Sera - Female Snivy. Blue eyes, slightly blue body, silver star necklace.
Axel - Male Deino. You will know his main trouble in the story.
No one had forced me to go, yet I was attracted by the tumult of Pokémon. There were some rumors about a lonely baby around Draco Hills. I couldn't really resist the idea of going and seeing myself what was happening. Therefore I decided to go, as I supposed there would be more Pokémon there. Actually I was right. Those mountains are not too far from where I live, so it didn't take me more than a day to get there. The landscape was totally different, as I was used to beautiful tall trees, bushes and smelly flowers, while those hills were a bit desertic, the rocks had a rather reddish tone and it was a bit hot, even if there was no sun shining. I supposed I would have to sleep there anyway as I wouldn't be back home before midnight. Luckily, I remembered to bring my explorer bag with some food and small items I may need.
As I was walking through a path, I found an Ursaring who seemed a bit fierce, but was truly friendly. He asked me if I was here for a particular reason, as you wouldn't see a delicate Snivy in the middle of such mountains. I told him I was looking for the lonely and mysterious Pokémon, so he guided me to see it. I got some information while we were walking; it was a Deino, alone and it never moved far from what seemed to be its mother. No one knew what was going on though, because the baby fiercely attacked anyone who approached. This had lead it to suffer some wounds, and it always refused to eat something. It only moved a little to find water nearby, probably just to survive. When we reached the exact place where it was, I saw a few more Pokémon around him, but with a secure distance. There were...some dragons like Axew, Gible, Dragonair or Flygon, and others like the Ursaring that had guided me, a Teddiursa and even a Chansey and a Happiny. It was a bit strange finding these two there but maybe they just wanted to help the baby. I asked for permission to see it. And I saw it.
I saw a Deino, sitting right in front of a Hydreigon that was laying on the ground. That one didn't seem to move at all, so at first I thought it could be sleeping or maybe ill. The Deino moved its head from time to time, like watching what was around it. I also noticed it seemed to be a bit thinner than usual, probably because starvation. I didn't think it much and stepped near it. It immediately roared and stood up. I tried to calm it down before moving more, but it was useless. However, it didn't move. Not a single step, a fact I found strange, considering it could have attacked me. I stepped again until there were a few meters between us. I tried talking with it but all I could hear was something similar to "Go" between its roars. I felt like the voice sounded like a male, so I assumed it was a guy. Someone on my back said something and I noticed the Deino had moved his head in a strange way, like confused. This gave me a little idea, so I decided to move slowly to the right without making much noise. When the Deino heard a small rock I moved, he looked to me. Something weird is happening or he isn't alright, I thought. Suddenly I had another idea and I looked back, to see the Ursaring and a Cleffa I hadn't seen before there. I went back with them, always keeping an eye on Deino's reactions. I told my plan to those two Pokémon I saw. The bear accepted, while the pink baby seemed scared.
"Don't worry. I will keep you safe if something happens. Will you help me?" I smiled and the baby nodded. It seemed like the Chansey was in charge of it, so I convinced her too.
First of all, we waited until Deino got a bit relaxed and sat down again. Then I nodded looking at Ursaring and he moved forward. The dragon groaned again, looking to the front. According to the plan, the bear talked to him and then he moved his head, looking up. Everything seemed to work, so the next step was going with the Cleffa behind me.
Same process; waiting until he relaxed, then move towards him. Every time the Deino knew there was someone near him, he looked to the front. The pink baby spoke and as I thought, he looked down. What I didn't expect is an attack. He tried jumping and biting us, so I used Vine Whip to keep the Cleffa safe, moving her near the rest of the Pokémon, who had reacted to Deino's moves. Ursaring used Fury Wipes before I could even say a word. The dragon stumbled to the left and received the attack. I didn't have a choice, so I used my whips again trying to move the bear, who seemed surprised. I convinced him to stay far from the dragon, even though he was angry with me. No one there seemed to understand it.
"Listen!" I shouted while staying in front of the Deino, like trying to protect him "Listen please! He is not a bad boy. He is not attacking you for no reason. He is..."
The own baby didn't allow me to finish and bit me on my left arm. Even if he kept attacking me by hitting or biting, I didn't fight back. I just avoided his moves and when he was about to hit hardly a rock with his head, I caught him with my vines, trying to protect him from danger. He kept groaning, but softer.
"Come here" I whispered. He was about 3 meters from me. "Come here with me" I repeated but he didn't move so I took a berry out of my bag and offered it. "You must be hungry..."
Since he didn't approach me, I threw the berry near him. He started smelling it and then biting it, tasting it. At first he was unsure, but when he discovered it was good, he gulped the berry in a few seconds. The Flygon, curious, tried to move forward.
"Don't move!" I warned them "This baby is scared of us. Any fake move and he may attack again or hide" I took another berry out of my bag and offered it. His groans were softer and he slowly moved near me, smelling.
"But why is he so scared? He should see we just try to help him!" Asked the Flygon, kind of annoyed.
"Well...this poor baby is alone...and he can't see" I didn't throw the berry this time. I wanted him to take it from my hand.
"That is normal...the darker hair doesn't let him see properly right?"
"No. I mean he is blind. He reacts when he catches the smell of someone and when that Pokémon talks, he looks to the place where the voice came from. Plus he doesn't move unless you are really near" I used one of my whips moving it in front of Deino's face. He didn't react "This also proves it. Come here..." I tried using always a soft voice to not scare him. "Check his mum's body, because there is something to confirm"[/i] I asked them in general.
The Flygon itself went to do that meanwhile I gave more berries to the baby. At the 4th try he finally ate from my hand. Seeing it near made me noticed his wounds; cuts and bruises all over his body and head.
"Is the mum...?" The one checking nodded. "I am sorry for you, little baby" I tried touching him, but he bit me again on my left arm. This time was softer though, just like a warning that I shouldn't touch him.
"Ax..." he seemed to whisper. "...el"
"Did you just say something?" I felt surprised since i was starting to think he couldn't speak either. "Is that..your name?" He slowly nodded and sat down. He truly seemed to be a baby. "Here, have the last one" he ate the berry from my hand again. I felt like he was starting to trust me a little. My left arm was bleeding a little due to the wounds, yet I didn't care. There was a lonely wounded starving baby right in front of me. "Listen, Axel. Your mum..."
"Mu...mum" he murmured and seemed a little happy. There was a small smile on his face. He moved a little his short tail.
"I mean...your mum is...the one you were taking care of?"
"Mum" he nodded, happy. This was going to be heart-breaking. I was sad myself. At least half of the Pokémon there left, while the others kept watching us.
"She is not anymore with you, baby" I said as softly as I could.
"Mum?" He moved his head like not understanding.
"She is not here. She's dead" it was hard for me telling this. So hard that I even cried but trying to not make noise.
He denied with his head. When I tried to repeat he did the same thing and moved towards the Hydreigon's corpse. Axel kept repeating "Mum" and touching the body, moving it with his thin paws. But there was no reply. He called her. He touched her with his nose and even bit her softly. He pulled her body a little, like a child trying to attract its parents' attention.
"Mum!"
He couldn't stop moving. Maybe he thought she was sleeping or something all this time.
"Mum"
I knew it was going to be heart-breaking.
"Mum...Mum"
He suddenly stopped, perhaps realizing it was true. A sad true. The last time was so soft that it was barely audible.
"Mum..."
I quickly moved towards him and so did the few Pokemon left after me. I just stood right behind him. I called him and he suddenly attacked me with all his strength, while still shouting "Mum!". I avoided most of his attacks so he just kept harming himself until he felt tired. Then stopped and sat in front of me, more or less.
"Mommy..."
He looked to the front. I saw a tear falling down his face. Another tear. He couldn't stop crying. He was crying like the baby he was. He couldn't see and he could barely talk. I pet him on the head. He allowed me so I hugged him, trying to calm him.
"I am sorry. Really sorry, baby. She is now resting" I murmured.
He cried for a long long time and I can't blame him. I didn't leave him for a second. Why no one understood his condition before? It was quite dramatic, I mean, Axel was a blind, confused, scared baby Deino who was starving almost to death...and now his mother, the one he was protecting, was dead.
I don't know how much time passed until the Deino calmed down, but night was falling. The Chansey suggested me to go home but I explained it would take me too much so it was better to stay there. The Gible that was there then told me there were some empty caves I could use. He guided me a little but when I was walking I heard some steps behind me. Axel was following me.
"Mum" he kept repeating. I didn't change my reply but he didn't allow me to finish "Mum"
"Me?"
"Mum!" He nodded and seemed a little happy. Not as much as before, though. There was still a sad feeling.
"You want me to be...your...mum?" He nodded again and tried touching my hand but failed. He still couldn't understand everything around him. "I can't. But I will be back tomorrow morning to see you" I wanted to pet him but he shook his head like saying no.
No matter what I did, he followed me. I went to the inside of a small cave, just to sleep and eat. He was there, at the entrance, not moving and...like looking to me. I sighed and finally let him enter. The Deino sat near me and I took out the last berry from my bag. He was probably smelling it, and recognizing what it was. He started doing some eager noises.
"It's the last I have and..." I thought of cutting it into halves to share it. "Nevermind, I'm fine"
I remembered it was a sitrus berry, so it could cure part of his wounds and pain. After looking to it, I decided to give him the full berry, as I could just wait until tomorrow. Then I looked at my left arm and remembered I was kind of hurt too, but I didn't have any bandages. Once Axel finished, he was attracted by my blood's scent. He touched it with his nose softly. I wasn't sure if it was like an apology or if he wanted to cure it, but either way his noises sounded sad. Then he slowly licked the blood. He was just scared, he had no idea of what he had done. We didn't really do anything else, I just kept petting him, until he fell asleep. I don't know if he was awake all the time he was protecting his mother, but he was seriously tired now. I kept watching him sleep until I remembered I had brought a small blanket. It had my size and he was slightly bigger than me, but anyway I covered the baby with it. Then I just sat in front of where he was laying. I never stopped stroking him.
I didn't eat that night.
I didn't sleep either.
Yet I didn't care.
It was for the sake of a timid new life.
