It was an extremely chilly evening, snow falling ever so delicately outside of Piper and Bucky’s house. Christmas was right around the corner, tomorrow morning to be exact, and Bucky couldn’t be any more enthralled than he already was. This was his first Christmas since he was the Winter Soldier, and he was delighted to be spending the holidays with the ones he loved; including his wife, Piper. He was intrigued with all these new Christmas festivities, like Elf on a Shelf. That definitely wasn’t around back in the olden days. There were a plethora of activities that Bucky could partake in, such as Tony’s annual Christmas party, Thor’s Christmas feast up in Asgard, the gift exchanges T’Challa was running back in his home country, Wakanda, and there were many other things Bucky could do; all he wanted to do, however, was spend time with his wife. Bucky was laying on his side on the couch, listening to his wife hum to herself in the kitchen. It was the typical winter and Christmas Eve night, cold and snowy. It wasn’t much of a let down for Piper and Bucky though, because they had spent all day playing in the snow. The cold wasn’t an inconvenience for them at all, they enjoyed the snow and the freezing temperatures; as bizarre as that sounds. Once they returned back in their humble abode, Piper started making hot chocolate, which required a secret recipe that her mom used back when she was little. What…? You want to know the recipe? Well, it wouldn’t be much of a secret if she told you the recipe, now would it? Carrying on… Bucky sat upright on the couch, glancing over his shoulder to examine what Piper was doing in the kitchen. She was stirring the pot of hot chocolate that was boiling over the stove on low heat, making sure all of the cocoa powder dissolved into the milk. Bucky got up, sauntering into the kitchen to bother his wife. He snaked his arms around her waist, resting his chin in the crook of her neck, humming a catchy Christmas tune.
“Whatcha up to, babe?” he smirked as Piper giggled lightly. She swirled the wooden spoon in a circular motion in the pot, reassuring herself that all the chocolate powder was completely dissolved. Bucky released his grip on his wife, and turned around, facing the boombox that stood on top of the microwave. Tony gave that to Piper for her 98th birthday, hoping that she would find a better use of it. She quickly learned how to operate a boombox, after spending countless nights attempting to figure out how it worked. Piper wasn’t all that tech-savvy, like her nephew; but since she was around him quite often she acknowledged the power of technology pretty fast. Bucky scoured through the stacks of CD’s that stood next to the microwave, most of the CD’s were Frank Sinatra albums. Bucky smiled when he found a Frank Sinatra Christmas album, picking it up and blowing off the tiny amount of dust that began collecting on the plastic CD case. Bucky pried the CD case open, slipping the CD into the boombox. He pressed the play button and turned the volume up by turning the dial. Sooner or later, Christmas music was blaring throughout their home. Piper, much to her surprise, jumped and squealed.
“Bucky! You idiot!” she clutched her chest, breathing heavily. Bucky cackled, turning the volume down slightly before his arms were wrapped around his lover’s waist once again. It wasn’t very long before Bucky erupted into song, serenading his wife every single Christmas song that played.
“Did I scare ya? Don’t you love Franky though?” Bucky chuckled, and Piper rolled her eyes,
“Yes, I love him! But I wasn’t expecting you to scare me like that! The hot chocolate is almost ready, could you let go of me so I can pour it into a thermos, please?” Bucky whined, letting go of his wife for the second time tonight, and standing away from her so she could do her thing. Piper turned the heat off on the stove, and reached for a big thermos up in the cupboard. She grabbed one and set it down on the counter, twisting the lid off and setting it to the side. Bucky watched attentively, making sure Piper didn’t burn herself in the process. She cautiously poured the hot chocolate into the thermos, a humongous puff of steam exploding from the pot as she poured the liquid into the container. Once all of the hot chocolate was settled in the thermos, Piper lightly placed the pot in the sink, turning on the cold water to rinse out the pot. Bucky continued to scrutinize his wife’s actions, waiting patiently to envelope his arms around her waist and sing to her. Piper opened the cupboard once again to retrieve the marshmallows from the very top shelf, as she did so, one of her favorite Christmas songs came on, The Christmas Waltz. She dropped the bag of marshmallows on the floor as she heard her song come on. She stopped everything she was doing, and set everything to the side. She wrapped her arms around Bucky’s neck, and he smirked to himself. Finally a moment where she wasn’t busy. His arms snaked around her waist, as he began to sing along to the song,
“Frosted windowpanes, candles gleaming inside… Painted candy canes ooon the tree~ Santa’s on his waaay, he’s filled his sleeeigh… with thiiiings~ Things for you and for me!” Bucky chuckled, and Piper pursed her lips together, hesitating to sing along, but she eventually caved in.
“It’s that time of year, when the wooorld falls in love, every song you hear seems to say ‘Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true…” and they began to sing in unison,
“And this song of mine, in three-quarter time~ wishes you and yours the same thing, too…” they hummed along to the instrumental bit before they started singing again. It all happened so fast, Piper didn’t want this moment to end, not one single bit. She hugged her husband tightly, the smile never leaving her face, and his smirk never faded away. What a wonderful way to spend Christmas Eve together, singing and dancing to Frank Sinatra Christmas songs… Not to mention, drinking delicious homemade hot chocolate by the fireplace. The two would also be sleeping near the tree tonight, to capture the true glee of Christmas Eve. They’d fall asleep watching Christmas movie marathons, cuddled up next to each other, the both of them slowly dozing off into a deep sleep. That’s how they wanted to spend the night together. It would be a critically heartfelt moment for them to share, just appreciating each other’s company.
“It’s that time of year… when the world falls in love, every song you hear, seems to say ‘Merry Christmas, may your New Year dreams come true. And this song of mine in three-quarter time, wishes you and yours the same thing, too~” Bucky lifted his wife up into his arms, Piper’s legs locking around his waist as he spun her around in circles. The two laughed simultaneously, Piper’s grip on him tightening as his grasp slightly loosened. Bucky smiled genuinely, looking up into his wife’s brown pools of color,
“You’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met in my entire life.” his voice was nothing but a hushed whisper. The room grew silent, so silent, that you could hear a pin drop. The two stood there, staring deeply into each other’s eyes.
“Merry Christmas, Bucky. I love you so much…” she murmured, before her lips gently pressed against her husband’s, and there were only more of those moments to come as the night progressed.
“I love you too, Piper… Please never leave me.” he mumbled under his breath, hugging her tightly to his chest.

The two spent their night drinking hot chocolate and watching Christmas movies, and ended up falling asleep on the couch. The Christmas tree shone brightly over them, like it was shielding the married couple from harm. Piper stirred in her sleep as she could vaguely hear bells ringing and a man chuckling heartily. She shook it off, thinking it was just a dream, and slipped back into a deep sleep, with her husband by her side.
