Mei could 'feel' the air shift around her, the tension rising ever so subtly. The hairs on her arms stood up and her throat constricted ever so slightly.

Yeah, now she really messed up.

"...it's fine."

No, no it wasn't. That was one big fat lie, and she hated it. She hated terrible liars, even if that made her a big ass hypocrite. It wasn't fine, Idris.

"...No, no, I-" She paused and looked away, gritting her teeth as she slammed her eyes shut again. What the hell was she even doing? Why was she letting herself get so worked up over something like this? Why did she hate it so much, the words she was spewing?

"...I-"

"I'll... I'll leave, if that makes it any better..." She whispered, her voice no longer as blunt and harsh as it was.

"I'm the reason for this bulls**t, anyways. Always have been, always will be." Now, her words sounded bitter, but not directed at Idris. It was at herself. Of course, something about that sentence seemed to not entirely be self-hatred, it seemed to also be layered in pride. She wasn't going to change anything about herself any time soon, no matter what happened. She didn't feel regret for anything she did in the past, this one conversation just happened to be the exception.

Mei turned away from him, then finally took another step instead of standing there like an idiot.

"Who knows, maybe you'll find a body with my name on it, now wouldn't that be fun." She chuckled and tried to seem upbeat and cheery, but it obviously failed.

As much as she wanted to leave, she also hoped that Idris would pull some BS to stop her, she didn't really feel like being alone after all. Who knows, it might be fun to be the first to discover a body together. Maybe that'll get her in a better mood.

Setsuna you better do it quick, Mei will be disappointed if she looked all around the ship for nothing.

Mei said nothing at the first comment, not exactly sure what to say anyways. Besides, she didn't exactly like what that implied.

What if there wasn't one day, Idris? I can feel their knives pinned against my heart, ready to strike at any moment... I don't doubt that someone here is out to get me.

All she did was keep walking, exhaling deeply once after hearing what Idris had to say.

"...I'm worried about you too."

Mei froze, her breathing stopped momentarily and all she could hear was her blood rushing in her ears.

...He was worried? About what? What had she done to make him worried? Why the hell was he avoiding her if he was actually worried?

Now, thoughts seemed to replace the sound of blood rushing, and all she could think about was how the hell he was supposedly so "worried" about her. Was it fake? Was it all a big lie? Was he just saying that? What did she do to even make him "worried"? Was she slipping? Was she being weak?

Oh great. Her trusty trust issues were flaring up again, which was normally a good snap back to reality at most times, but now she felt guilty for overthinking this. She shook those thoughts away and simply responded with an admittedly harsh response, one she really regretted saying. God, she really needed to think a bit before speaking.

"...There's no reason for you to be, Idris. At least I'm not actively trying to bleed to death."

She sighed and picked up her feet again, then immediately realized what she said and bit her lip in guilt. "...Sorry, I shouldn'tve... I shouldn't have said anything..." Her voice was barely above a whisper, and it almost sounded like she was having trouble speaking.

Besides, whatever she said was an absolute lie anyways. She knew what she did before they were thrown on this ship, she knew where those bandages went. She knew why she took so long in the nurse's office. She knew what she did.

God, could she stop thinking for once? Just try to have a normal conversation for once, wouldja?

Mei let out a groan under her breath and squeezed her eyes shut, immediately regretting literally everything she had said.

"Y'know what? Yeah, let's just... Let's just look, I guess."

Mei paused, looked at Idris, then frowned. Her tone turned harsh and grumpy, but still low, quiet, and hesitant. "..."Not important"...? "They don't matter"...? Idris, I... I asked that question for a reason, don't try and be dismissing about it. Look, I get if you don't wanna talk about it, but don't you dare act like it "doesn't matter". I'm not worried about getting out of here right now, got that? I'm more worried about you."

What the hell was she even saying? Ewww, corny, sappy, bulls**t. She never cared about other people, so why start now? Why was she letting herself walk into all this "emotions" BS? Oh whatever, she said what she said, and she meant it, apparently.

She sighed and looked away, pinning her eyes to the floor. She was trying to seem frustrated, but she could only feel a slight bit of guilt.

"...Yeah, sure... Bodies, or whatever..."

"I agree! I-I mean... Who would- actually put this whole thing together?! I can't imagine seeing someone die! Not again..."

Mei watched coolly as the tears fell down the girl's face, almost reacting to it if she didn't have an act to play.

Oh wow, this girl could actually make fake tears. Not that hard, but Mei had low standards, ok?

"I-I know, right?? Like... W-why would this even happen? Why us...? Why do we have to see people k-kill each other again?!"

Mei didn't even bother with the fake tears crap, she could feel that Kowai was about to crack. It was a pain to her eyes when there was too much moisture in them anyways, she'd just rather not.

"Nice to meet you too, Mei! I-I'm glad we're on the same page about all this! I'm so happy to know that you wouldn't kill anyone!"

Same page, huh? We're both hiding butcher knives behind our backs, aren't we? It made her wonder... Were they actually on the same page? Did they have different motives or something?

"I'm so happy to know that you wouldn't kill anyone!"

The color in Mei's eyes shifted slightly, as if they were smiling deviously instead of her mouth. Her mouth was filled with sorrow and worry, her eyes were full of mischief.

"S-same here, Kowai..." She muttered, a faint, "friendly" smile curling in her lips.

Yeah... Same here. Glad to know Kowai wouldn't kill anyone.

Even for a fraction of a second, for the first time since she got here, Mei was genuine about something. She jumped ever so slightly when she felt those fingers on her shoulder, the light weight of them barely noticeable but it still irked her.

A whisper crawled its way into her ear, which made the mask slowly fall off of Mei's face, only to be replaced with a smile and darkened eyes.

"Enough playing around! That was a very interesting act you had going on there! Real Poker Face, huuuh, Ultimate Gambler? Look. I came to talk to you because... I had a feeling about you. And you've just confirmed my suspicions. You're not like these people here, are you? You have plenty of blood on your hands. And not much going for you in your life, heyyy? What do you say we have some fun here, you and I?"

Mei's grin was wide as she listened, quite intrigued at what Kowai had to say. Her voice perked up to become the childish giggle she always donned, but she didn't let it get higher than a whisper. "Aww, I'm flattered! I've been touchin' up on it lately, it makes me soooo happy that my hard work hasn't gone unnoticed! Guess I could say the same to you, eh? Funny little masquerade you had going on there!"

"Oh hoho, so you already knew? Aww, what a shame! I wanted to be as odd and mysterious as a certain student with an unknown talent, someone who went by the name... Kowai Kurai? Sound familiar? I wanna know more about you too, y'know!"

"And... Let's just say... You've piqued my interest as well, now how funny is that! Guess we both caught each other's eye~"

She gave a small giggle as she tilted her head slightly, looking at Kowai with a swirling madness in those lavender eyes of hers.

"Hmmm... Now how could you guess? I'm not a damn fool like all these people here, and you don't seem to be in the same boat as them... Interesting! Oh, and funny that you'd mention that..."

"Because I got the same feeling about you too~"

"Betcha got a lifetime's worth of blood on those cold fingers of yours, -please take them off of me i don't appreciate being touched >:(- guess we're not so different after all~"

"What do you say we have some fun here, you and I?"

Mei's eyes perked up and her smirk only got wider.

"I like your funny words, magic man. Count. Me. IN!"

Ok yeah, sure, Mei didn't appreciate the fact that Kowai was the one who made the deal instead of Mei, giving them the upper hand, but she decided to let it go for now. Besides, it was hard to find someone like this in the first place, one who had a mind much like her own supposedly... She still kept the thought of betrayal in the back of her mind after all.

At least Kowai was the first to crack, the first to drop the act. To be honest, Mei kinda wanted to see where things went if they both just kept acting like idiots.

Ughhhhh, let me pass the f**k out alreadyyyyyy... This floor was comfy enough, so why the hell couldn't I just drown in my own sorrows inside a coma or something, not whatever the hell this school was...

"Umm, ummmmmmmm- HEYYY! Hey there! I'm Dorky. Monroe. Dorky Monroe. Ultimate Lyricist. . ."

Speak of the goddamn devil. Yayyyyy... More pain and suffering for meeeee.... Human interactionnnnnn....

I didn't even have to advert my eyes from the ugly gym ceiling or lift my head to know that someone was talking to me and me only. I was all alone, sulking on the floor, obviously not wanting to be bothered, and then this random dude who seemed to like talking a lot just so happened to choose me as his next victim Oh boy... Sure is my lucky day...

I let out a small groan as I stared back at them, since they were now standing in a spot that I could see from my limited field of view from the ground. Of course, the thought of any human interaction just so happened to provoke a spike of insecurity and nervousness from me, causing my thumbs to move all on their own as they twisted the assortment of rings that littered my hands.

"Uh... Hey... There, I guess..." I muttered out slowly, not really sure of what to say exactly. I do be kinda confused.

Well, this "Dorky" guy introduced himself, so that means I had to as well, right? I mean, wasn't like there was anything to lose other than my social battery and my sanity, right?

"I'm... Daiko, Daiko... Ukatara. And uh... I guess people call me the "Ultimate Archer" or some s**t, I dunno..."

Wow, I had such great conversational skills.

"You'd really think the bear here would have a more creative design, huh? It's got a sort of... Yin-Yang thing going on. Kinda, which I think is cool! Anyway, h-hey!"

"...I mean he looks cool and all, but... I dunno, I... I didn't really get to see him much..."

I, of course, being god-awful in conversations, didn't really say anything else, as I was completely unsure if I even wanted to stay in this conversation in the first place.

Once Idris finally spoke up, she turned her head to face him, tilting her head slightly as she listened.

"Mm? Yeah. Sawyer....Sawyer....has been pleasant company."

Mei gave a grin as she looked over at Sawyer, who was surprisingly making their leave.

"That's great, glad to see you didn't scare them off with your edginess~" She gave a small giggle, but it didn't seem like her heart was in the joke.

So... They were done talking, I guess? Going to look for Darcy, huh... Fine by her, not like she cared. Didn't want Sawyer within arms reach of her poison anyways. But... That meant that she and Idris would be left alone, just like when they first came into the room. She forced herself not to look even an inch higher than Sawyer's face, in hopes that she wouldn't pay attention to the endless abyss beyond them. So far it worked, she was able to not get all weak just by looking outside, all she had to do was keep her gaze low.

"Ohhh! Hi, Mei! I see it's your friend! Have fun with her, Idris!"

Thaaaat... Didn't help. An angry pit boiled up in her stomach, her smile became a harsh frown and her eyes grew sharp, but neither Idris nor Sawyer could see due to the helmet.

"Have fun with her, Idris!"

"Have fun with her!"

She suddenly got a disgusting taste in her mouth as those words struck anger into her. She had no clue why she was getting so angry about it, but...

She hated being played with.

She took a deep breath in order to not randomly lash out and be brash about it, then turned back to face Idris as Sawyer walked out the door.

...

Funny how she just now noticed him fiddling with his fingers, "nervousness" plastered all over the gesture. She stared at him for a bit, not saying a single word, letting the awkwardness hang in the air before finally clearing her throat.

"So..." She paused, her eyes finally breaking free from her control as they wandered up into the dome above her. She clenched her teeth and forced herself to look down, then hastily spoke again. "Can we... Go somewhere else? This room sucks..." She grumbled, trying to not make her dislike all that obvious.

Even if she was clearly doing a bad job at doing so.

...

Abra, you succumbed to the weak embrace of sleep, and now you must suffer. I'm too impatient to wait for a response >:(

...

Assuming Idris is now following Mei out of the room, the two walked together into the hallway, and Mei obviously had no clue where she was going. She decided that she could just wander around randomly, who cares if there was a trap? Covered more ground than just going back and forth to the same room anyways.

Mei wasn't exactly sure what to say, she wasn't exactly in tip-top shape after the encounter with Darcy, and she didn't want to risk anything catastrophic... But... She felt like she had to say something, she absolutely hated how awkward it was.

Swallowing the lump in her throat, she took a deep breath and began to speak hesitantly. "Hey... Are... Are you alright?"

Mei, you should be asking yourself that.

Oh great. They spotted her.

Mei wasn't in the mood to be all funny and giddy, so as soon as she had eyes on her she sighed, stepping out of her hiding spot. They didn't really seem in the mood either.

Well, Sawyer probably was, but they were always like that.

She was more concerned about Idris anyways

Looks like she walked in at a bad time, as evidenced by his hesitation and...

Was he rubbing his eyes?

Mei thought it best not to take notice to it, it was pretty obvious that it wouldn't make Idris feel any better anyways.

She crossed her arms as she walked closer, looking between the two and sighing, all before she finally stopped walking. "So..."

She paused, looking at Sawyer. She had heard most of the latter half of the conversation, but she thought it best to just forget about it.

"What's goin' on here?"

Her voice was calm but distant, slow and low in volume. She quickly noticed and tried to perk up a but, but she mentally groaned in agony at the attempt.

She was about to say something about how "boring" Darcy was or something, then she realized Sawyer was in the room. Even though she was looking right at them. getting them all riled up wasn't worth it anyways...

"Darcy just ditched me, and I have nooooo idea why..." She lied, grumbling in a somewhat joking way. "Got nothin' better to do, so..."

"You two gettin' along?" She joked, almost immediately regretting saying that. She had no clue why, but it sounded... Weird. Childish. Like she was talking to two children.

Ew, she didn't like talking like that.

To be fair, one of them did act like a child. The other one...

We don't talk about him.

"T-The bear robot thing?! Monokuma?! W-what the hell is goin' on here?! Why would he want to make us k-" She pretended that she shuddered at the thought, squeezing herself together tighter and tighter. Mei gulped down the lump in her throat before continuing, her voice shaking.

My god the both of them were such s**tty liars. It was funny, really.

"Kill each other?! Oh god... Who would even do such a thing?!"

Pfftt, you, Mei. You'd do such a thing. She didn't doubt the girl in front of her was thinking the exact same thing, she probably had red hands that she was trying to rake into Mei's pale skin.

Too bad liars knew liars, and Mei's skin was as red as a field of death.

She'd never let this girl twist her around her little finger, and Mei wasn't even dumb enough to do the same. Yeah, sure, with enough effort, she could get someone who had lost their mind to bend to her will, but Mei was lazy and she wanted to see how this played out. Besides, she was in circumstances that she normally wouldn't be otherwise. This could be fun~

"Oh, gosh! You don't suppose it's actually serious, is it? Because honestly. It would really be awful if someone had to die!"

Mei hid the urge to smile and laugh, slap Kowai on the back and joke about it or whatever. But... She wanted to keep this act up, no matter how stupid it was, see who cracked first.

Yeah, sure would be the shame if someone had to die.

And that someone would be you.

"I-It can't be serious, r-right? There's no way in hell someone would do something like this! A-and I can't even imagine the thought of someone dying! That's just... That's just f**ked up!"

"Mei Akamatsu, right? You look like a Mei. I'm Kowai Kurai."

"This really is such a crazy ordeal..."

Mei almost scowled at the comment. What the hell was that supposed to mean? She refrained though, looking away from Kowai and sighing.

So she already knew, huh...

No matter how hard Mei tried, she couldn't be the edgy mysterious b***h she wanted to be. Dammit.

"Y-Yeah, I'm Mei... Nice to meet you, Kowai..." Her voice was quiet and bashful, almost enough to where the other girl could barely hear.

Yup, sure was nice to meet you alright. Mei totally wasn't hiding a knife behind her back.

"I-I don't want to die..." She buried her head further in her legs, her voice barely above a whisper.

Well that was a f**king lie. Mei honestly could care less. She just wanted to have fun. And maybe Kowai was the perfect way to do it~

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Another groan was let out after Mei had unfortunate pleasure to see Monokuma's farewell, which came with an annoying pun as the icing on the cake... For now, Mei had absolutely no clue as to what her plan was or what she wanted to do. The floor was kinda comfy and she kinda just wanted to sleep... Too bad that Dorky kid was being really loud, so that wasn't an option.

"Hello, there... This whole thing, it's so scary, isn't it? I can't believe we're all going to have to kill each other..."

"...Huh," was the only noise Mei made, and it was quiet enough to barely be noticeable. She didn't anticipate anyone actually going up to her, and she certainly hoped no one did.

But the one who spoke was none other than Kowai. Mei already knew it before she even turned her head to face her, bored and confused expression with it. She could just feel the strange energy coming off of Kowai, an energy that intrigued her. But... She acted scared, confused, afraid.

That lying b***h...

I like her.

Mei turned her face to stare at those seemingly terrified eyes, her stare was empty and her face seemed bored and uninterested. Mei quickly made it seem like she was still trying to recover from her fatigue, muttering something unintelligible as she blinked slowly, rubbing one of her eyes a bit.

"...Did you... Didja say... K-Killing game...?" Mei said slowly, her face slowly warping into dread and shock. She tensed her body up and widened her eyes, and also made her voice shakier.

"Y-Yeah that's scary! What the hell?!" She raised her voice a bit and looked at Kowai with fear and confusion, becoming more and more difficult to tell if it was fake or not.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Reimi took a moment to look away from the mess of a social reject that was his brother to see where the hell that black and white bear went, completely oblivious to the situation. Everyone seemed... terrified? For some reason? Where the hell was the person in charge anyways? Was it that damn bear?

This s**t was just getting weirder and weirder by the second, and he was not in the mood for it. Reimi grumbled for a bit before looking back at Akari, not even bothering to take note of the people around him.

Do you have any idea of what's going on? He signed at first, a small hint of confusion mixing into his deadpan stare. Then, he gave a small grin and continued.

Oh wait, I forgot. You never listen. He teased, his grin fading soon after upon seeing the unamused look on Akari's face.

Man, a notebook and pen would be nice to have right about now. He felt really stupid-looking as he moved his hands, being literally the only one to do so. Not even Akari was doing it, and he already caught someone taking a glance at them... Like yeah, sure, he could still speak decently enough to understand, but Akari had already teased him many times about how stupid his deep voice sounded when paired with the somewhat slurred speech. He just decided to not speak anymore after that, and those two were his only options of communication.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Akari barely even noticed the bear leave as he kept his eyes pinned to the floor, still heavily confused about who the hell the guy standing in front of him was. The poor guy was still in shock, and the mention of a killing game didn't help either, even if he wasn't paying attention. He may not have processed it, but it didn't mean he didn't hear it. He only looked up when he noticed that Reimi was trying to talk with him again.

"Do you have any idea of what's going on?"

"I-... N-not really, but I thi-"

"Oh wait, I forgot. You never listen."

Akari's face suddenly changed from confused, nervous, and unsure to just straight-up unamused. He stared at Reimi for a second before sighing, unsure of how to react to that.

"That bear? Said his name was Monokuma, s'posed to be our "headmaster" or something..." He grumbled, lowering his hand from the top of his skull to his neck, turning his head slightly to look at where the bear used to be. "Said something about a "killing game", whatever that's supposed to mean..."

Upon realizing what he had just said, Akari's face turned grim as he looked right back into Reimi's cold eyes. "You better not try anything." He said sharply, his tone low and barely heard, but Reimi knew what he said.

The two stood in silence for a bit, Reimi's light stare competing with Akari's cold eyes. Another grin came upon the former's face as his on hand placed itself on top of Akari's head, rubbing it violently in order to mess it up before retracting in order to say what he wanted to say.

Ye of little faith, 'Ri, I'm offended!

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mei had to hold back a laugh upon hearing that this damn bear was their headmaster, he looked like he was going to be a s**tty one too... She looked at the one in the lab coat, who was apparently Suzume Fujimori. Mei had done a little research, but not really enough for her to care. Suzume Fujimori... Ultimate Scientist... Wow, who could've guessed.

The other chatterbox standing close by seemed to be someone named... Dorky? Dorky Monroe? Weird name, but alright... Ultimate... Lyricist? Huh, ok.

Mei watched the scene closely as she still laid silently on the floor, one person in particular catching her eye though. It was a girl bawling her eyes out for some reason, at the mention of a... Killing Game? Oohh, interesting... Mei liked killing, and she liked games, but she couldn't let anyone else know that. If that bear wasn't bluffing... Things could be interesting.

Kowai Kurai thought differently though, she was whining like a little baby. Oh. She was definitely faking it. Mei knew a liar when she saw one. Hey, maybe they could fake it together! She was already interested in this girl, even with how annoying her voice was, but that was fine! Mei could be annoying sometimes too~

All she did though was lay on the floor like a damn idiot, only able to look at whatever seemed to be going on.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

It took the poor guy a little while to notice the tall figure now standing above him, which was surprising given how obvious it should've been. He slowly dragged his hands off his eyes and stared blankly at the older look-a-like above him, not even doing anything for a solid few seconds.

Finally, after a bit of contemplation though, he took his brother's hand and lifted himself up, now realizing that laying on the floor like he was looked pretty damn stupid. He sighed once he got up, rubbing the back of his head and still looking Reimi dead in the eyes as he tried to process what the hell was going on. One look in those judgmental eyes could say it all though, and Akari knew almost exactly what he was thinking.

Probably calling me a big ass loser right now, aren'tcha...

Akari, being the dumbass he is, completely ignore the fact that a killing game is mentioned.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Reimi sighed as he waited for his hand to be taken, grumbling at the fact that it shouldn't take this long to accept a damn hand. Once Akari finally did, he sighed and stared at him, completely ignoring the bear behind him. Of course, he had no way of knowing that he was in a killing game.

Your hands are cold. He signed harshly, but also somewhat subtly, his expression remaining unchanged from the glare he was giving Akari.

Akari seemed to flinch slightly upon realizing what Reimi was telling him, but the latter pretended not to notice. Just like how he pretended to notice the eyes that were now looking at the floor, completely away from Reimi.

"Yeah... I know..." Was his response, or at least, that's the one he interpreted. He could barely see his mouth due to it being pointed at the floor after all.

Akari how the hell are you even more awkward? I swear to god...

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Kill. me. now.

F**k this shit man, why the hell did I have to get up so early? Goddammit... I could've gotten more sleep, but nOooOOoOOO, I just had to go to this stupid school, which was apparently a cover-up for a damn killing game? Ohhhh f**k this... Like yeah, sure, I wanted to die and s**t, but this was not one of the ways I wanted it to happen. God f**king dammit....

A groan was let out of my mouth as I finally had the guts to sit up and stop looking like an idiot for once, only to immediately want to lie back down and die again. Killing game... Headmaster.... Ace Attorney bulls**t or something... I dunno, I'm just spewing random thoughts out my ass. Not sure if I actually heard them or not. My eyes, without my consent, wandered around the gym to look and see who all was here. Presumably they were Ultimates, but who the hell even were they...?

As I was doing so, I noticed two green-haired dudes that seemed to look a lot alike... Talking to each other? No, they weren't talking, they were signing. Oh great... Just when I thought I could get away from my father's flailing hands that I couldn't be bothered to understand most of the time, I just so happened to run into more people who spoke in hands gaster moment. Oh f**k this, remind me to interact with them as little as possible. Actually, scratch that, remind me to never interact with anyone here. Not the weird purple-haired girl that hadn't even said a word yet, not the weirdo bawling her eyes out, not the energetic bundle of joy who was apparently named Dorky, not the quiet white-haired kids, no one.

Just let me go the f**k back to sleep and let me stay like that, kill me if you want, I couldn't care less. Just let me sleep forever so I wouldn't have to deal with this bulls**t.

Even as she walked away, she could still hear it. She just had to keep walking, get as far away from him as possible. She was... bored of the conversation, it only led to stupid comments that weren't even worth thinking about.

"Maybe you're not a coward. But you sure were a terrible person, weren't you?"

Yup, that's all she ever was, all she ever wanted to be. Just a little nightmare, infecting others with the little plague she had, watching them die slowly as she carved out the jar she would put their little brain in. Little brains in little jars.

There was one brain she didn't want in a jar though, but... Had they already been infected? Would they slowly rot soon enough, and all Mei could do was sit and watch, begging whatever god was out there for a cure?

"You wouldn't care if anyone dropped dead, Mei?... You and Sawyer… you're not that different, when I think about it."

...The hell was that supposed to mean? Her and Sawyer...

Were two completely different people.

"Ah. Your rules, isn't it? What's the game, Mei? Is it a game of love and loss, of sacrifices that go nowhere? And you're left sitting with people… people who…"

...A game of love, loss, and sacrifices, huh? Yeah, sure... Like she'd play in that game.

"You sure are a funny, inconsistent creature. Just who are you, even? It almost feels like you lost sight of that a long time ago. You're just an actress… playing parts for everyone. You laugh and smile, and mean none of it. You cry and bleed… and mean none of it. Or you mean all of it. No one knows where the truth lies in you."

...Just... Who was she?

Darcy was right, she'd lost sight of it long time ago. She hadn't called herself human in years, only a nightmare. A plague. She embraced those titles with welcome arms, welcomed them like...

Like...

Like a loving parent to a happy child. Like a lover to one another. Like a brother to their sibling.

...

Yeah, yeah she did put on all those acts for the fun of it, doing whatever the hell she wanted in her own little toybox of hers.

No one knows where the truth lies in you.

Just how she liked it. This act was all she wanted to show the world, and she'd do whatever it took to play the act until the ending scene. Then the lights would go out, and the curtain would close, and it would be finished.

"I'm sorry, Mei. I… I shouldn't have said anything. I've said nothing but hurtful things to you this entire time, and– you were just trying to help me. In your own way."

Mei scoffed upon hearing that sentence, fading out as she got further away. An apology? From Darcy? Oh come on... That was just unnecessary! "In her own way" her ass, who said she was trying to help?

Oh wait. She did. Oh well.

. . .

Mei stood in silence for a bit, gazing at the trinkets all around the room as she thought to make a decision. Should she...?

A sigh left her mouth as she looked at a strange gem for the last time, leaving the room she just entered and made her way back to the cockpit.

Right where Idris and Sawyer were.

. . .

She walked closer and closer, only hearing Sawyer's voice ramble on and on about unicorns or some bulls**t, but then...

"...thank you Sawyer. Genuinely."

Mei paused as she peeked around the corner, curious to see what was going on.

...Huh. Interesting.

And of course, Mei just had to wake up to screaming and other foolishness that she was in too much pain to deal with. She got up, rubbing the knot in the back of her head with a sour look on her face, and mumbled curses for a few seconds as she looked around. So much chattering... So much nonsense... There was a black and white bear screeching at everyone, and Mei was not a fan of it. She groaned and fell back to the floor, still muttering curses as she sat there, looking like she wished she was dead.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Akari woke up abruptly, acting like he was in the middle of danger and sleeping was a crime. After he calmed himself down and quickly assessed the situation, he started to groan, his hands immediately going to his ears to drown out the noise. So much talking, so much screeching, his poor ears couldn't handle it. He simply decided to lie there and close his eyes, listening to the chatter beyond the poor excuse for earplugs that were his hands.

...Wait, is that... Is that what he thought he saw?! No... No they were dead, long dead. His eyes... Yeah, they must be deceiving him. He didn't want to lift his head to take another look, but...

Slowly but surely, his hands fell off his head and placed themselves on the ground, and Akari lifted his head up and faced in the direction of...

Rei.

Oh god. It was him.

He set his head back down and closed his eyes, then raised his hands to cover them. How the hell...

Akari felt light-headed, his mind raced with the possibilities.

Horatia, what the f**k did you do?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Reimi woke up unpleasantly yet again, groaning as he opened his eyes only to see...

The roof of a gymnasium, staring back at him. Where the hell was he? All he did was let his eyes wander before finally moving his head, sitting up from the floor and rubbing the knot that was made on his head. Unsurprisingly, he heard absolutely none of the bulls**t that was going on, and he didn't even look fazed when his eyes landed on a black and white bear.

Oh goodie, this looked like it was going to be so much fun.

Out of the corner of his eye though, he noticed a familiar green mop of hair under a beanie he used to see every day.

...Akari?

He turned his head slowly, only to find that he was laying n the floor, looking as miserable as always. He rolled his eyes and decided to force himself to stand up, as painful as it was. He took a moment to stretch before stuffing his hands in the pockets of his coat, then walked over to where Akari was.

Geez... As pathetic as ever, aren'tcha... The hell you doin still on the floor? Get up, why don'tcha...

He reached his hand out to Akari with a disappointed and rough look on his face, nd he didn't even notice due to his sulking.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Oh f**k this. What the hell was going on, why was she even here. She better not have been drugged, that s**t sucked. How long was she even out?? My god... Waking up looking like s**t in front of like... I dunno, 18 other people? Was really embarrassing, Daiko just wanted to crawl into a corner and stay there, never to come out. She didn't want to be talked to by any of these people anyways, they all looked weird and some of them were already talking too much... Ugh, could someone just end her misery already?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Yeah... She was truly evil alright... A tinge of pain spiked in her, barely enough to feel it, but when you felt almost nothing in the first place...

It made you stop in your tracks.

Darcy was right, Mei wouldn't deny that. Time and time again she called herself that, and she was fine with it because it was true. Not like life would be better for her if she became human after all, she liked being a demon, a monster.

Then... Why did it hurt? Why did it hurt to realize that she could never be human? Why did she feel pain, even if a little, when she found that all she could be was a nightmare?

...Oh. That's right.

She could only cause pain, nightmares only made things worse for everybody.

Even on the totally nonexistent instance she didn't want to.

She thought about them again, the one person she didn't want to hurt. She was doing a really bad job at it, she only made things worse for them. Maybe it was better that she just... Left them alone, not make them suffer because of her.

"...you could've spared them. You could've spared them, and yet you chose not to. I don't care what they agreed to, Mei. What did they do that made them deserve that?"

That comment made her snap out of it, and she turned around to shoot her response as her feet slowly walked backward.

"Spared them? Spared them? Wow, Darcy, you're hilarious! If I spared them, that would be going back on my word! I promised them death, and they thought they could avoid it. I only gave them what they wanted! Besides, I'm not a coward, Darcy. I keep my promises!" She had to get louder and louder as she walked away, since she was slowly getting further and further.

"...Then I guess I better prepare for an exorcism then. To protect everyone here from the likes of YOU and the poison you'll spike into their minds."

Mei's voice got quieter and her tone didn't seem as enthusiastic, her already slow steps got even slower. "...Lookin' forward to it"

"You can try and try, but my poison will always find its way out of my hands, and there will be nothing you or I can do to stop it."

"...better to be dead than to have become a loathsome monster."

"KAORU WAS NOT WEAK AND STUPID! I may not have known him, but MAYBE THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD THING, huh? Monokuma would've sent you back where you'd come from. And that- that... wouldn't have been murder."

Mei stayed silent for a bit, picking up her steps as she turned away.

...Yeah, maybe it was, but the devil wasn't ready for her yet. Even if she put a gun to her head right now, she doubted it would've worked. The nightmares that she turned into only wanted to torment her, even if that meant keeping her alive for as long as possible.

"Can't wait to see it Darcy, and I bet you can't either!~" She giggled hollowly as she continued to walk and listen to Darcy's rambling yet again.

"NO, YOU DON'T NEED TO! And how the HELL is that fun?"

To be honest, Mei couldn't exactly tell you why it was fun, it just was. Maybe it was the little nightmares crawling into her head convincing her it was, or it was just genuinely her. Either way it didn't matter, she didn't really care.

"...pay me? What, do you have money here? Some kind of... hellish currency of your own? Or did you find yourself some normal money to blend in among people? ...Buddies."

"...buddies are people like Sawyer. You don't care about me. I know you don't. There's... there's..."

"...there's no way you care about me. People don't do that."

...Yeah, blending in... Suuureee did. Totally didn't have to live her life in hiding, only coming out of the shadows to have gruesome gambling matches with actual people, all for the entire world to see. Totally didn't have to live behind dozens and dozens of fake names and faces, to the point where she wasn't even sure Mei Akamatsu was her real name anymore. She was constantly hidden under the radar, never able to have a life outside of the hole she dug herself. She... She had always been fine with it though, right?

And yeah, Darcy could be right about her not caring, but what did it matter? Wouldn't have made one hell of a difference anyways. What really pissed her off was Darcy saying no one cared about him. ...Seriously? At least he had good qualities, whereas...

Mei had none. Darcy was really dragging himself down to her level, and it pissed Mei off.

"Oh shut up Darcy, Sawyer cares. Is that not enough for you? At least most of the people here see you in a positive light, right? Is that really not enough? Good grief..."

"It's... not... about you."

". . . You don't care about me. There's NO WAY IN HELL you do. Because if you did... you wouldn't say things like this to me. You wouldn't want me around just so I could make you chocolates. ...and you wouldn't even care if I dropped dead. Frankly, I don't know... why I liked you. I guess I just didn't learn a thing from Will, did I? You're just like him."

Mei sighed and dropped her arms, rolling her eyes. "Ok, and? You're probably right, I might not give a damn about you, but I say s**t like this to everyone, you're not the exception. I wouldn't care if anyone dropped dead, honestly."

...Meeeeiiiii~ I think you're forgetting someooonnneee~

"Frankly, I don't know... why I liked you.

Mei froze, a shocked look came upon her face.

"Woah woah woah, I don't know who the hell Will is, but you can't just say s**t like that!"

Mei sighed and groaned, unsure of what to even say anymore.

". . . You don't regret ANY of it? Any of what you've done? ...wow. Okay, Jack Kennedy. You think you're so great, don't you? You think you're untouchable. You think you could kill God if you wanted to."

"...and God would try to stop you. He'd try to make you forget what you'd done. But you wouldn't have the soul to repent. You'd kill children's dreams with a twisted, glowing smile."

"...I wouldn't dare try that, Darcy. I don't have as big as an ego as you think I do so drop it. You don't know jack s**t."

"And who's to say I haven't done that already, huh... Many of my victims had children, y'know, and I've stolen a few lollipops from babies..."

She tried to sound enthusiastic and childish with those words, but it just wouldn't come to her.

And that was that. Mei picked up her feet and walked away, now in a worse mood than when she began. She wasn't going to talk to Darcy anymore, she had already said too much. Now she looked vulnerable to Darcy, weak, and she absolutely hated it.

She ended up walking longer than she would've thought, and only realized it because she heard two familiar voices. They seemed to only be a room away, but she knew exactly who they were.

Kubo and Lucian. Alone. Together.

Eh, she wasn't in the mood to bother them, she'd rather just take note of it and instead go to the room with all sorts of random trinkets, not even noticing that she passed Sutaraitsu and Akari on the way there.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

"You just... Had their heads... Chopped right off? Do you... Seriously think you should have control who lives and dies? Are you... That arrogant?"

Mei paused, cocked her head to the side and smiled.

"Oh Darcy... I had more than just heads chopped off... Thousands of deathly needles were used, some were burned at stakes, some of them have a bullet in their head, some of them. . ." She rambled on and on for a bit, detailing every type of execution she used, all sounding more brutal than the last.

"Hey, they signed the contract, not me. They knew what they were talking into, and they chose to risk their lives in the stupidest way possible. I only gave them the gun, they pulled the trigger."

Mei sounded offended again, she was grumbling and she had her arms crossed.

"But you're right about being arrogant, arrogant is me, and I am arrogant~"

"...if you're a demon. Is- is that what you are? You're a demon... Disguised as a human. Of course, how did I not see this coming?"

Mei paused, doing nothing at first before laughing and throwing her arms up like she was celebrating or something. "DING DING DING! Wow Darcy, you're soooooo good at this, you're on your way to winning the grand prize! Hehe, was it really that obvious? Me bein' a little demon?"

Then her mind suddenly wandered, even when she had that fake childish personality that usually stopped it. She wasn't sure why, but...

Those nightmares... Was it a demon out to get her? Making her one as they endlessly tormented her? Surely that was it, right? Nono, she couldn't think about that right now, she was dealing with Darcy, she couldn't slip.

"...she didn't do it for fun. Unlike YOU. A-And maybe... Maybe she was in the wrong! But she's not half as bad as YOU!"

"...maybe it would be better if you were a little more like her."

"...Not half as bad as me, ay? Hmmm... You could be right about that, but at least I'm not dead."

Her tone turned grim, and so did her smile.

"And if I was like her... I would be, now wouldn't I? If I was more like Kaoru, I'd be weak and stupid, and I'd be in Monokuma's noose~" She laughed some more.

"...oh. So you just casually put blades to people's throats, a-all the time? Is that some kind of... Tradition or.... Hobby of yours?"

Mei clapped in response, giggling as she spoke. "DING DING DING, rrrrrrrIIIGHT AGAIN! Geez Darcy, you're so smart! Maybe you do know a thing or two about me!"

"Yup, I do it aaaalllll the time, gotta strike a little fear into everyone, don't I? Beesssiiiideees, it's fun! Not much to it, really!"

"P-Pfft.... So, what, I'm your little servant then? Who just... Fetches things for you? Well, sure thing. If that's what you want."

"...it's not like... Anyone would actually miss... Me for me. Rather than what I could offer. . ."

"Pffttt, whaaaaaattt? Little servant? You got the wrong idea, Darcy, I'd at least have the decency to pay you while I forced you to make me some! We're buddies aren't we? We'd do anything for each other!" She giggled yet again, all while spewing random bull that she never really meant.

"Whaaatttt? Like I said Darcy, BUDDIES! B-U-D-D-I-E-S! Got that? Buddies care about each other, don't they? And..."

Mei's smile faded as her tone got darker.

"Pretty rude of you to forget about your real buddy, Sawyer over there, isn't it? Do you really doubt them that much, to where you don't even think they'll miss you? Pfft, yeah, sure they'll think it's all a dream or some bulls**t, but don't you think they'll eventually realize? Geez Darcy..."

"I should have gone through with it a long time ago. All you are in this life is what you can offer to entertain. It doesn't matter who you are, no one ever loves you. No one would ever miss you if you were to drop dead."

Mei paused once again, giving an exaggerated sad sigh.

"So... Who we talkin' about here? Cuuuuzzzz... I have this strange feelin that it ain't me!" She laughed once again, completely shaking it off. Funny how they agreed with something for once, because sometimes...

Mei thought the same thing, but at least she knew it was 100% true. Mei was really a useless nobody in this life, she knew that, not like she cared though. Darcy at least had someone, Darcy was a good enough person for people to like.

"Just do it for them. It's never for me, and it never should be. Just let it go empty.

Mei groaned and threw her arms to her side, obviously annoyed by that statement. "Good grief Darcy, I'm the one tryin' to be nice for once and you're goin' all "no one cares about me" or some s**t? Jesus christ get a grip already, I don't want your depressing bulls**t!"

"Oh, that's fine!! Who needs someone else to kill you when you can do it yourself? Am I right?"

Mei crossed her arms and pouted, acting like she was hurt or something. "Speak of the devil..."

"Yeaahhhh, you're sooooo right! How smart of you Darcy, getting it right once again..." She mumbled sarcastically, acting like she was in a bad mood.

"Guess it would be a shame to say that both have already been done and tried, wouldn't it? Guess I could say the devil doesn't want me to join him juuuuussttt yet, right?"

"NO! I'M- I'm- I'm not a bad person! I'm not!" he choked out. "I'm not..."

"I'm not going to Hell with you!"

Mei's personality flipped once again, and she began to laugh.

"We'll see about that, won't we? I'll be waiting down there, waiting juuuuussttt for you~"

"...I don't know, how dumb do I think you are? So... Weaponry to throats is your definition of playing around?..."

"You would have done it, if you'd wanted to? Seriously? I... I--"

"So you'd do it all the time, if it weren't for rules and benefits?... Otherwise... You wouldn't care?"

Mei scoffed and let out a chuckle, rolling her eyes and putting her hands on her hips. "Uhhhh, yeah? It sure is!"

"I don't do things without a reason, Darcy. Just so you know..."

"I may have innocent blood on my hands, but I don't regret a single one... They all laughed in the face of death, and death laughed back."

Well... That was a f**kin lie. She had a few regrets, of course, like the desperate man and his family. But... The ones she didn't regret outweighed the ones she did, so... It was fine, right?

"Nah, wouldn't care that much, really. If I cared, I would've been all depressed about it like you, and that's stupid."

"...right. N-Nothing. Nothing at all... Nothing--"

"...no pills. No thank you."

"...and why doesn't that surprise me?"

"Got it! No pills, they're disgusting anyways... Geez, you'd think they wouldn't have a taste, but they taste NASTY! Tastes like weak s**t, absolutely disgusting! And uh... I dunno, why doesn't it?" Mei laughed for a bit as Darcy spoke again, but Mei said nothing else. She was getting really bored, and she couldn't think of much else to say anyways.

"Oh well, cya! Nice chat we had! Byeeeeee!" She began to hop away, all cheery and ecstatic with giggles following her. She would've went to go get Idris if Sawyer wasn't in the room, so instead she just decided to wait and see if he managed to escape on his own and somehow followed her.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mei backed away as she giggled and twirled, only stopping when Darcy spoke again.

"...lives... Countless lives, huh? How... How can anyone... DO such a thing? Just... Who do you-"

"Yup! Many many idiots stepped up to the guillotine thinking that they'd see me in it, but of course I had to prove 'em wrong!"

She giggled again before bending down and putting her hands on her knees, looking at Darcy with a devious grin.

"How could someone do such a thing? Hehe, I dunno, it's fun!"

"Just ask Kaoru, she did the same thing too, didn't she? Oh wait! You can't! Hehe, sheeeee decided to be a f**king idiot and play into that bear's game, and now she's dead! Thank god I'm not like her, riiiiighhhtt?"

Mei paused and slowly straightened up, tilting her head as she frowned at Darcy's death wish.

"Where the hell did that come from, huh? Never said I was gonna kill ya, that would be stupid! Of course these people would find me out easy, and I'm not that stupid!" She scoffed and crossed her arms, almost looking insulted.

"Who'll bake you chocolates when I'm gone?"

Mei gasped dramatically, then giggled, suddenly looking all cheery again. "BINGO! Yooooouuuuu got it! Why would I kill you when you still have some chocolates to make, your death would make me soooo sad!" She continued giggling and rambling on about chocolates and how stupid Darcy was or something, at least until she got interrupted that is.

"...YOU. Don't you dare. DON'T. YOU. DARE."

"...do whatever you want with me. I don't care. ...just don't hurt them."

Mei groaned again and looked at Darcy like he was stupid, sighing then giving her unneeded response.

"Ok, obviously you're not a good listener. Look, I already told you I wasn't gonna touch 'em, I'm even telling you I don't want to be near them! I'm trying to do you guys a favor, but too bad you're too stupid to see it... I'm not doing this for myself, y'know, as crazy as that sounds. Me? Not being selfish for once? Pfffftt, never, ammiright?"

Her sarcastic attitude soon dropped as she spoke her next words. "I'm doing this for you., for them. I'll say it a million times until you finally understand, but I know how much you care."

"All I ask for is chocolates in return, gotcha? Wouldn't want my favorite little chocolate maker to be all sad and lonely on me, now would I? I heard baking tastes worse when some sappy thing about "your heart not being in it" or whatever, which is probably why I'm so bad at it..." She perked up again and clapped her hands together. "But aaannnyyyywaayyyss, you have my word that I'm not touching you, or Sawyer, got that? Even if you beg me a million times to kill you, I ain't doin' it!" She giggled once again, not exactly prepared for what came next.

"Great, then just pull those fangs out of your mouth and watch the blood run. It's not that hard to just make yourself bleed and be better, is it? Or IS IT that hard for you?"

Mei paused and frowned, obviously exaggerating but that laugh paired with those words got somewhat of a negative reaction from her. "Heyyy... Don't do that, it'll hurt! And you wouldn't dare hurt little ol' me, now wouldja?"

"It's not that hard to just make yourself bleed and be better, is it? Or IS IT that hard for you?"

Darcy, once again, proved that he knew nothing.

It wasn't hard to make her bleed, really. She had soft spots too, even if she guarded them heavily. Didn't mean it was impossible to make her bleed though, hit her where it hurt. The hard part was getting her to feel it.

"Eh, that's for me to know and you to find out, isn't it?" She simply shrugged the remark off and didn't say another word about it.

"B-Both... Going to the land down under, huh?"

"No... No... I-- I'M A GOOD PERSON!! I'm not... I'm not... Going there..."

Mei chuckled then gave an amused sigh, crossing her arms before smiling, somehow finding that statement funny.

"Heh, suuuuree, keep tellin' yourself that, maybe God will actually start to believe you." She said casually, her voice not having an exaggerated tone this time.

"Fun... With you. Th-that's such a laugh, isn't it? You, who just threatened to slit my throat open. ...wh-why don't you just go on and do that, huh?..."

Aaaaannndd- Do I even need to say it? Wow guys, plot twist! Mei switched her personality yet again, how funny and original.

"Hehe, yup! Fun with meeeee~ Sure is funny, right? I can't believe we're gonna do it together!" She laughed yet again before scoffing at the last remark, the same childish attitude still following. "Pffft, you really thought I was gonna do it? Ok 1, how dumb do you think I am? And 2..."

...

"I was only playin' aroooouuunndddd! If I wanted to do that, I would've done that by now! Same with Sawyer, ya know~ I could've hurt them a loooonnngg time ago, but did I? Nahhhhh, I'm not that heartless! Besides, I have no reason to! Just think about it for once, couldja? I can't just go killing all willy nilly here like I noooorrmmally would!"

"...don't you dare touch them. DON'T. YOU DARE. TOUCH THEM!"

"DON'T YOU DARE GET ANYWHERE NEAR THEM!! IF YOU HURT THEM, I-- I'LL- I'LL-"

"Please..." Darcy pleaded. "Do... Do whatever you want with me. Just... Don't hurt them... Please."

Mei recoiled at his touch, a flash of unease and disgust coming across her face as Darcy begged or whatever.

"Or you'll do what, Darcy? Hmm? I'm waiting~"

Upon realizing how cliche and dumb that sounded, she sighed and threw Darcy's hands off her shoulders and backed away, making sure she was out of arm's reach.

"...You're getting all worked up over nothing, geeeez... Need a chill pill? I've got plenty of em! And just so you know..."

"I don't take orders, Darcy."

Mei was already starting to get bored, but she had provoked Darcy and it didn't look like this argument was going to end soon if she kept talking. Oh well, it was a time killer. Besides, the longer she did this, the longer Idris could be bugged by Sawyer, and that was definitely a good thing.

...

"Oh for f**ks sake Darcy, you better not be cryin' under there! Geeeeezzz... Get a grip, wouldja? I can't understand you if you're sobbin' your eyes out!"

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Akari was so focused in trying to block out the bickering that he didn't even notice a familiar pink-haired kid approach him, his voice making him jump. Of course, it was a visible one too, because why wouldn't it be. God... How embarrassing...

"H-hey..." Akari said quietly, not once looking up to face Sutaraitsu.

...How did he feel about the whole spaceship thing? Well... First off, it was whacky as hell and he wasn't even sure what was going on anymore, but spacecraft... He was perfectly fine with being here, even with the limited oxygen, since there just seemed to be a lot more options to keep himself occupied than whatever the hell was, or rather wasn't at Hope's Peak. Honestly, if someone could just lead him to the room where the scraps were kept, he'd probably stay there until either A) they all died, or B), someone else died.

"I-It's weird, I guess, but..." Akari paused for a moment, then shrugged. "I guess it's not too bad... Right?"

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Mei simply smiled throughout Darcy's entire rant, somewhat enjoying seeing them lash out.

She thrived in the negativity after all.

"Does this make you HAPPY, Mei? Just endlessly going about, destroying people's lives, be it by your words or your actions? You've got "filthy sinner" written all over you."

"Your constant tossing around of insults, your constant disrespect for everything anyone might hold dear, your constant disrespect of people... it disgusts me."

"And the fact you think you have EVERY right to talk how you want. News flash, NOBODY has that right. We're all supposed to be better than that. To do better than that. It's not that hard to just be kind to others, but instead, you decide to walk your merry little way to Hell, don't you? You decide to leave a trail of bones and broken hearts behind you... with bloodstains and a smile streaking your face. You're TWISTED. You're SICKENING."

She laughed along with him, shrugging and shaking her head as a way of taunting. "Did you even listen? Of course it makes me happy, that's why I do it after all." Her grin was sickening, just like how Darcy saw her. But of course, she had a helmet.

" 'Filthy sinner', ay? Oh hoho, Darcy, you have no goddamn clue what I've done to get my name sprawled all over Satan's naughty list, I bet he's down there waiting for me with open arms, and no amount of repenting will save me now."

Mei smiled and took a step closer to Darcy, her hands behind her back, her fingers lightly grazing the little object she had stolen from the room before.

"Do you even know who I am, Darcy? I'm more than just a purple-haired little brat who got roped into a killing game..."

"I'm Mei Akamatsu, the Ultimate Gambler... I gamble with lives, Darcy, and each and every one of them had the losing bet. Each and every one of the hundreds I've played have lost their heads, lost their minds, and you know what?"

With one swift movement, a dagger was brought out, a plain one but it was sharp enough to kill. It had somehow fit within the suit, and she had somehow brought it out of hiding in one single movement. That blade was now tickling Darcy's neck, just waiting to dig through the suit and into his skin.

"I enjoyed every. goddamn. second of it, I enjoyed toying with them, I enjoyed hurting them. And honestly? My hand is itching to add another layer of paint onto itself, and I know the perfect way to do that..."

Mei bounced away and quickly concealed her knife again, rocking back and forth as she held her hands behind her back and that childish grin came onto her face again. Before she could continue onward with her sentence, she was interrupted by Darcy screaming at them once again.

"THEY JUST WANTED TO BE YOUR FRIEND, MEI. THEY'RE LIKE THAT WITH EVERYBODY! And what's wrong with that?!"

That childish attitude faded, and her exaggerated movements relaxed a bit.

"They just wanted to be my friend, huh..."

"You know exactly what's wrong with that, Darcy. You know that would never work, no matter how badly Sawyer wants it. If you really did care, you'd never let that happen."

"If you knew who I was, you'd know how much of a mistake that would be. I'd crush them, Darcy. I'd have them wrapped around my little finger, their life in my hands, all because you thought we could be friends."

Her voice only seemed to get more sorrowful as she spoke, and it was unclear whether it was an act or not. She... Mei didn't need friends, nor did she want them. All she wanted to do was toy with people and make them miserable.

Then she thought of the one person she thought of as a friend, the one person who she was ok being with, one where she so desperately wanted to live her life sharing happy memories with, like all friends did. She... She normally wouldn't care about something like that, she liked to live life alone after all, but...

It wasn't like she was getting out of here anyways. The whole "friends" thing didn't even matter anymore, did it? It was pointless to even try, and well...

She probably couldn't be friends with anyone anyways, no matter who they were. She just made things worse for them, and it was pretty obvious that she screwed up her only chance. Oh well, she could live without them, right?

"In another world, under different circumstances, things could've been different, I guess. But not this one, Darcy."

"In this world, it's kill or be killed, and in this world..."

"I've been cursed to bear the fangs of a viper."
ugh, so edgy
. . .

"Ohhh, I bet he's got big plans for you. And I bet you deserve all of them."

"Hehe, you're right about that one Darcy! Ding ding ding, I sure as hell do!" Her expression changed in an instant once again, the spring in her step returned and she was exaggerating her movements to match her words. She watched as Darcy broke down, laughing along with him, dancing around his body on the floor. "Awww, but that was a good one! Geez Darcy, don't be so hard on yourself! If we're both goin' to the land down under, we can have so much fun together! Hehe, I can't wait! Makes me tempted to lay a finger on your little ol' buddy Sawyer, so you can 'give me hell' like you said you would! Hehe, I juuuuuusssttt might do it, y'know! Wasn't plannin' on it, seein' how adorable they are, but you're reeeeeaaallly temptin' me!"

God, could they be any louder? Akari rolled his eyes and tried his best to ignore the commotion, but given that he didn't have much to distract himself from it...

Guess he was going to have to deal with listening to whatever edgy bullcrap Mei and Darcy were spewing for the rest of his time in this room. Eh, he was too content to move anyways, so guess he just had to deal with it.

He's dealt with worse, after all.

Ah great, he had more to say? Jesus christ... Mei thought she made it obvious that she was done talking, ready to go on her merry way, but nOoOOoOOOooo, Darcy just had to say more. Well... To be fair, Mei's words left a lot of room for him to reply.

She paused and sighed, listening to Darcy rambling on.

"DON'T YOU DARE IMPLY I DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM! AND I'M THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO CALL THEM ANNOYING!"

"I-I mean, I--"

"...they're... They're happy like this. I just want them to be happy, Mei. I know it's not real, and I don't like it, but..."

Mei let that silence hang for a moment before shrugging yes, the image was necessary, her voice sounding more nonchalant than before but also slightly... Teasing?

"Hey, I never said any of that. And I can say whatever the f**k I want, thank you very much."

"Just who do you think you are, anyway? Saying... Things like that. I can't just-- keep them away from everyone. They're their own person! They-- they just... They hang around me because-- they like doing it! I... I think... You're..."

Mei groaned and let her hands fall, then sighing before replying. "Jesus christ Darcy you're acting like I don't know that and it's pissing me off. Look, I know you care, that's why I'm telling you, ya dumbass..."

She grumbled yet again before continuing. "I'm telling you all this sappy bulls**t because I know, and I want you to keep Sawyer the hell away from me."

Her voice lowered and became more ominous, like she was giving a warning. "Because you know... As soon Sawyer shows their vulnerable little throat, I'll sink my fangs in and watch as their heart shatters as the life drains from their eyes and their reality is broken. You know that as well as I do, Darcy."

"...I was just... Just trying to be a decent person. And I... Was just worried about you. Do you care about that? Do you care about ANYONE?"

"N-No... Mei... I..."

"...I don't want you dead. Even though I probably should. I care about you. You matter to me."

Mei paused and didn't say a word for what seemed like forever. When she spoke, her words were deep and harsh, like a dagger, filled with bitterness and tainted with a warning.

"You damn right you should... Never wanted anyone's sympathy anyways, that's the exact opposite of what I want."

"Like hell I matter to you, you really are far from saving if you think that I'm even worth it. Has it ever occurred to you that I want you guys to hate me? I thrive in the negativity, and I'm ready to drop a pool full of it while I'm still alive..."

"And Darcy... I thought it would've been obvious by now, don't you think? I don't care about anyone, otherwise my goals would be different, no? I'd be begging that damn bear to set me free to go home or whatever if that was the case, and if you use your eyes, I ain't doing that now am I..."

She finally turned around to face Darcy and shrugged again, her expression now empty and her tone was as well. Well, she tried to dabble a little of that playful energy into her voice, but it probably didn't work.

"If... That's true, why are you acting like this? You don't... Usually act like this. It feels like something's wrong, Mei. It really does."

"I'm 'acting' like this because I can, Darcy, it's simple. That's all I do, after all, act and act and act. It makes things fun, twists things up a bit, nothing more to it."

She let out a harsh chuckle, then continued. "You don't know me, Darcy, and don't even act like you do. I've already told you, I'm fine, stop worrying about me. I already told you I don't need your bulls**t."

"Please... Don't joke about things like that. And don't get hurt... Okay?"

And suddenly, at the flick of a switch, Mei's demeanor had flipped once again. "Awww, but why not, huh? Seeeeee, you don't know a thing about me, I love jokes! And getting hurt is fun, I don't see why I can't~"

Akari heard the commotion going on not to far from where he was, but he ignored it since Mei's voice was behind it. He instead fiddled with whatever random electrical appliance he found as a way to waste time.

The man is just chillin, he finally found something to do, and now he is no longer expresso depresso.

Mei groaned and rolled her eyes as soon as she realized Darcy was following her, and he had some words to say as well... Of course he did, why wouldn't they? Slowly but surely, Darcy was becoming Mei's least favorite chocolatier.

"I'm sorry. Sawyer didn't mean to scare you... It's just... You know how they are. I'm sorry. But you didn't have to insult them, you know..."

"...Insulted them?" She paused, her head still low and her hands in her pockets, but her feet quite moving. Her voice was monotonous and sounded uninterested, and it was a little lower than usual as well.

"I just told them to back off, how the hell is that insulting?"

"What, you "care a lot about their fragile, sensitive heart" or some bulls**t? Really thinking something as tame as that was an insult? Pfft, you wouldn't ever want to hear the insults I had piled up, Darcy, I was being gentle."

Well, no Mei, you weren't, but that's probably the "tamest" you could've been.

"...If you really cared about Sawyer, you'd keep them the hell away from me, from everyone, got that? If you so badly insist on them remaining a seemingly innocent ball of annoyingness, you'd do a better job at shielding them from the harsh reality every single damn person on this ship can give 'em. Just sayin', y'know."

Mei shrugged and took another step forward, hoping she'd finally be free from the conversation before Darcy spoke up again.

"Sorry. No, that was insensitive, I... Are you doing okay? You seem like you're... Going through some things right now. Shout at me if you want, and, if you need to be alone, that's okay, just... Please be careful, don't get yourself killed, okay?"

Goddammit.

Mei stopped in her tracks again, no eyerolls, no grumbles, just stopped in pure silence.

A moment hung in the air for what seemed like ages before her harsh, dark, and serious tone spoke up again, albeit not very loudly.

"First off, don't apologize for that s**t, I don't wanna hear it." She spat, pausing again before giving a sharp sigh and slightly turned her head back.

"Why the hell do you care, huh? Don't you want me dead in the f**kin' grave, shoved six feet under? Don't gotta lie to me, I already know the answer..."

Well, that wasn't entirely true, she wasn't exactly sure if that's what Darcy really wanted. It was more of a projection of sorts, what she hoped Darcy thought of her.

"I'm fine Darcy, don't know what the hell you're on about... I ain't goin' "through anything" or whatever the f**k you think."

". . .just... Please be careful, don't get yourself killed, okay?"

Mei paused for a moment, her tone softening ever so slightly as she turned her head back to face the hall in front of her.

"Heh, don't worry about me, totally wasn't plannin' on it anyways~" She gave a smile that seemed a little forced before letting her feet continue, saying nothing else.

Totally wasn't aware that Sawyer was probably bugging Idris right now, nope, no siree, she totally didn't know and totally wasn't ignoring it so she wouldn't have to "save" him.

Besides, what's a little payback anyways? She didn't like to be ignored, lied to, and downright disrespected. First, he lied to her about literally bleeding out, then he ditched her at lunch, and now he was pretty much ignoring her? Oh, and she didn't doubt that he sulked in his room the entire time after he ditched her...

Yeah, maybe letting Sawyer annoy him wasn't a bad idea.

Not again not again... Not again...

Don't think about it. Look away, don't think about it.

Look away.

"Nothing to see here, I guess. We should go."

Oh... Right... Idris actually followed her, which she didn't expect given his recent attitude. She took a deep breath as she shook her head slightly, closing her eyes and raised her hand to pinch the bridge of her nose. God... He noticed, didn't he?

Who the hell had a fear of space anyways? There was nothing about it, literally, so there was nothing to be "frozen in fear" about. So why the hell did she always have that reaction?

Toughen up, get a grip, something... Jesus christ Mei, could you be any more pathetic?

Well, yeah, she could actually. She could continue on with her edgy moment, or she could get all weak and emotional like the rest of these cowards, or she could be brutally murdered by one of said cowards.

Was that pathetic enough? Yes?

Good, she'd do her best to avoid doing that then.

. . .

Before she could respond to Idris, before she could even lift her head again, a familiar screeching blared in her ears as she got slightly knocked off balance by her "best friend"...

Sawyer.

Mei jumped in surprise, which was odd for her but she had let her guard down. And, well, she suffered for it.

"SAWYER I SWEAR TO GOD, STOP DOING THAT!" She yelled at them, her face full of anger as she backed away from them.

"Darcy, you're doing a TERRIBLE job at keeping them in check, what the hell is wrong with you guys?!"

Before she could spew more curses and insults, she sighed and turned away, ignoring Sawyer's hand and trying to make it obvious that she didn't want to be around them.

"But you said none of us should be left alone, right? We can't leave her all alone! Heya!"

"All alone," huh... Yeah, sure, ignore the emo standing right there.

Well, maybe she still was all alone, but she didn't want to admit that. She needed every excuse to just... not deal with Sawyer. Mei had already had enough of their energetics, which was honestly more annoyance and loudness than she could handle, which was saying something.

She didn't say a thing, or even look at Idris or Darcy and Sawyer as she walked past them, which made it unclear if she wanted to be followed or not. Her face was still somewhat negative and she was practically marching away at this point.

Well, she kinda hoped Idris would stick to his word and leave as well, but it's not like she really cared that much at this point.

tsundere moment
