Students clambered from their seats as the professor stepped away from his podium, signaling the end of class. Near the back of the lecture hall Fay moved to gather his belongings, accidentally knocking over his backpack and sending its contents sprawling across the floor. Out from his stack of textbooks one book slid farther than the rest; Pokemon: Fact and Fiction. Fay hastily stuffed it back in his backpack, hoping no one around him saw. To many, Pokemon were little more than a childish myth. Confined within city walls, the vast majority of citizens choose to believe that Pokemon had gone extinct like the rest of the humans many years ago. But Fay had always enjoyed reading stories about times of old where humans and Pokemon had lived together harmoniously, and secretly, he liked to entertain himself with the idea that Pokemon had survived.

Fay joined the stream of students exiting the building, falling into line around the transporter that would take him to his next lecture. He could see the Wall from here. No one truly knew what life was like outside the city walls, and the System seemed content with keeping citizens in the dark. It seemed illogical for the System to have never organized search parties for the outside world, yet the System claimed to have no information of the outside. What if Pokemon really were out there? What if the System was hiding it? Fay stepped into the blue glow of the transporter, lost in thought as the Wall disappeared from sight.

Nyx slipped into the crowd of Pokemon, keeping to the edge as the gathering grew in size. Over the figures of larger Pokemon Nyx could see a Coffagrigus standing at the head. The truth was, Nyx was somewhat scared to penetrate the walls. Terrified, even. Now that he was here, that awful day was coming back to him, the day his siblings were violently ripped from his life by the Collection.

How long has it been since he’d last seen his siblings, over a year already? He’d like to say he had grown stronger in the time apart, more independent, and in some ways he had. But even now he still felt so alone. Still, clinging to the distant hope that his family was still alive, Nyx mustered up his courage and pushed closer toward the center of the crowd.
