I think something like a question mark could potentially be offensive? I think the default should definitely still be a person, otherwise we might unintentionally be saying someone isn't a person because they won't share their gender.

How about a silhouette that's clearly a person but gender neutral. Obviously May and the male trainer (can't remember who it is) both have clear genders even when silhouetted, but what about someone like Tracey? Without the details, you probably wouldn't be able to tell his gender, and I'm sure there are other trainers like them that aren't clear either way?

btw full support of this whole thing, I'm happy with my female symbol as I often get confused as male, but I know many people that would rather not show anything at all.

Full support because not everyone is either male or female. This really should be implemented.
How about a little help? I always return the favour! :)

I was kind of thinking a pokemon or a question mark wouldn't be that bad of an idea but TinyJoltik does have a point. I'm not that familiar with the anime trainers since I've only watched the early seasons with Brock and Misty so if someone knows a trainer who would come off as gender neutral as a silhouet, don't hesitate to speak up. Though Tracey does look promising. :d

Despite what I said above, I'm not shooting down the pokemon idea. (Or the question mark one even though I'm less fond of that.) It kinda depends on what people want.

And thanks for the support everyone, I appreciate it. :3

Yeah yeah, no support.

I don't see a benefit to this.

I played a game once that didn't show genders, and I once said: "He did it!" then she replied: "I'M A SHE NOT A HE LEARN SOMETHING". That is why I don't like the idea of not showing genders .-.

Also, you girls are interested in this. Most boys aren't. :/

Wow okay I am just going to say that is a pretty ignorant reason not to support this. This isn't a matter of "I don't want to accidentally call someone a guy when they are a girl." This is for people who don't consider themselves either male or female or both or simply don't know or would rather remain unknown.

Those people have every right to hide their gender, if someone wants to yell at you that they're female then chances are they'll put that they are female. And if you accidentally call them something else so what? This isn't for you. This is for people who would rather not be called either or simply remain unknown.

Everyone has a right to their identity. And to say you don't support that right is ignorant.

I don't like your comment aswell Book. I know few gender-confused people? (Not sure how they are called) and I know that it can be really hard when you have to choose weather you want to be male or female even though you don't feel like neither ... Your reason for not supporting this is kinda ignorant - Because you don't need it nobody should have it? Because more girls support it than boys it means that it shouldn't be implemented? Sorry but that's all I got out of your comment which is basically nothing...

Well, the idea isn't that everyone's genders would be hidden. The gender would be shown unless the user chooses otherwise. Just like you choose your style or your country. You don't like it, you don't have to use it. Some of us don't identify as female or male or just don't want to let other people know our gender for some reason. This is for them.

And you just brought front another reason for me to want this implemented even more. I hate it when people direct attention to gender and talk like being male or female is a big difference. It doesn't matter which gender supports this, it matters that some people do support this.

Also, if a person chooses to hide their gender and then gets mad at people who get it wrong then it's on them. I don't see why such people would hide their gender in the first place though.

Wow, double-ninja'd. :p

As I think I have already stated: I'm a female, but I prefer to be associated with a male on this site as the username I currently have (and the one I plan to change to) is male. I didn't realize that I'd want to associate as more of a male on this site when I joined, so I chose my actual gender.

Now, though, it's actually beginning to irk me when people refer to me as a female, but not enough to tell them "Hey call me a he!" just enough for me to wish I had signed up as a guy or that I could get my gender changed or hidden on here.

Gender shouldn't matter for most things. Going "Well, obviously females want this, but males have no use for it" is further showing that there is a reason to have this go through. If there were no genders applied to the users who supported this, you couldn't have said that and been 100% sure you were accurate. Also, I know a few males, irl, who would use a feature like this on a site if they joined. The examples have already been listed by other users, so I have no reason to reiterate them for those of you who think this is a waste of time.

I can't really think of why someone would want to hide their gender, but I'm sure there are reasons. They just can't flip out when someone calls them the wrong gender if it's hidden, though.

Yeah Book, I have to say that was a pointless post.

@book: i have said before "and for using wrong pronouns, if someone wants certain pronouns to be used, it's their job to let people know which pronouns they wish to be addressed as, or to very politely correct someone if they're addressed wrong"

also, you are only one guy - don't speak on behalf of all the other guys, you can't claim to know what they are or aren't interested in just because you happen to be a dude

I am bumping this with the hope that Riako will look soon.

It still has my full support.

And to the nay-sayers: If you want to be called by gendered pronouns, or care what pronouns people use, why would you choose to hide your gender in the first place?

If you can read this, you know how to read.

I support this.
Also, something to add would be "no gender" because some people prefer not to be addressed as a male or female. Most websites nowadays are beginning to support agender people anyways, and it's also going through the government currently (as signed via a petition with over over 100,000 supporters, i think?).

Full support from me.

In all honesty, I was a bit caught off guard when I noticed that users were pretty much forced to choose between "male" and "female", especially considering that I come from sites that at the least have an "other" category. I mean I personally consider myself female and prefer female specific pronouns but I know for a fact that not everyone fits into the very narrow categories that are "males" and "females". Being forced to pick something that you don't identify with is a bit insensitive if you ask me.

Full support

I used to play a game called "Pokemon Omega" (now shut down) where I would never put my real gender. I was often mistaken as a male but I never started saying profanities at the person nor would I say something that would upset them. The game had a choice - whether or not to display your gender and I choose not to, so it's pointless if I yell at a person when they get my gender wrong. I feel that people should be able to hide their gender if they want to. And if you change your gender to "no gender" there really isn't a point to yell at a person for getting your gender wrong because you had an option.

Support, on the main idea: Having a Hidden Gender would be a great feature, it's not really game changing, however it is something I feel people need. I'm Billingual, and so if I tell somebody I'm dating a guy, they think I'm a Girl, and Vise Versa. So I'd just rather have my gender hidden so I don't have to put up with, "Wait your a guy!?"

No support for the ? Mark/Pokemon thing: The Question Mark/Pokemon thing is a bit well... Offensive. Having a question mark could be rude to others and they may take it the wrong way, and having a Pokemon might not work because it looks like your gender is all of a sudden a Pokemon, I don't want my gender to be Ducklett. So I'd rather just have it be blank instead of a Symbol.
