(No, shu, bab. It all gonna be k.)
Abeline sputtered, spitting out a glob of spit and salt water. Her lungs burned, and her mouth stung. The demons were lining the shore now; evidently, they had spotted her paddling in the water. They jeered at her, cheering her eventual drown, yet they were too skittish to touch the water itself.
Her head, barely above the water, whipped around as she heard movement. Fallow and Marshall were moving. Marshall was slumped on her back, and she was struggling to keep moving forwards, but with a desperateness that only comes during life-or-death situations. She was going to call out, but then the sea boiled beneath them.
Creatures with mouths full of fangs, and webbed fingers tipped with dangerous talons, swarmed the two. Abeline cried out, beginning to swim towards them.

(NO FORGIVENESS!)
Abeline dove underwater, paddling powerfully through the water. It whooshed around her, a gentle hand. After a minute, she came up, gasping for air. She had no idea where the cave was. She couldn't stay out here forever. She kept paddling though, knowing that she was in the safest place right then and there.

Abeline gave a snort of triumph as she discovered a slanting slope that led down to the beach. Demons couldn't go in the water, and Abeline certainly wasn't a demon. She darted to the edge of the water, throwing up a cloud of sand. The breeze rolling off the ocean was sweet and salty. She began to wade into the ocean, grimacing as it healed every scar on her body. Every painful memory that had stayed with her on her body was gone. It pained her to do it, but it was a life or death situation.

Abeline skidded to a halt. She was on a cliff, overlooking the lake. She let out a growl of frustration. She was so close. She closed her eyes and calmed her beating her, and shook her head. "I have to hide myself while I look for a way down." She murmured to herself, coaxing her body into the painful change. "I have to be able to hide. I have to be able to run." Her face grew into a snout, bones popping as they adjusted. She crouched down on all fours. "I have to be able to--" A snort escaped her lips, fur growing out everywhere. She let loose a huffed deer cry before leaping along the ridge, looking for a way to go down. She was painfully aware of how un-deerish she was acting.

(Shhh... procrastination? No...)
Abeline listened closely, but no. The remaining demon sped off, barking and yipping hellishly. Abeline sniffed the air but all she could detect was the warm scent of earth. she poked a tiny hole into her man-made barrier and saw that there were no demons to be seen. She dug out the rest of her hole, sprinting towards where she believed the lake was, with one thought pounding through her head: SAFETYSAFETYSAFETYSAFETY.

There was a sickening crunch, and one creature fell silent. The other howled with bloodlust, and others replied. How many where there? All her life she always had an alternative exit. She had never before been this cornered. Her heartrate picked up rapidly, and she blinked back tears.

(WEEE or(e) am I?)
As Abeline was trying to meld herself with the wall, the fight grew physical. The words that had seemed almost human ripped into something else, growls and angry snarls. The two slashed and clawed at each other, yipping in pain and howling in agony. Abeline covered her ears against the horrid sounds, moaning slightly.

(*pats* I forgive you or do I?)
Abeline clutched her knees to her chest as she heard the quiet-but-not-quite-silent footfalls of the demonic soldiers above her cave. They spoke is a spitting, harsh language that vaguely reminded her of Russian and German. Although she knew bits of both, she couldn't pick up a single word they spoke. Obviously, they were not speaking a living language from Earth.
One's voice raised in anger, scolding another. The companion hissed back something, sounding self-defensive. The two got into an argument, stomping on the ground. Dirt shook from the ceiling, and Abeline pressed herself farther into the wall.

(hOIII!!! I, uh, have to leave on Thursday... please don't be mad)
Abeline rushed through the forest, ignoring the wail of the demons. Her heart was in her throat, beating with one thought: survivesurvivesurvivesurvivesurvivesurvive. Her long legs carried her easily through the maze of trees and underbrush. She nearly cried as she spotted a small alcove along the side of the hill.
She figured that it was some sort of abandoned badger nest, as she could tell by the scent. The entrance was small, but the inside was surprisingly big for an animal such as a badger. As soon as she squeezed into the hole, she began scoot dirt into the entrance, covering it up so it looked natural. When she was finished, she sighed in exhaustion, hoping that the smaller tunnels peppering the area would let oxygen in.

The demon soldier fought back viciously, sharpened nails scrabbling for her eyes. She ducked and weaved, trying to aim a throw, and missing most of the time. However, the ones she did land were devastating to the creature.
Mid-punch, the demon froze. Abeline took this opportunity to attack, though it did nothing in return. As she was throwing her fourth punch, it hurried away, seeming as if it were on the trail of something. Abeline stood there for a moment, panting, before limping through the underbrush, searching for a place to camp out the night.

Abeline winced as the crack of the shoulder's head collided with the wall of darkness, but didn't waste time in scooting around him to check the entrance. She knew that Marshall could deal with a single soldier, but if there were more, they would know soon enough that their buddy was missing, and she fought best in the open.
When she shot out of the hole, someone shouted and pointed at her. Already, skin was becoming coarse fur and hands were becoming hooves as she leaped nimbly towards the voices. Her skin prickled as she ran from Marshall, but she believed that she could handle herself in a fight, and the same with Marshall.
She paused in her rush, choosing instead to quietly creep around instead of crashing through brush. She let her breathing hush into a barely a stream of air as she listened for the soldiers. His heartbeat gave him away, pumped with adrenaline. She launched in to the air towards him, smashing her hoof into her jaw, and changing the lower half of her body human, so she could hold on to him. He howled, and the fight was on.

(also, I'm leaving for an over-night camp tomorrow, so I won't be able to respond for a really long time D: )

"Of course we do." She replied quietly. "I'm just worried about what would happened if we escaped right now. I know the demons are looking far away from where we are, but where would we go? You said you couldn't teleport, so we would be stuck on the beach one way or another." She looked away. "Marshall, so many people in my life have died, most of them friends. Please don't join that group."

She shrugged. "I still think it's better if we stay hidden. Again, we can't do much if we're dead. If we stay hidden, we'll be safe. I mean, I can deal with hunger, since I'm not really running right now. Does your... uh, digestion work differently than a human-- shapeshifter's?"

(Exactly. :3)
Abeline gave him a look, tempted. "Do you have a death wish?" She asked, shaking her head, even though a smile was spreading on her face. "We should just wait till they're gone. I'd rather play it safe than die here."

(Writing quite writely)
"Alright." She said quietly, pulling on Marshall's pant leg. "Come back down, we don't want them to see you." Even though she wasn't quite fond of the demon, she could feel herself warming up to him, and she certainly didn't want him dead.

(speaking quite talkfully)
Abeline gave a nod. "Yup. I did grow up with people... er, humans." She corrected herself, studying Marshall's face for any offense. "It was always easier back then, and I didn't really acknowledge it. I was always safe, always fed, never scared, or hiding in a hole," she laughed, gesturing at the area around the duo. "It was just... simple, I guess."

So that was an elf, Abeline thought thoughtfully. "Yeah, I haven't seen one either." She said, laughing quietly. "You guys are the first... uh, magical, people I've seen." She lay her head against the dirt wall, sighing slightly. "I'm used to normal people... normal police, normal guns, normal threats... not-" she waved her hand at the crumbly ceiling, "-this. This is all new; well, at least to me."

Abeline nodded. "Yeah, I'm with you on that." She gave a half-felt laugh. "Being a deer, well half deer, I guess, kinda makes me predisposed to like open spaces. I'm trying to rationalize with the side of me that wants to run out there and bolt." She waved a hand at his apology. "And don't worry about seeming impatient. I know your sister's out there with whoever the heck that guy was, so I understand why you want to get back so badly."

She glanced up at the roof and, despite her superior hearing, she couldn't hear anyone crashing around. "I don't think so... but better safe than dead. We should probably stay down here for awhile longer." She bit her lip, knowing the opinion wouldn't sit well with him. "We need to stay safe. We can't get back to Fallow if we're dead."
