And a third voice had joined the chorus. Kynik looked to the side where Riley was positioned to acknowledge her. "I might have a go at it once these three give up. For now I'm just observing the movements. None of us could take him on our own and succeed so it would need to be a group and that group would need to properly work together with quick verbal cues if necessary since none of us know each other well enough to go on body language."

The browned haired man lifts a hand to point at one of the fighting students. "That looks like a longsword. They seem to be using speed tactics but their body movements suggest they should focus more on heavy hitting." His eyes were focused as he said this but the hand moved slightly to the side at a second student. "Another longsword opting for a wide swing but their wrist movements suggest they have the flexibility and accuracy to be a good technique fighter. They could still use their current methods just fine but they might not realize the lean."

The hand moves to his chin, pinching it slightly. "If they were working together they might be more effective but right now it's all random. Fisch's movements though are trained, flexible. Look at his feet, he seems to be prone to a certain pattern. When he gets hit a certain way, it breaks the pattern for just a split moment. It might be best for them to have someone focusing on breaking that pattern and the other two alternating on keeping that pattern broken for a much better chance. He's swift at recovery but if this were a random encounter with him as an enemy, a 3 man formation applying that to him might be enough to at least shoo him away even if the level of skill wasn't enough to defeat him."

He seemed to be more or less thinking out loud but it was still information he was willing to share with his speaking companions.

"Oh trust me, I've thought about it." A voice had responded to him so he would of course carry on the conversation. "However I'm caught between a rock and a hard place. On one hand the prospect of being able to put ones skills to the test to this degree highly excites me." He pauses and grips his right arm, rotating the shoulder slightly. "But I fear I've been put at a disadvantage due to this morning's exam."

Kynik looks up and back at wherever Tien has positioned himself. Ahah, that was the voice. "I guess part of it's pride. I can't show my full potential when the nurse said not to reopen the wound. Or I could do it anyways." He snickers giving a cheeky grin and looks back to the broadsword he'd brought with him, tilting it for the shine. "I suppose I'm just trying to talk myself into picking a choice. Tien was it?"

Kynik had held back, watching the fight from the sidelines of the Knight's field. Although he'd normally have been eager to be one of the first to volunteer, the memories of this early morning's injury and the nurse's warning had echo'd. Sure the bandages were currently hidden by the Uniform's jacket but the occasional stinging sensation reminded him the injury was still there.

However, despite this, he didn't seem entirely impressed at the view in front of him either. 3 of the students from his class were in the midst of battle with their teacher Sir Fisch. Unsurprisingly, most of the students here were just that, students. Some knew a bit more of the basics than others and he doubted this were the first time they'd held a blade if a knight's pursuit was their chosen profession but standing off against the teacher, it seemed hopeless.

The boy currently sat on the ground, his longsword lain in front of him as he worked to properly clean it. While he had wiped the blood of the beast he'd culled this morning, some of the ichor hadn't completely come off. It was a job that was quickly taken care of but afterwards he held his left fist to his cheek in bored observation.

"I know we're not experts in this sort of thing but if they don't start paying attention to each other and not just their target, he's probably going to end up using their movements against them... Numbers won't work if the group has no coordination." The words were vocalized loud enough for anyone nearby to hear him and he definitely hadn't bothered to pull away from the main group so there should be plenty of ears nearby to have heard it. Probably not the teacher but definitely the students around the speaker's general vicinity.

"I'm conflicted. Group fighting does lend confidence but it can also lead to self sabotage when a non-coordinated group starts fighting each other because of the target's movements. It makes me wonder why they're running it this way."

Kynik looks up in thought, eyes tracing the ceiling while fingers scratched at the back of his head. "I did help raise a horse during my 15th year after a colt decided he couldn't get enough of me so I suppose I do have a pet back at home." He contemplates this, the hands falling from their hair touching position to be held slightly outward. "He's pretty big now, a good rider. However, I wasn't allowed to bring him here with me. I'm not sure if it was the school's word or my Father's. I'm just hoping my sister remembers to give him some extra pats for me every once in a while."

"I'm sorry to disappoint on that front but if you have any I could meet, I'd be up for that as well." He turns his head watching another student introduce themselves at the front of the class before turning back to Juzi.

Despite their conversation, he was definitely still trying to put names to faces the best he could as long as students were willing to put themselves up there. It'd likely make a better impression to have already remembered someone's name.

Then brown haired boy chuckled at her remark about embarrassment. "Ah, with that one I have definitely had my fair share. But the important thing is to understand that it's only in the moment. Nobody is perfect after all. But many will strive for it."

He watched as she studied him, maybe to put a visual memory to the name she had asked to confirm. That was his guess. Hearing the question he nodded. "Yeah, I'm Kynik. I believe you said you were Juzi?" He answered seeming to play with the mouthfeel of the word. "It's a pretty name, I like how the Zi sound buzzes off the teeth. I'll be sure to remember it in the future."

Not long after his go it seemed the girl who'd taken the seat next to him made her way up to the front. As Juzi made her way back, Kynik stands up and offers her a hand to shake, his face beaming. "You did well up there. Public speaking always sucks as it means to put ones self in front of many judging eyes."

He shakes his head slightly in remembrance of all the times he father had made him 'practice' with a live audience of the knights at home. He'd been punished if he'd spoken informally or incorrectly. His expression had changed slightly but faded back to his normal one when he went back to focusing on the girl instead of being distracted by thought.

If the hand wasn't shaken he would withdraw it. The boy paused watching another speaker present themselves at the front, head turning towards them. When the student had finished speaking he turned attention back to Juzi. "I hope you don't mind me speaking to you. I wished to greet you personally since we were already sitting nearby. "

As the students were working to talk amongst themselves and subtle individual introductions were made, Kynik's attention turned back towards the front of the class, a student having taken the stage with the speech amplifying magical device.

The boy had introduced himself as Sampton and a fellow student followed after.
Oh is that what they wanted us to do? It sure seemed like it. It was forward but made much more sense than the trickling of words. Kynik placed both hands on the ledge in front of him, most weight supported by his left as he lifted himself out of his chair after Tien had left the podium.

Why not? The best way to make connections is to put your name out there afterall and what better way to do that then something like this. The student walked his way to the front with a confident gait, taking a few moments to check out the small cylinder. It was definitely powered by magic though he wouldn't tell what exactly that was. He too, would tap the device hoping it didn't need anything to activate it and gave a wide wave to the audience of students before him.

"Salutations! I am named Kynik Kuffer, you all may call me Kynik. I am not gifted in the way of Arcana so I come here as learner of the sword and plan to become the strongest knight that I can. I extend my hand to my new acquaintances, if you have anything to ask of me, just ask. I am not afraid to offer help to those who need it. May our time here be one filled with companionship, fulfillment and achievements worthy of the word pride."

The 18 year old gazes into the audience, studying the reactions of his peers before pulling away with a grin. He'll make his way to his seat so the next student could take his place.

Kynik sat, arms folded over the surface in front of him, watching the professor go over the rules. His mind would drift for a few moments at a time while attempting to stay focused but... He was sure he caught most of it. Most of it just seemed to generally be common sense, other than the rule forbidden the use of external ranks. He yawned covering his mouth and goes back to leaning on his left arm, chin in hand.

From the moment a rank system was mentioned, Kynik sprang to full attention, entirely in focus.
You can increase your ranks through achievements, top scores, ect.
At this point he would visibly perk up, maybe even looking less drowsy than he did before despite his pale exterior. Ranks? An achievement to earn through achievement? This pleased... No excited him. He was already planning to try his hardest to graduate with high marks but this? This was an extra tasty treat that just got dangled before him.

Even his form sat a little straighter, eyes boring into the teacher with an exuberance prevalent on his face. He wasn't going to attempt to hide it. This was a way to prove himself even without magic.

His eyes would glance around the class, especially at the students nearby to him. If eyes were met, he would give a friendly wave and introduce himself if they were near enough.

Having jogged all the way to infirmary, Kynik stopped for a moment at the door and clapped his hands over his cheeks a few times. Maybe it was the cold wind coming off the lake but his nose felt numb. It was better to get the blood flowing in the face anyways. Shouldn't it already have from the run though?

He glances at a nearby clock once inside. If this took too long he might end up late to class. A breath of air escaped his nostrils but he'd check in, let the nurse do her thing, listen to her yammering, probably something about avoiding reopening the wounds, and potentially a few joking remarks before being sent on his way.

No good, not enough time to change completely. The student makes his way back to the male dorms, stopping in to grab an outer top from a spare uniform in his bedroom and sprints towards the main academy's building. His pants were still dirty but the outer top would at least cover the stains and tears on the undershirt from this morning's exam. This would be fine, most of it would be hidden and people were supposed to pay attention to the teacher anyways.

He'd likely be one of the last to arrive, though just barely on time. Pale in the face from already exerting so much effort so early in the day with limited resources, he glances around to find a spare seat and sits himself quietly.

The male student looks up at yet another announcement for what to do after breakfast. It seemed they'd be starting classes fairly soon and they would all need to wait in the dorms after breakfast. "Well I certainly hope that waiting in the dorm thing doesn't ban a trip to the Infirmary." He says rotating the injured shoulder, still an exposed wound but now lacking the steady stream of ichor from before. Kynik shoves another mouthful in an attempt to finish off the plate he'd taken.

Bacon, left for last on the plate, had to be consumed before he could stand. This wouldn't take much effort.
"Pardon me, then. I have somewhere to be before our classes start today" He excuses and lifts himself from the table, giving an offhanded wave and trots his way down the hill towards the lake. It would almost triple the intended walk distance to go from the shrine to the infirmary and then back to the dorms but as tired as he already was for the day, Kynik was determined.

It would be better, afterall, to get the claw marks looked at instead of letting them get infected.

He spun on his heels, hoping his stamina would hold out. Did he really loose that much fluids? Kynik wasn't exactly sure but that woozy feeling was still lingering even after breakfast. He pauses at the lake, looking out towards the bridge at its far side and groans before continuing.

Kynik grumbles to himself, fork slowly picking apart the food on his plate. He pushes at an egg, the yellow liquid of the yolk breaking free and leaking into the rest of his gatherings. The whites were consumed, a piece of toast being used to soak up the yolks to be ignored in the moment while he glances to his side at the others sitting at the same table.

The table was definitely busy. Students had made their way back from the forest after the call and had started settling down into the meal after the unsuccessful exam. Mouths were busy but there wasn't much talking to be had it seemed. The 18 year old looked down, forking the yolk soaked toast, stuffing it wholly into his mouth without hesitation.

The student stood in dismay, still carrying the very large once magical black feline in his arms; His questions had been ignored.

Kynik bites his lip in a grimace watching the principal walk away to follow the female student who had decidedly made her way over to the table and another student. A conversation of mimics had followed, much to his superiors dislike and breakfast was now called.

He waits a few minutes, the cheerful yet pained grin dropping into a frown of distaste. How in the world did he not hear or notice me? He furrows his brows, attention still solely focused on the educator. He continued to keep his thoughts to himself, the brows unfurrowing. He couldn't stay mad, he was too tired for that. As much as I wouldn't mind more practice with fighting beasts... I just wish there would have been some form of acknowledgement. I still killed one of the magic ones and brought it back before they ended it early.

Kynik sighs and moves over to the side, dropping the dead panther directly on the shrine. Someone would find it. The black pelt wasn't exactly good at hiding when out in the open like this. He wasn't exactly given permission to leave either so a nurse's visit would have to wait... and so would his ripped and stained clothes.

Fatigue was also starting to catch up to the 18 year old. Between the fight, the fluid loss and the long drag back, he was worn out and would likely continue to do so as the dripping continued. He sits down stubbornly at one of the tables to the side, complying with the student body being told to have their fill of breakfast. He fills a plate, picking at it slowly.

Mimics? Kynik looked towards the teachers who seemed to be talking to a female mage student. Well that was at least one thing confirmed. It wasn't that the challenge time had run over, it was that something dangerous had happened and students were being removed from it.

He picks himself up from the ground and turned towards the predator turned prey lifting it to his chest held butt to front much like an overly large dog being carried. He makes his way over towards the Principal, watching the Mage & Knight teachers go back into the forest. The man grunts in slight pain, shifting the weight in his arms.

"Principal, Sir, I understand the examination is over." Kynik starts, trying to get the principal's attention before shifting the heavy body again. "But what do we do with the beasts we've killed?" He locks his fingers together to prevent them from slipping. "I think this one had a dark affinity, it was using some form of magic to turn into a shadow of sorts and slip around for a sneakier advantage so it was hard to keep an eye on."

He uses a knee to push the beast back up into a easier to hold position trying to be careful not to fall over as the large cat weighed about the same as himself. "Also, may I be excused? It hooked me with its claws and I'm sure an exposed slash wound isn't exactly a good idea."

It wasn't entirely what he wanted. Despite his calm demeanor the wound itself was also still bleeding, the occasional sound of splats being heard on the grass whenever it dripped. The flow wasn't nearly as heavy as before but it still hurt quite a bit. He wasn't going to admit to this though. The student still showed other signs of the previous battle, splatters of blood on his lower face, a pool from where it had dripped mostly covered up by the beast on his chest and his hands were most certainly still red. He awkwardly stood, wishing for a sponge and hoping for dismissal.

"I can stay to help if wanted but I just need to know where to put this or how to get it confirmed so I don't have to retake the examination unnecessarily."

The shrine was just ahead, he could see it through the trees in the distance. Kynik bent down changing his grasp on the beast from its nape to trying to once again deadlift it. Maybe he wanted to seem like a hotshot or maybe he was confident he wouldn't need a free hand as there shouldn't be anything this close to the shrine that would put himself in danger. Either way after a couple of attempts to get it into the air, Kynik lifted the large black cat over his shoulders, confidently walking forwards. It was a little lighter now, maybe by only a few pounds but it had helped that any excess fluids had drained from the magical animal on the drag here.

The student emerges from the bushes, large beast as a makeshift shawl, stepping into the clearing where the shrine was. He'd look around. Surely he'd taken more time than this, it had felt like it had taken forever to lug this thing all the way back. There didn't seem to be many students who'd made it back yet though. He'd glance at the sky with this thought as the signal rang out for students to return. Wait what? Was it over? Or were they canceling early?

The brown haired man really had no idea unless more information was given. He'd need to check a clock at the academy to be certain if nobody confirmed it on the way back. He makes his way closer to the shrine itself before lugging the puma off his shoulders, dropping it on the ground and sits next to it, waiting for more students to return.

Well? Kynik could certainly take a break now. They did say they'd be getting breakfast after all this.
He sits waiting, waving to any other students that pass nearby enough to get his attention.

Rolling the now dead beast to the side, Kynik sits up, pulling the blade from the death blow of a stab wound. He gives it a flick, flinching at the stinging pain in his right shoulder now coming to notice after the adrenaline had run its course. "...If every exam is going to be like this, I'm going to need a lot more practice against non-humans." He hisses wiping the remaining stain from the metal on some nearby grasses before depositing it back into its sheath.

He approaches a lift, stabling himself on all fours before pulling into a stand and grunts looking down at the beast whos dark affinity had given it the advantage of surprise. "I suppose we might need proof so..." He brushes a nose to his sleeve, trying to wipe off some of the ichor that had dripped down on him and makes a few repeated attempts to deadlift the beast.

The scratch in his shoulder however was hinderance enough that carrying this thing, as heavy as it was for any long length of time would probably prove to be a problem. The swordsman would end up settling, dragging the body by its scruff a few minutes at a time towards the direction of the shrine.

He would pause, surveying the direction he was walking, hoping not to run into anything else just as troublesome but the trees were at least starting the thin out.

Movement, watch for movement.

Kynik's eyes flickered, darting between the different shadows looking for the darkest one. Right... No, left.
He twists on his heels, following the subtle movement of the cat that had taken to hiding.

Now forward - The mist of shadow magic sprung from the ground, the beast once again taking a harmful form as it attempt one last pounce. He felt the stinging heat as claws met flesh, the sword in both hands being thrusted upwards as the duo landed on the ground, a darker form covering the body of the student.

He looked upwards, panting. The sharp blade had met its mark, stabbing upwards through its throat, meeting the base of the skull. Red dripped down painting his hands and shirt as the animal struggled few moments more, paralyzed. Kynik himself would take a short bit in rest, stuck under the beast, stunned into soaking up the recent situation.

"Fighting a beast... really is... different from fighting a person." He pants trying to roll the 180lb creature off of himself.

The black beast had steadied itself well after the first initial failure, prowling in a circle around the now aware and guarded prey. Small beaded tan-yellow eyes glared back from the depths of fur, letting loose a snarl.

Kynik kept his footing, holding sword to his front, attention turned on the creature as it suddenly sank into the ground, a shadow of what it once was quickly traveling along the ground to his backside. He turned once again as it sprang a second time, this time leaping down from a tree. Claws hit metal again, the beast emitting a yowl of frustration prompted by the glancing blade catching flesh.

The man jumped back, then parried forward thrusting towards the creature's face just as it sunk into the ground again. A miss.
The next sweep was aimed down, glancing off the ground where the shadow had intended to travel and it hisses, a seeping wound to its right shoulder appearing on the shimmering form as it stood its ground in full. Though shadowed, it must have hit proper that time to have left such a mark.

Circling around, one paw placed at a time, it leaps once again, batting the ready sword to the side. But this time Kynik was ready and jumped back before the second paw could make its mark.
Aiming for the head a second time, he thrusts foreward, hitting the target's shadow right before it could move. A loud screeching yowl of anger is heard, the shadow traveling along its path in the tall grasses while the "prey" kept a wary eye, waiting for it to pop up again.

Deeper, go deeper.

Not wanting to tangle with electrocution, Kynik sneaks away from the porcupine-like creature to make his way deeper into the forest. Nearby, the trees were growing denser, the space between trees becoming thinner.

It would take a few minutes before the boy realized an unease had settled over him that had started near the last creature he had seen. He pauses, back against a tree, taking a look at his surroundings. Everything certainly seemed normal.

A little further on, he kneels in a sparse clearing, noting the cloven hoofprint left behind in a bit of hardened mud. This was likely an old track, kicked up shortly after the weather a while ago. He furrows his brow in frustration standing up. "It's almost like they purposely sent us in here without explaining how to find these things because they expect them to find us instead." The swordsman mumbles to himself, the unease settling in once again causing him to grip the handle of his sheathed sword in one hand.

He freezes, a jolted feeling washing over as he reacted, pulling the blade from its leather hold and swinging the arc upwards behind him. It would come to connect with the claws of a black beast midpounce, leaving it to bounce off towards the ground and causing a shift in Kynik's weight with a small stumble before he turned towards it.

Today just seems to be quieter. Most of the students seemed to be slamming their drinks and running off while others weren't so quick to choose or even fewer just wanted to try everything.

Kynik swirled his glass in thought, finishing it off. This feat was honestly pretty quickly accomplished but 5 minutes out of 60 is too much time spent idling when he could be working. He sets a hand on the handle of his chosen blade, a favorite brought from home that had been gifted to him from one the house's knights he'd trained in footwork with. Not wanting to dilly dally, the man takes off in a slow jog, starting to make his way into the forest.

Tracking in general definitely wasn't something he had experience in. Had he known you could look for broken plants, brief scratches or disturbed fallen goods it probably would make it easier. However, a lack in knowledge of the skill would limit his thoughts to footprints... Not that this was an area suitable to producing them.

Hearing a sound though near a clearing, the boy squats his way through a bush, peeping out.

Up ahead, chewing on the soft berries of a different kind of bush seemed to be some form of... What could only be described as a porcupine-like beast, a soft rounded head with long quills sticking out of the rest of it. A quick glance might have made the mistake but this was a lot bigger and definitely not the same. He was slow to draw his blade, continuing to watch the unfamiliar creature unless another rustling sound drew both of their attentions. The source of noise did not reveal itself, however the beast had flared its quills in reaction, sparks of electricity arcing between the long spikes.

Kynik hesitated. He wasn't quite sure what kind of mana that belonged to, maybe energy? But electricity and a sword really didn't mix well. It would be best to sneak away and find a new target.

Kynik had followed the line up to the hill.

Looking towards the tables of liquid at the behest of the professor, the boy looked on in chagrin. They were to be instructed to drink their bellies full and then defeat a beast... He shook his head scouring the table with his eyes. Perhaps it was a trap? Too much liquid would slow the body down, causing the awkward sloshing feeling with every step for the next half hour... But not enough input of energy would leave one prone to sluggishness anyways.

Tea? No, without enough sugar, on it's own that was a bad idea... Wait.

The concoction to follow was fairly simple. The glass was filled with a mango juice. He swirled this around, pouring in a black tea accompaniment to about 1/4th. Black tea was known for its properties in providing a good morning boost and the mango had a high energy content by itself which would help to sustain it. He was fairly confident this would at least help enough to retain the energy needed for running around for the full hour.

He stands near the tables, sipping on the fruity mixed brew. Kynik wasn't exactly sure what his classmates would do but would remain for a short while to potentially easedrop on nearby conversation or get into one himself, to see what others plans were for tracking down a beast to fulfill their requirements.
