In the real world, if you're exploring a cave, and you're suddenly attacked by bats... would you check the other paths to see which one was correct (and if you did have time to do so, would you not just go onwards anyway?), or would you leave immediately like any sane person would?
Everything else on the site has an in-world explanation. Why do you need to pay to get Eggs from the Day Care? The Day Care Man won't take care of your Pokémon if you don't pay in advance.
This, on the other hand, would completely defeat the in-world explanation of being forced to leave the Royal Tunnel - if Zubat are attacking you, there's no reason you have enough time to check the other passages (and risk getting more Zubat to attack you), and if you somehow DO have enough time to check the passages, there's no reason why you can't just progress in the tunnel anyway.
Gameplay and story segregation is not always a good thing, especially when the same result can be achieved, as Autumn said, by checking a site such as Bulbapedia or Serebii.
And in regards to keeping the story straight, maybe we could add something like "later, after asking Professor Rowans, you found out that the answer was ____" after the zubat attack.
i dont see any problem there since its not a really big thing + information from other sides dont always apply on pokeheroes (e.g. egg-groups of dex-rewards)
royal tunnel seems to be hard for a lot of users so maybe this would encourage more users to go on trying :)
@CarpetMonster: since the tunnel changes itself anyway every time you go in, i dont see a problem finding a solution like: the right one glows after you choose a wrong one and tells you about the right solution that way (this might not be the perfect solution but its one i came up within seconds, therefore this should not be a big problem here)
