why, but she said nothing and kept quiet. After an angry mewl from Graykit, Flarepaw appeared a minute later, having heard their frustrated voices.
"Follow me." She told the silver kit, who looked up and nodded slowly, then got onto her paws to follow the apprentice. This left the toms standing silent.
"Er, what was that?" Graykit half-yelled.
"I dunno. But whatever it is, Moonkit doesn't sound too happy..." Whitekit shrugged.
The two kits left the clearing and headed for the nursery to wake up Blackkit. Whitekit gently nudged her and whispered in her ear, "Get up."
The she-kit yawned as she awoke and stretched. "Whaaaaaaaaaaat?" She moaned.
"Come on! We're gonna go --"
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tallrock for a clan meeting!" Sunstar's bellow rang out through the camp. Blackkit jumped to her paws and dashed outside, only to be pulled back in by their mother.
"You're not old enough yet, okay?" Silverfrost mewed and kept the she-kit from running back outside. "You can watch, but just from the opening."
The three kits excitedly gathered at the nursery entrance and watched their leader stand on the large rock just over his den with the rest of the clan gathered below. All cats were around the center of the rock, while two small figures were off to the side of it -- one patient, the other impatient. Icekit and Moonkit.
"Cats of DayClan, we gather here to honor two kits as they become apprentices." Sunstar announced. The two kits walked up beside their leader. "Icekit," He began. The light grey tom was up first. "are you ready for the responsibility and work of being an apprentice?"
"Yes." Icekit mewed.
"Then from this day forth, until he receives his warrior name, this new apprentice will be known as Icepaw. Congratulations." Sunstar meowed. "Tigerblaze, you are to be his mentor. I believe you are ready to receive an apprentice. Train him well, and he will make a great warrior." Tigerblaze came up, and touched noses with Icepaw.
"Moonkit," Sunstar continued. The silver kit stepped forward shyly. "Are you ready for the responsibility and work of an apprentice?"
She hesitated for a moment. "Y-Yes." She gulped nervously.
Sunstar narrowed his eyes, but only she noticed. "Then from this day forth, until she receives her warrior name, this new apprentice will be known as Moonpaw. And your mentor will be Ambereye. She is ready for an apprentice, and I know with hard work you can become a great warrior." Ambereye stepped up and touched noses with Moonpaw.
"Icepaw! Moonpaw!" The cats cheered. Icepaw beamed happily, and Moonpaw just stood there, staring blankly at the crowd, but couldn't help showing a little pride.
"What's up with her?" Graykit mewed. Whitekit shrugged.
"She's lucky! I wish we were apprentices!" Blackkit groaned.
"Well, they're older than us, so..." Whitekit said.
"What do you think Flarepaw was saying to her?" Graykit whispered into his ear as Blackkit went back to her nest.
"I dunno. Maybe it's why she's so nervous or something?" Whitekit whispered back.
"Yeah," Graykit said, staring at Moonpaw's blank face, and Icepaw's sudden worry as he noticed her expression. "Maybe."

Title: Chapter 3: An Elder's Story

The next day, Blackkit wandered the camp out of boredom, and slowed as Moonpaw walked past.
"Hi, Moonpaw!" She greeted her cheerfully, but the silver cat ignored her, and with a hiss, padded off. Blackkit let her ears flatten but kept her fur from rising, and glared at the ignorant cat. "Excuse you!" She hissed, and with a hmph went to find her brothers.
Whitekit was in the nursery pawing at a leaf on an overhanging branch. He didn't seem to notice Blackkit until she stood over him, tapping the ground with her paw impatiently.
He looked up. "Hi. Need something?" He asked, sitting up.
"Moonpaw's being mean!" She mewed angrily. He rolled his eyes.
"Of course she is. She's just a brat, after all." He sighed, licking a paw and swiping it over his ear. "Ignore it, why don't you? You're the most gullible out of all of us."
This made her hiss even more, and her fur started to rise slowly. "Shut up, stupid furball! I just wanna find something to do, but now she's more ignorant than ever!"
Whitekit didn't pay attention to her pointless anger. She was the most childish out of all of them, and she usually tended to get serious with the dumbest things. "Why don't you go start a clan and make yourself leader? Maybe then cats will actually try to understand your pointless ideas." He said teasingly, smiling a bit. She punched him with her paw.
"Moron." She muttered. "At least I try to have fun. Anyways, can we just find something to do?"
"Fine, fine. I dunno where Graykit is, sooo let's just go." He sighed and stood up, then padded out of the nursery with his sister behind him. "What can we do?" He mewed as they stepped out.
"Wanna go see the elders? They can probably tell us a story!" Blackkit suggested, suddenly back to her usual cheerful mood.
"Er... sure..." Whitekit said and they headed for the hollow log that made up the elders den. He stepped in slowly, leading his sister and quietly thanked MoonClan they weren't asleep. Otherwise, that would be awkward.
"Is someone there?" Thrushflight rasped, blindly whirling her head around.
Sandclaw rested his tail on her head and guided her to lay back down. "Calm down," he soothed. "It's just Blackkit and Whitekit."
"Ah, Goldmelt's kits," Rocktooth purred, seeing the two kits standing at the den entrance. "Com'ere, kittens." He said as the kits approached. "what you need?"
"We were wondering if you could tell us a story?" Blackkit mewled.
"Ah, yes. I'm bettin' Thrushflight has a story for you." The old grey tom said in a raspy voice, gently nudging the black elder.
"Alright, alright. Come where I can feel you, kittens." She meowed gently, and the two siblings sat beside her paws stretched out in front of her. "So, what story would you like me to tell?"
Whitekit thought for a moment. "The origins of the Clans!"
Thrushflight took a deep breath. "I'm afraid I don't know that one, little one. But I can tell you the story of one of the greatest battles that ever took place in Clan history -- a battle that nearly caused us all a great loss. How's that sound?"
"Yes!" They both mewed excitedly.
She chuckled a little before starting. "Long, long ago, when I was just a young cat and not the old mess I am, those NightClan cats were sneakier and more hostile than ever. They were led by Darkstar, the most heartless of them all. Darkstar was a beyond-ambitious leader who wanted to take the forest and all the territory for himself. He believed if he had total control, then peace would be brought to all the clans.
"But one gathering, as he tried to explain his poor reasoning to the Clans, the other leaders were more concerned than interested. They rejected his idea and warned him they'd attack his Clan if he even tried to take theirs. Of course he was angry with this, and just before the gathering ended, he caught the attention of all cats as he stomped a paw into the ground and threatened to destroy all Clans if they didn't give in. He told them they would be sorry for refusing his idea and becoming careless with his Clan.
"The leaders really weren't that careless, but that was the way he saw it. He grew very hostile towards the Clans and vowed if there were no Clans other than his to rule, he would make sure there were no Clans other than his. One day, he found a large pack of dogs hidden in the farthest corners of the forbidden areas of the forest, and led them straight into all the territories, causing a breakout of war over all Clans, including his own. As he sat upon the largest boulder, watching all the Clan cats including his gathered in the area below himself, struggling and fighting with the dogs in a mass of blood loss and tears, he realized in horror what he had done. He had not just nearly wiped out the Clans completely, but he had given up and betrayed his own.
"Then, the leader of the dogs, the largest and fiercest of them all, found its way onto the same rock Darkstar was on, and, with a quick bite-and-claw to the throat, the leader was dead. The cats below struggled on, leaving dead cats and dogs everywhere, yet the Clans were losing the battle. It wasn't until NightClan's dead leader was rolled off the rock and thrown at the ground that the Clans stopped and stared. Darkstar was dead, and so was more than half the cats of the forest. I remember fighting that war, tussling with a large dog, getting my eyes scratched and nearly getting killed.
"But right after that, something about the leader's death was... significant to the dogs. They stopped and stared too, and as their leader stood on the rock with its claws digging into the surface, they all suddenly retreated, leaving behind a crowd of cats, both dead and alive. The Clans were speechless. They all went back to their camps, after of course giving one of the largest mourns to their passed Clanmates.
"But as the cats returned the next day after healing to bury their leader's body, it was gone. There was no trail or stain from him left. He vanished just like that." She finally finished, taking a deep breath as the two kittens sat in awe.
"So he just disappeared into thin air?" Blackkit mewed curiously.
"I'm not sure. Some say he's still alive, having escaped and abandoned his clan. He could be out there somewhere, roaming freely outside the territories in an unknown land, perhaps secretly coming to visit his Clan or the gathering from time to time, or plotting a way for vengeance. I don't know where he is now, but all we can say is that he's passed on." Thrushflight rasped.
"Cool! I wanna meet him!" Whitekit jumped up eagerly.
Sandclaw chuckled a bit. "Kit, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to meet him. He was a very heartless cat who killed for trust."
"That sounds scary!" Blackkit mewled, wrapping her tail over her paws and shivering a bit in fear.
Thrushflight curled her tail over the kittens, chuckling. "My dear, Darkstar is long gone. And even if he isn't, no cat has seen or heard from him for ages. But trust me, you're perfectly safe in DayClan." She purred reassuringly.
"But I'm still scared!" She whined. Whitekit couldn't help but mentally agree with her for once.
"There are plenty of scary things in life, as well as wondrous things. Plus you are only kits. I don't have much time left, but you have your whole lives ahead of you. Getting apprenticed, becoming warriors, or possibly a medicine cat or leader. It's your destiny you should think about." Thrushflight purred as she whispered into the she-kit's ear. "Now I want you to go get something to eat, alright? I'd rather you remain healthy than sit here and worry about the unlikely things."
Blackkit nodded slowly and stepped out of the den with Whitekit after saying goodbye to the elders. She padded to the fresh-kill pile and pulled out a mouse for them both to share.
"So what'd you think of the story?" She asked with her mouth full.
"I think it was badly-said, but kinda cool. I wanna meet Darkstar!" He answered bravely in between bites.
"How is that cool, killing cats and forcing them to obey? Sounds stupid!" She hissed, not sure if she was criticizing Whitekit or Darkstar's thoughts.
"You're stupid." He shot back. She slapped him with her tail.
"Go fight a dog." She sighed.

Title: Chapter 4: Unease

(Three moons later)
"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the Tallrock for a Clan meeting!" The leader's command caused everyone to stop in their work and group together beneath the high boulder. Cats everywhere were feeling motivated and determined in their day's work, except for three kits, who were standing behind the leader fearfully -- well, almost. Blackkit wasn't afraid of anything, Whitekit wasn't very affected by fear or bravery, and Graykit was shaking with nervousness. I can't screw this up. He thought.
"Cats of DayClan, we gather here to honor three kits as they become apprentices." Sunstar meowed. "Blackkit," He said. The she-kit stepped forwards. "are you ready for the responsibility and work of being an apprentice?"
"Yes." She replied.
"Then from this day forth, until she receives her warrior name, this new apprentice will be known as Blackpaw." He said. She bit back a squeal of delight. I'm not a kit anymore.
"Lightningbolt!" He called for the dark gray cat, who stepped up. "You are to mentor Blackpaw. I believe you are ready for an apprentice, and with your skill and strength, Blackpaw will be an excellent warrior." He mewed as the two she-cats touched noses and padded off to the side.
"Whitekit," Sunstar continued. The tom walked up. "are you ready for the responsibility and work of being an apprentice?"
"Yes." He said.
"Then from this day forth, until he receives his warrior name, this apprentice will be known as Whitepaw. Longfang, I believe it is your time once again to receive another apprentice. Give him your greatest training, and he is sure to be an amazing warrior, just like Tigerblaze." The leader announced while the toms touched noses and padded towards Blackpaw and Lightningbolt.
"Graykit," He meowed. The final kit nervously stepped up. "are you ready for the responsibility and work of being an apprentice?"
"Y-Yes." The kit stuttered. He covered his embarrassment as murmurs fluttered throughout the crowd.
"Then from this day forth, until he receives his warrior name, this apprentice will be known as Graypaw. And your mentor shall be your father, Goldmelt." Sunstar said. "Congratulations, the three of you. You are to become excellent warriors one day."
Graypaw was stunned. His mentor was his father and the deputy?! What was he going to do? What if he embarrassed himself or pushed himself to far in front of his family? Goldmelt calmly came up to him to touch noses with him. His two siblings and their mentors came up as the Clan broke out into cheers.
"Blackpaw! Whitepaw! Graypaw!" The cats cheered. Blackpaw beamed in pride, while Whitepaw sort of just stood there, shyly waving with his tail and shrinking back behind his mentor, who chuckled in amusement. Goldmelt nudged Graypaw.
"What do you think? You're my apprentice." He whispered into his ear.
"It's... great, dad!" He said unenthusiastically.
"What's wrong?" The deputy asked, sensing the apprentice's obvious unease.
"Nothing. I'm just kinda tired, that's all." He replied. Goldmelt nodded and looked back to the crowd. Graypaw let his ears fall back as his gaze drifted from the Clan to his paws. He stared at them nervously. I'm an apprentice now. I need to act like it. Responsible, determined, ready -- but what if something is holding me back...? Am I still a kit inside?
His siblings were already stepping off the Tallrock by the time he realized the meeting was over. Sheepishly, he darted off the rock and skidded to a halt beside the other two new apprentices. "So what now?" He asked them.
"Well, we're apprentices, so we work?" Whitepaw shrugged.
"Not yet, furball! For now we go see Mom!" Blackpaw poked at him and they both took off toward the nursery to tell their mother how excited and proud they were. Graypaw just stood there, being left alone in the dust as the rest of the Clan went back to their own work and sighed.
"Something wrong, warrior?" He looked up to realize Flarepaw was walking towards him.
Embarrassed, he straightened himself. "Wha...?"
"Graypaw, c'mon, it's obvious to every cat in the Clan you don't want to be an apprentice." She mewed.
"It is?!" He exclaimed worriedly. What would his Clan think if he didn't feel sure of even the most honorable duties?
She nudged him. "Nah, just kiddin'. But you did look pretty stressed... you okay?"
"Yeah. Just... I'm not too sure if this is what I wanna do." He replied. She nodded.
"Yeah, I know. I felt that way when I first became an apprentice. But don't worry. You'll get used to it." She said and flicked an ear. "Plus, it'd be nice to have some company in the apprentice den other than those loud-mouthed mouse-brains." She whispered, motioning to the other three toms, Earthpaw, Icepaw, and Skypaw fooling around outside. Graypaw couldn't help but laugh a little.
"So... I'll see you later." She meowed as Waterfall beckoned for her to follow for a hunting patrol. "Bye!" She called over her shoulder as she dashed off. Graypaw felt more comforted by her words and sighed.
"Maybe this will be kinda fun." He muttered to himself, spying Blackpaw and Whitepaw playing around.
