Maverick Ashenfall

~"Sanity is a madness put to good uses." (-George Santayana)~

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Personality: Maverick normally doesn't take anything seriously. Most would think that there is not a single intelligent thought in his mind due to the way he acts. He can be very bold and daring, seemingly acting on impulse. His insane personality tends to drive people away for fear they'll be roped into something dangerous. At the end of the day though, Maverick is extremely caring. He just has a horrible way of showing it. He can be extremely loyal-- when he takes the time to make an effort and show it. Befriend Maverick, and you'll have a strong and worthy friend. Get on his bad side and... well, let's hope you don't find out for yourself.

Appearance: Maverick has long lengths of unruly silver and electric blue hair. His eyes are mismatched from a freak lab accident. His eyes are green and grey, with his grey eye having slightly worse vision than his green one. Maverick usually has his hair tied back as to not get in the way. He wears jeans, boots, and a graphic t-shirt. He is pretty short, standing at 5'3.

Fears: The death or rejection of science and knowledge... He also isn't a fan of clowns

Backstory: Maverick loves science. Before he appeared in this world, he would spend his days working in labs. He took as many science classes as possible and even worked as an assistant after school. That's how he got involved in an accident that permanently ruined the vision in his left eye... You would think someone as smart as him would know better than to drip chemicals into his eye- but in his defense, he was certain that he made a potion that would allow him to see in the dark

Passsord: ALL HAIL THE GLOW CLOUD

Palpad: Yes please

Hello there! Welcome to Pokeheroes!

The best way to earn money is by interacting. I would recommend putting on a good movie or show and interact while watching it. You could also get eggs from Professor Rowan's lab and sell the pokemon that hatch out of those eggs for a small amount of cash- (if you get lucky, you can get a legendary pokemon that sells for a lot, but I wouldn't recommend selling it).

Rumbling is also a great way to make money. The mystery items you can obtain from Rumbling sells for a fair amount of cash. You can also open mystery boxes by having the same color key. If you're lucky, you can get a rare item that sells for a lot, otherwise you can keep it to get a legendary poke.

The only sign Dakota gave that she heard Avery was a sudden tension that appeared in her back and jaw. She slowly straightens up. Turning towards the door to gaze at it cautiously before returning her gaze to Avery. Multiple questions flared through her head. How will you do it without being caught? Why are you doing it? What will happen if you do that? Still, Dakota couldn't help but be intrigued.

An amused smile appears onto her face. "Is there anything I can do to help?" She asks boldly, but she is careful to keep her voice low in case a Nanny was nearby. Feeling braver, she continues. "I've always wondered what the outside world was like. I can't explain it, but something about being here always felt... Strange" she practically whispers these words, knowing the danger behind them. Again, she glances towards the door anxiously again, a gesture that was very unlike her.

The sound of a door opening in the distance grabbed Kara's attention. While she was unable to turn towards the sound or properly focus on it, she still tried to anticipate who it was and what they were doing. She was eerily aware of voices, but she could only pick out a few words. Ordered, awake, interesting, mother. Kara is only able to blink when she feels cold electrodes being placed onto her temples. The cold sensation snaps her awake for a split second, before the wonderful, calming waves take over again. Sorry, hurt the voice says before a shocking sensation tears through her head.

Kara is aware of a loud screeching sound, but she couldn't be certain if it was her own screams or the sound of the machine. So this is my fate? A forced aneurism? Kara wonders as the sensation intensifies. She could've swore that either her brain, or eyeballs would explode at any moment.

But as soon as it started, it ended. Kara was dimly aware of her heart hammering into her chest. She feels a needle prick her arm. A satisfyingly cool sensation hits her veins. But she doesn't have time to enjoy the feeling, because a second needle prick finally knocks her out.

Time seems to rapidly fly by. Kara remembers the train and the parade. She remembers being almost like a statue. Emotionless, unresponsive. But the spell seemed to break when she entered her room. But she was offered no privacy, as she could see into other tributes rooms. She was also aware that the boy from her district was also placed into her room.

He, like her, was in a zombie-like state and was moving slow. Too slow apparently, because the Peacekeeper has shoved him inside and seemed to be about to hit the boy with his club. "Stop!" She demanded. The Peacekeeper stopped short, even dropped the club as he seemed to mimic her outstretched hand. He blinks, then picks up the club and slaps her across the face before walking out, muttering something she didn't have the energy to pick up on. She bears her teeth, glaring at him before helping her fellow tribute onto a spare cot. She was confused by the turn of events, but it would have to wait. Man, her head was pounding. She winces holding her head and laying down on her own cot.

A surprised yelp sounds from Dakota when she was abruptly rushed into the room. She quiets down quickly though, so that she can listen to Avery. A small, but growing smile appearing on her face as Avery excitedly explains what she was doing. "So that's it. Any questions?" Avery asks her.

An intrigued look appears on Dakota's face and she shakes her head no. But the slight moment of silence causes an uncertain look to appear on her face and she quietly asks: "So what is that for?" She points to the catapult and leans over it to get a better look.

Laughing at Cath's comment, Nox tells the woman: "It's only fair that I give you one of my safe houses after what happened." She trails off, suddenly feeling awkward.

A warm feeling hits Nox at mention of the group asking to help. That's right, she wasn't a loner anymore. She could rely on them for help. "Why don't you guys do the hunting? And work on setting traps? Safeguard this place as much as possible. I'll be back" she promises. "Take care of them Neo!" She calls out while walking away.
.
.
.

A familiar feeling seemed to follow Nox as she walked away from the safe house. She was being followed. But she didn't know by what, or who. Lower class demons were sloppy, they made lots of mistakes. If it were a demon, she would know by now. Was it someone in the group?

She ignores the feeling for awhile. Focusing on walking in random directions. She pauses once to throw her dagger at a sparrow. She sighs, feeling pity towards it. But she had to hold their lives over it. She shivers, feeling the familar feeling again. Who could be following her?

Oh... I see. A small smile rests on her lips and a muffled chuckle sounds from her. It was the only sign she gave that would tell Mei that she knew she was being followed by her. She didn't point it out though. Nox assumed the woman would reveal herself when she was ready. Besides, she had work to do. She continues walking, trying to do her best to ignore Mei.

All of this chatter was pointless. The stakes couldn't be higher for the group. Well, everyone expect for Sobble. Was it really worth getting to know everyone if they could easily be slaughtered by a demon or betrayed by a Resistance Member?

Nox sighs, shaking her head. She's been out in the field for too long. The need for human interaction was necessary. She shouldn't be so negative. She glances at Neo, half wondering what he was thinking. He was a Demon Hunter just like her, he also had been isolated. Did he feel the same? The size of the group was worrisome. They could easily be tracked with how gathered together they were. She would have to deal with that...

.
.

"We're here." Nox says after a few hours of walking. She extends a hand out towards the abandoned office building, smiling a slightly embarrassed grin, which of course, was hidden under her mask. "Make yourselves at home. There aren't many rooms so do try to get along okay? We're going to be closely gathered together for the time being." She takes a few steps away from the group. "I'm going to hunt while you guys figure out our next step."

This was a half lie. She would come back with food. But in all reality, she wanted to scatter the scents. She would kill some small prey and walk around aimlessly. Mixing together the scent of death as well as her own far from their temporary base. Would it trick the demons pursuing them? Probably not, but any lower class demon would likely fall for it. They would try to track the lone Hunter before attacking the pack, only to get confused by the random trail. Buying the group necessary time. This is what she was good at.

She sighs, already exhausted from the long walk to get here. But her job was almost done. She pauses before leaving, but only to see how the group would react.

Looking far more serious, Dakota nods. "I swear I won't tell a soul!" Dakota promises. She glances around, suddenly feeling paranoid herself. She glanced down the hallway, suddenly nervous that a Nanny would approach the hallway. She tries to hide her sudden unease when she turns back to face Avery again. "So, what are you working on?" She asks casually.

Ignoring Neo's compliants, Nox continues to move forward, staying quiet until she hears Neo ask her a question. "I told you before, I have have these lands memorized by heart. Right now, we need supplies and numbers. In order to do that, we'll likely have to infiltrate another Resistance base... We can plan that out later. In the meantime we'll need somewhere to stay, as to not be out in the open. I know of a place we can stay. It's far... Far enough to put distance between ourselves and the demons, but it's still only a day's walk away. So it won't be a good permeant option" Nox explains to Neo. "But it'll be good enough... Until we think of a real plan."

Nox quiets down again, glancing behind her for a moment to look at the others. They seemed to be following her without any trouble, but they also seemed to be lost in their own thoughts. Expect for the kid- Sobble was his name. "I'm a demon hunter" she responds. "What about you kid? How have you managed to survive for this long?"
...

Aster waves away Grimm's offer, deciding that it was far more entertaining to follow Belphi. He glances towards the scent of smoke and then glances back at Belphi with a confused look. His instincts demanded to charge towards the building, what was Belphi doing?

Aster shrugs and decides to follow Belphi without question. If it lead them further away then he could get the opportunity to scold the wiser demon. How fun!

Slowing his faster pace so that he can match Belphi's speed, Aster leans out to glance at Belphi. "What do you think they are planning oh great one?" Aster asks while chuckling. He tried to play it off, but deep down, he was truly curious. What did Belphi know?

Avery's panicked reaction was clear, even if Dakota couldn't see it from behind the door. She chuckles at Avery's lame excuse. "Oh? I didn't realize these hallways and your dorm was the lunchroom." She rests a head against the wall and turns her head slightly so that her face was pointed towards Avery's closed door. "What are you working on now?" She asks. "I'll cut you a deal. You show me what you're doing and I'll keep quiet about your absence from lunch." She winces, realizing just how threatening she sounded. "I brought food" she adds, glancing down at her armful of fruit and snacks.

A sense of coolness seems to flood into the room when a familiar girl enters the lunchroom. She was older, her gaze sharper than most. She scans the faces of her peers, obviously looking for someone specific. She was both incredibly rebellious and incredibly compliance with the orders from the Nannies, her sense of unpredictability often alienated her from the rest. Already, she could see one of the nannies whizzing around nearby. It's lifeless gaze holds hers for a moment before turning away.

She moves deeper into the room, closest to the center. Her jacket flapping behind her like a cape while she moves. She refuses to wear it correctly, possibly another sense of rebellion. Unlike with Avery, she didn't need to see a picturebook to sense that something was odd. But she could never place a finger on what that was. This was her life, it always has been, so what was so strange to her?

A voice calls her name, stopping her in her tracks. She turns around, eyeing a girl her age who was sitting with a large group of friends. The girl excitedly points to an empty seat next to her with hopeful eyes. Dakota forces a smile onto her lips. "No thanks" she tells the girl. "I'm not hungry." She continues her pursuit towards the back of the lunchroom where she grabs some food.

Nearby, she catches a younger girl sitting alone. Dakota immediately recognized her as a mute who seemed to be a target for bullying. She fixes her gaze on Kaori with a sympathetic look before tearing her eyes away to sneak out of the lunchroom.

She had work to do. There was someone she was meaning to talk to. A girl named Avery, who shared a similar fascination with her into understanding the outside world. Dakota knocks on her door, then leans against the doorway. "Skipping out on lunch again?" Dakota asks in amusement.

Lowering his hand from his face, Aster's eyes fall on Grimm, who had silently rejoined the two. He yelps in surprise and throws his hands up, ready to defend himself. He gives her a tight, embarrassed smile and lowers his hands to awkwardly wave at her. "Belphi! Grimm is back!" He points out excitedly while quickly racing behind the tired demon. It was almost amazing how unaware Aster was of Belphi's exhaustion. He was excitedly racing ahead, only to return back to Belphi before his demeanor suddenly changed.

Just like that, the mental switch in his mind flipped, and he was reminded of the hunt. He may not be able to find his prey anymore, but he could certainly track down the destroyed base. From there, he could likely track them. It would be a slow hunt, but the hunt would still be enjoyable. He licks his fangs, already anticipating the delicious taste of blood this hunt would bring. He had almost forgotten how excited he was to taste the prey in this realm. "Yes, let's" he says in reply to Belphi, his voice sounding far more darker and serious.
...

"Tsk" Nox could smell the distinct smell of cigarette smoke behind her. Did Neo take her for a fool? She pauses her pursuit, but only to pluck the lit cigarette from his hands and stomp it into the dirt underneath her boot. After, she turns around and continues to lead the group forward. "If you are looking for something to do, why don't you come out of retirement and help me keep watch for demons?" Nox asks Neo.

Now that they were moving, Nox found that she could calm down a bit. They were finally putting distance between themselves and the demons. But she couldn't calm down fully. They could easily catch up, they also weren't the only threat out here.

Nox decides to take the lead. Since nobody mentioned going to a specific place, she decides to lead them to one of her 'safe houses.' The closest one being an old office building. It was small, it only had the lobby, a bathroom, and three offices, but it would be enough. It was far better than sleeping out in the open. She had managed to store some supplies in there, but it wouldn't be enough for a group of this size. Still, it was better than nothing.

She unsheathes her katanas and tries to ignore the chatter behind her so she can be alert for signs of danger. But at the mention of names she simply turns around and introduces herself as 'Nox.' Unlike with the others, Sobble doesn't get the luxury of knowing her real name.

She didn't exactly distrust the boy. But she had to admit, she was curious about how he managed to survive and stay optimistic. Whatever, she would leave that task to Cath. She had a promise to keep afterall- ensure that Cath stays alive, she intended to focus on that duty.

Lifting her chin up, Nox narrows her eyes at both the boy and his strange feline companion. Everyone raised great points, but they would have to come to a final decision soon. The sooner they left the area, the better.

"If the kid doesn't slow us down, he can join us" she says coldly. Who was she kidding? Of course she wanted the kid to join them. It was astonishing someone so young survived on their own this long. You can't protect everyone a voice reminds her.

"As for your cat" she removes a katana and thrusts the blade downward so it was pointing towards the cat. "Whatever it is, you better keep it under control. My patience is quickly beginning to wear thin, the moment that thing becomes a threat..." She clenches her teeth and says nothing. They can piece it together anyway.

As for Neo, she glances at him with a slightly bemused expression. "What's the point of having them if they don't light? Don't be foolish Neo, not only are they harmful to your health they'll only make us easier to track. Give them to Athena" she scolds while glaring at him through the corner of her eye.

She sheaves her katana and steps to the back of the group. Glancing at Mei as she passes with a concerned look. She really didn't like her sudden inattention. What did she know? Nox glances around, suddenly sharing her paranoia.

A disappointed look fills Aster's eyes as he watches the younger demon leave. He liked the other demon, she was bold, just like him, she would be a great asset. Still, the two of them could handle this mission. Aster's eyes practically light up upon receiving praise from the more intelligent demon. He doesn't even grasp the backhanded comment that was mixed within Belphi's words.

"Guerrilla warfare? I have no idea what that is, but it sounds like fun!" Aster says while jumping up and down excitedly. His eyes quite literally darken as a more primal instincts kicks in, but the feeling vanishes quickly when the sunlight harshly attacks his eyesight. He slaps a hand over his eyes and points towards where the explosion took place. "Why don't you sound more excited? This'll be fun!" Aster shouts while blindly taking a step in the wrong direction.

The bickering was incredibly entertaining to Aster. But his amused grin turns into an embarrassed one when Belphi speaks to him. "Hmm, how did you know I was planning on running in blind?" Aster grumbles. "That scientist woman? Ah... Now that you mention it, I did see a woman who looked sciencey. I wonder if she was behind that explosion earlier. You're right. She is likely to be protected. It's not everyday you meet someone who can easily take down two demons such as ourselves" he says proudly, even though there wasn't much reason to be. He adjusts his tie and grins, not looking even the slightest bit embarrassed to be taken down by a single human twice.

He taps his chin thoughtfully. "Our best bet would be to attack at night, but that purple haired brat might be a problem. Perhaps we should stalk them and attack them when they are most weak? Peaky humans can't possibly survive on their own out here!" Aster gazes at Belphi with hopeful eyes. Give the demon some credit, this was probably his most put together plan he has created in centuries.

The large explosion sounds across the lands. Perhaps it was was Aster's sensitive hearing that allowed him to pick up on it, or it was the fact that he was already focusing on that one area, maybe it was a combination of both. But when he hears the explosion, he yelps and kneels down and covers his ears.

With his teeth clenched he glances towards where he knew the explosion came from. Something was wrong though. The scent seemed to have totally vanished. "Someone in that group is thinking ahead" he growls. "We must exterminate them. They are ruining our fun!" Aster whines. "Hmph, it's no loss" he says while standing up. "We'll just have to follow the scent of smoke and hope we can pick up a trail." He glances back at both Belphi and Grimm with a bemused expression. "Let's get going, I hope you can keep up Belphi"
...

Nox couldn't help but feel bad for Mei. One thing that was clear about Mei was the fact that she genuinely cared for Cerberus. She couldn't imagine how the girl felt about the dog being afraid of her. She pats Cerberus, trying to calm him down for Mei. She tries to shoot Mei a sympathetic look. But it vanishes when Mei asks the group a question.

"That would be our best bet. We should make sure this guy isn't dangerous" she replies. She stands up and leads the way, pausing only to make sure the group is following before continuing forward towards Sobble. [I am gonna be busy so someone else can lead this interaction ;w;]

Mei's answers only brought more confusion. She mostly ignored the stuff she did know, like Mei's past. But the stuff about her powers intrigued Nox. The way both Cath and Mei spoke of it, it would appear that Mei didn't have full control of it, because Cath somehow was able to find it, and a few other people. So what was it? Some sort of in-between? Her frown falters when Mei answers the final question.

"I can answer that" Nox tells Cath softly. "There is only one way to kill a demon, you must cut it's head off. I'm sure you know that they are able to heal themselves impossibly quick. But they can also recover from what should be fatal wounds with surprising ease. You want to ensure one stays dead? Go for the head... I suppose a well placed stab to the heart could work too" Nox explains.

She shifts her feet now that they stopped, petting Cerberus while she analyzes the area. Like Cath and Mei, she almost immediately spots the strange boy with his cat. She narrows her eyes but doesn't bother going for a weapon. She has her suspicions, but the boy didn't look demonic. She was more worried about how Cerberus would react upon seeing the cat. She continues to hold the dog's attention, not wanting to find out.
...

For a demon that was an expert in hunting, and was far stronger than he usually showed, Aster looked quite horrified to see Grimm tossing Belphi into the air. Did Grimm realize that she was quite literally tossing a ticking time bomb into the air? A toothy smile appears on his face. He liked her boldness. She would be fun to hunt with. Poor Belphi.

A crazed laugh bursts out of Aster when he is hit with how humorous this whole thing was. He was practically giggling like a child but his smile vanishes quickly. He stands up, looking far more serious now, and turns around to face his prey's direction. They are moving? So soon?

Nox grins under her mask. She liked Cath, she had the ability to take charge and lead the group. She was also able to keep everyone under control. It only gave her more of a need to protect her. Without Cath, the group, and everything they were willing to fight for would be destroyed.

She nods and follows Cath out the door. An amused look flickering in her eyes to see how genuinely excited Mei got at the mention of blowing up the facility. She wasn't sure if her demeanor before was an act or not, but this behavior was a nice change of pace. She sticks close to the pair, only stopping for a moment to glance back at Athena to make sure the younger girl was still following.
