Linnea carved through the two men in front of her as if she were a hot knife taken to butter. She moved with the grace of the gods before dancing through the door to the wails of her brothers Mudsdale. She saw them instantly. Six large men with large weapons. All ready to dance with the princess. "I will give you a few seconds to reconsider and lay down your arms," said the Princess, through her steel helmet. "If you don't comply I will be forced to take your life." "Garhaha, oh righ' luv," said one of the men. "We'll lay'em dow' once we lay yah low, oh righ'?" All at once they charged. Faster than they could reach the princess, though, Linnea put her hand deep into her satchel and pulled out a stone with runes carved into the top. "Doublade, come forth," she screamed as the placed the stone against her chest. A gate opened in front of her, and out came the crossed sword shape of the Pokemon she just summoned. Doublade fixed his eyes on the charging men, and immediately flew into action. Before she new it, most of the men had fallen to her Doublade and her own sword. Far from being able to celebrate though, she realized that one of the men were missing until she heard whispers from her left. Spinning, she saw a rock coming towards her. The rock begin to open it's arms and eyes, and then glowing a blackish red. Reeling, she fell to the ground as the Graveler began to self-destruct. The Princess closed her eyes to await her doom. Doom never came. Instead, Rapidash leapt through the air and kicked the Graveler back towards it's master, instantly killing him in the process. The Princess immediately regained her feet and threw her arms around the fire horse. Her brothers body guards, and soon after, her brother joined her out front. "Alain!" shouted the Princess. "Please tell me this wasn't your plan?" "As much as I like almost dying, unfortunately, no this was not on my list of activities today," said the Prince with a blatant sarcastic tone. "What a mess. Sorry to drag you all into it." "'Tis alright my friend," said Eldin. "That is what we are here for." The sentiments were echoed by Roth. "So what now," exclaimed Linnea. "Do we stick around here and wait for the next group of curs to show?" "No time," said Alain. "We race back towards the capital." [Read more] |

In the spoiler is some info about the setting. This setting itself is originally inspired by my plans for a Pokemon Tabletop United campaign that never happened since I DM regular D&D and have a baby, so running two campaigns at once would literally kill me. Instead, I've turned it into a story I hope you'll all enjoy! Show

Castora is a continent set in a
western medieval fantasy world, where sword, sorcery and Pokemon
exist hand in hand as means of feudal living. The nation of Dagron
was once a very imperialistic kingdom, until the new king Siebold
the 5th took his crown and began setting the wrongs of his father
right. Fear still runs rampant in the remaining kingdoms, but that
has not stopped Siebold from playing a phenomenal peace keeper.
In the years following Dagron’s long and destructive military campaigns, the Pokemon of the region has begun to become more naturally violent. This region, known as Castora is comprised of 7 countries: The old and powerful Dagron Empire; The scorching land of scheming Guild Galad; The frozen lands of Raguraz; The fertile, growing lands of Greensea; The kingdom of Shadow Veil shrouded in darkness and eternal mystery; The southern, tropical paradise of the Zephyr Islands; and the Kingless Marches, ruled by its merchant lords. Wild Pokemon populate everywhere there is a habitat for them to occupy since Pokeballs are a new and rare invention. Only few have been domesticated through patient taming and selective breeding, and those species are Mareep, Miltank, Tauros and Magikarp for their food and other byproducts. The Kingdoms all have their capitals, save for the Marches, and each answer to a king. Typical of a feudal system, the King has his vassals, who in turn have their own, and so on until we reach landed knights and their serfs. Taxes make their way up the chain in exchange for protection on their way down the chain. Pokeballs: Capturing Pokemon is a new concept here in the Kingdoms. In years past, most trainers would use food and medicine to tame Pokemon much like we would do to a dog. However, due to magical research and advancement, along with new smithing technology, the courts around the world have developed the new Pokeball as a means to make the world a safer place without killing the creatures that call the world home. These Pokeballs cannot be made cheaply, however, as the proper channels for specialists to produce many have not been set up. Pokemon Centers They do not exist in the traditional sense in the lands of Castora. In fact, healing has been by Chansey for as long as history can be recalled. They’ve taken to working with humans to create the Chansey Healing Church, a religion where people believe that Chansey gave the world life since they are so keen on saving as many as they can. Services are offered for free, and each “Church” is run by a Blissey. These services are offered to Pokemon and Human alike. Religion The gods have been known to walk amongst humans, both in avatar form or in their actual form. There are two religions in Castora. The one, much less popular was mentioned above in the Pokemon center section. The other is the Faith of Arceus, the Pokemon known as the all creator. Every legendary Pokemon has a place in Arceus’ halls, each group with their own cult followings world wide. This religion is as old as time itself, as the earliest human and Pokemon saw the finishing steps of creation before Arceus folded back into his own realm. On the day of creation, Arceus created the 21 planes of existence, one for each type of Pokemon (dual type Pokemon being found in both of their respective types lands), a land for the living, a land for the dead, and a realm for the gods. Here in Castora, you will find heroes and villains from all walks of life, and of every shape, size and species. -Chapter 1- The Prince It was a dreadfully windy day, made worse by the speed the Prince's Mudsdale carved it's way down the road. He knew he couldn't let down the pace though, as his task was too urgent to allow it. Prince Alain threw a quick glance over his shoulder, where he caught a glimpse of his sister, Princess Linnea, atop her elegant Rapidash. Behind her followed Sir Eldin and Sir Rotheril, both atop their own Mudsdale. The duo were his bodyguards, and his closest friends. The foursome began their climb at noon, making way for the inn known as the Pidgeot's Perch. It sat high above the ground, near a cliffside overlooking Alain's future kingdom known as Dagron. When they left, the sun was almost unbearable, and now as night quickly approached, the wind became even worse than the heat could ever dream of. Linnea and the knights did not know why there was such urgency, but they kept pace all the same. As they approached the inn, Alain motioned for his group to slow down. He walked his Mudsdale, affectionately named Rocinante, to a hitching post and unsaddled himself before tying her up and patting her on her snout. "Good Roci," said Alain, as the other's dismounted their beasts as well. "I'll be back in a little bit. If you see anything you don't like, use some of that horsepower to show them who's boss, okay?" Rocinante slightly reared and gave as much a smile as a draft horse could. Behind Alain, Princess Linnea patted her Rapidash and fed the creature an apple from her bag. She then grabbed her sword hilt and peered at her brother. "Alain, why this dump? Why so fast? Why do y-" she said, before Alain cut her off. "Sweet sister, please know I have my reasons," Alain said as he placed his hand on his sisters until she eased the grip on her sword. "All will become clear in due time, but please, if this goes sour promise you'll have my back. Father would be furious if his proteges died in a run down mess like this." "Okay, fine. Always doing your dirty work." This statement was far from false, Alain thought to himself before feeling a twinge of regret. His sister was always the one carving through swathes of enemies while Alain looked on shocked at her skill. He was not the greatest of swordsmen, nor was he skilled in the elemental artes, or any sorcery for that matter. He excelled, however, in matters of the mind and of interacting with people and Pokemon. Even from a young age, his glib tongue got him what he wanted, often finding him in more trouble than he bargained for. When he was 5, he convinced a scullery maid to derobe for him, and after his father shouted him straight from the court to his bed chambers, Alain turned his gift of gab into a game. Hopefully today was one of the days his tongue didn't land him an unforeseen punishment. "Eldin. Roth. Would you kindly make sure I don't take an arrow to this pretty face when I enter?" "Aye, my lord," said Sir Eldin before throwing open the door. Rotheril quickly entered with hand on sword, ready to unleash fury in the case of a trap. Eldin immediately followed. After a few seconds and the absence of commotion, Alain and Linnea entered. The room was smoky, and smelled of tobacco. A quick look around saw some less than friendly looking men sitting around a table playing cards while being served by a tavern wench. The barkeep looked rather unfriendly as well. This made sense to the Prince, as these were rough parts to live in between bandit attacks, constant threat of earthquake, and the Arceus forsaken wind. The men from the table didn't even look up when the four entered. "Ah my lord, how I've been waiting for you," came a loud shout from the corner. The men from the table looked up then. Alain swore he caught a small grin on the largest ones face. "Come, come, share my table and my wine." A relatively small man stood in the corner with arms out. He was of dark skin, and darker hair, with a sort of uneven look in his eye. The sort of look someone gets after surviving year after year of potential doom on the high seas. He had a few of his men behind him. Alain counted 4, but who knows how many were crammed behind the column just out of view. This was more dangerous than he initially thought. Perhaps he should have brought his fathers favored weapon after all. The prince removed his helmet, causing his red hair to stand out against the black steel of his armor. "Pirate King Ozoumo, how long has it been since I last had the... pleasure?" Alain asked. "Pirate god now, my lord. I've been blessed by Manaphy. Even the most destructive of waves can't capsize me. Makes for good money , aheeheehee!" "Oh, am I to worship you now, oh god of the seas?" Eldin laughed aloud before Linnea nudged him to keep down. Ozoumo looked a bit hurt, but kept on as pleasant as before. "Surely you jest my lord," said the pirate. "I am but your humble servant at the end of the day, my lord, and I've called you here with dire tidings. Grumblings in the south my lord. Those frigid lords near the ice shelf seek to rattle the realm. They want to see your father burn for the crimes of his father. And your humble servant doesn't want that. Without you and your daddy to look the other way, how can I continue to prosper? Aheeheehee!" "He is your king, and you will refer to him as such," asserted Linnea. Her grip tightened on her sword. Alain flashed a quick glance at her, hoping to diffuse her temper. She could cleave the man in half if she wanted, and Alain knew she did. "Ozoumo, how in Arceus' light do you know this? It's not like the queen down there told you herself? You best not be lying to me." "My lord, lie to you? After you've been so kind? Why do you hurt me so? I'll have you know I was given this tidbit by lor-" said Ozoumo before he choked out a spat of blood. A bolt from a hand cross bow bloomed from his chest as he collapsed to the ground. Before Alain could turn around, the man from the table who had fired the crossbow was missing an arm and one of the other two laid dead on the table. When he finally looked, he knew Linnea's handy work when he saw it. It was art to her, and she looked beautiful as she rained destruction on her enemies. The third fell to Roth's sword a little further on. The one with the hand cross bow still lived, dismembered as he was. Alain grabbed him around the throat and pushed him down on to his companions corpse. "Who hired you? TELL ME!" Alain screamed before he heard Rocinante go ballistic from outside the inn. Linnea was out through the doorway in a flash, and then an explosion rocked the foundation of the inn. Alain feared the worst before he and his two friends ran to the doorway as well. To be continued in Chapter Two - The Princess of the Blade. [Read more] |
