Kinda sad that so many people cheated... though it doesn't surprise me. I used to do moderator work for another "pet raising" type site, and cheating during official events was commonplace there too. Lots of people assume that because it's online, they can get away with it and not get caught... and the desire to have the often valuable and highly sought after prize overwhelms any sense of fair play. You have this backwards. High prices drive piracy... and the best way to combat piracy is to LOWER prices. You will always have a few hardcore people who will ALWAYS buy legal copies. And you will always have a few hardcore people who will ALWAYS download illegally. It's the people in the middle that make the difference... they're the ones who will buy legal copies where it's both affordable and easy for them to do so, but will resort to piracy when getting a legal copy is made too expensive or difficult. This is why music piracy is actually on the decline, because now instead of having to go to a shop and buy a CD for some ridiculously inflated price, you can now buy the tracks you want for a reasonable price and download it straight to your music player of choice. It is actually EASIER to buy a legal copy of your favourite music, than it is to pirate it, thanks to music services provided by iTunes and Google. Piracy of films and TV shows will decline as stream-on-demand services become more widespread and more affordable (and would also decline if new release DVDs weren't so overpriced). The more accessible the latest films and TV shows are to watch through legitimate means, the less reason there is for people to pirate them. Piracy of games will decline once companies stop charging ridiculously inflated prices for digital distributions (which are often priced at twice the price of a DVD copy.) Good Old Games has the right approach - their prices are fair and affordable, they don't load their games with DRM software that cripples your computer, and you can download the game you bought from their site. As a result, many people buy games from GOG that they would otherwise be required to obtain illegally. Seriously, increasing the price of your product is a TERRIBLE means of anti-piracy, because it actually makes your product less affordable to the people who would buy it if they could. The average fan of *insert type of media* would much prefer a legal copy... if only they could afford to buy it. Anime suffers from the problem of both being very expensive to purchase, and in some cases very difficult to obtain outside of Japan, both of which encourage piracy because it prevents the average casual fan from being able to get a legal copy easily at a price they can afford.
