“I’m shocked too but... Nothing bad seems to be happening...” Lesia muttered, looking back up into the sky, then at Rui. “Rui... what’s wrong?” Her voice was stern this time, like she was demanding an answer. She knew that she shouldn’t push, but she was concerned. All she wanted right now was to see her happy, but she knew she wouldn’t see that just by talking to her.

Rui was quiet for a bit before she lifted her head and answered. “That thing will take us out of here, right...?” She asked, like not even she was sure it was safe. After a small nod from Lesia, another tear made its way down her face. “Don’t let me go on there... I can’t go back... I...” she swallowed a lump in her throat before continuing. “Let me die here... please...”

She gave a simple nod before looking back at Rui, struggling to get back up so she could stand properly. “I’m not sure... She looked up at...” she stopped, realizing that Jacovin would have no clue what she was talking about. “The dome broke and a large hovercraft came down, I’m assuming to get us out of the arena....” she explained, continuing to stare at Rui. “She saw it and started crying... she looks upset...” she said sadly, wondering how messed up her head was to be upset about being free. She looked down at the dog, then back at the two tributes that had followed her. She wasn’t all that fond with stuff like that, but she was happy for them. Both of them didn’t have the pleasure of being loved as much as she was, and now they had a chance to be happy again.

She began to smile once she saw how happy they were, it was heartwarming. She looked around to see if any of the other tributes came and surprisingly saw some. “Rui?” The girl she knew from before was with someone else, but she was on her knees and seemed to be crying. She ran over and knelt down, not knowing Jacovin was unable to see. “Rui... what wrong...?” She tried to lift her face up to face hers, but Rui refused. Rui said nothing, but she tried to get up to help Jacovin as he called her name. Lesia looked up at him, wondering if he knew what was wrong, but her eyes widened when he saw his. “What happened to you guys...?”

Lesia looked back at the two, surprised that they were actually following her. As she continued watching the scene, she began to understand more and more. The dome had been broken, and people came to save them. She didn’t have to die, she could go back to her family without the grief of being the victor by killing innocent people. She honestly couldn’t believe it, she was finally able to go home in peace. She was now a bit closer to the cornucopia, watching as everything was happening.

They had finally gotten close enough to see the cornucopia, something Rui was sure she would never see again. She didn’t let go of Jacovin’s arm, but instead she stopped and looked up at the sky. Piece by piece, her questions were answered. The dome they had been trapped in had been broken, and this strange hovercraft came to free the remaining tributes. Rui couldn’t believe it. She didn’t have to die after all... But... why would she want to go...? She had killed so many people in her time here, and so many more before then. She knew she deserved to die a thousand deaths, so why did she think she deserved freedom? A tear began to stream down her cheek as she watched, the overwhelming guilt coming back to her all at once. Her legs began to buckle as she began to shake her head. She couldn’t go back even if she wanted to... She had no one to go back to, and no one wanted to see her. Besides, her parents wanted her dead. That was the least she could do for them... right?

It took Rui a minute to understand what Jacovin was doing, but she finally got it. She got under his arm and started to slowly walk forwards, making sure Laili was following. It would be slow, but hopefully it was worth it. She just had to head to wherever the hovercraft was, right?

Lesia didn’t say another word to them as she darted out, heading towards the center as soon as she saw the hovercraft. She didn’t care if it was dangerous, it was something that would be chaotic and she wanted to know what was going on. Once she was able to see the cornucopia, she stopped. What was going on...?

“I don’t know...” Rui replied, a bit of fear in her voice. She noticed a large... thing coming down from the sky in the center of the map, maybe that was important. “I think we should go to the center...” she said quietly, looking back at him as if waiting for his input

“Sorry for intruding I didn’t-“ she stopped suddenly, for a reason not even she knew. She was still pretty shook and wary, like a baby deer hit by a car, only forced to be cared for by the same human that did so. Well, not the best analogy but it worked. She let out a sigh as her body began to relax. “I’m sorry...” we’re her final words before she attempted to get up to walk out. She couldn’t lift herself up with her arms, so she needed to find a wall to climb up... She awkwardly shuffled her way to a pillar and began to do so, her arms still limp at her side. She looked over at the two, than the entrance, and began to slowly walk off. Suddenly, she heard something... strange coming from outside. She leaned against the frame of the entrance and looked up at the sky, shocked to see what had happened. Did the dome... break? “Hey... you guys might want to see this...” she said, very little enthusiasm in her exhausted voice.

Rui was about to drift off to sleep once again until she heard something that alarmed her. Her eyes shot open and she quickly got up to look outside, seeing the same sight Lesia saw. She wasn’t sure what was happening, but it looked like something broke. She looked back at Jacovin and tried to shake him awake, unsure if it would work

She began to calm down after hearing that, but was still very skeptical and nervous. She was always told to never trust anyone if she ever got into the games, and she needed to put that knowledge to use now. “We?” She hesitantly asked, her voice slightly shaky. Sure, she had seen two people down there, but confirmation made her feel a bit better. Besides, this wasn’t a good situation for her. If the two were lying, she was up against them with no arms and very little energy, she would definitely get killed. But... if they really didn’t want to hurt her...

She listened as the sounds of someone climbing a ladder got louder and louder, each step inducing more and more fear. She backed away from the pattern and almost yelped when she noticed a familiar face rise out of the hole before disappearing once again. Was that... Chelsea? It was very hard to tell, since she wasn’t good with faces, but that didn’t call her nerves down. From the little she had seen from her, Chelsea was dangerous. She didn’t want to cross paths with her in the arena, but fate just loved to play tricks on her

Lesia walked around until she found a strange pattern on the floor, which raised her suspicions. She had never seen one of these before and she wasn’t sure about what to do. Of course, her curiosity got the best of her and she moved forwards, looking to inspect it. As soon as she did, she noticed a hole, one that didn’t look like was supposed to be here. So that means... someone was already here... The bad thing was, she didn’t know if they still were. She knelt down and moved closer to the hole, wondering what it lead to. As soon as she did, she let out a gasp and nearly jumped back, unable to clamp her hands over her mouth like she usually would. She only got a quick glance but she could tell that there were 2 people down there and an iron sword.

Her arms kept hitting the loose sandstone, scaring her half to death each time. The echo was already bad enough, she didn’t need to make it worse. She heard even more talking, still not really understanding what it. Well, one word managed to come through clearly. “Weapon”. A chill went down her spine as she froze, even more scared of what was in here.

After a while she began to hear faint talking, but she couldn’t pinpoint where it was coming from or who was saying it. She kept having trouble getting around due to the lack of her arms, but at least she wasn’t stumbling like an idiot. Now that she had the thought of ghosts being in here, she now worried about embarrassing herself for some reason. Pretty weird considering there were much bigger things at hand, but Lesia wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed. She decided not to call out, confirming if something was really there, knowing it might cause a bigger problem

Something felt... off. She wasn’t sure if it was just because the temple was all ominous or something, but she knew something was wrong. She began to have goosebumps and she continued searching, not looking all too deep in wherever she did so. The longer she stayed here, the more she began to feel a presence. Her and her naive mind kept thinking it was ghosts, but something told her it was unlikely. Sure, Mare existed, but she was all the way back in the tundra, or at least she still thought she was. There couldn’t be any ghosts here... right?

After a long nap, Lesia had managed to recover a considerable amount of strength. She still wasn’t 100%, but at least she could move correctly now. She slowly tried to get up, allowing the dust that accumulated over her to fall off, but something was wrong. She noticed that something was messing up her arms, whether it be the long exposure to cold or the large amount of dust, she wasn’t sure. She could barely move them properly, which was a major problem. If someone came up to her and attacked her, she would be at a large disadvantage, and that wasn’t ideal. She tried her best to fix them the way she always did, but she never had to deal with extreme conditions like this. She tried cleaning them, she tried taking apart some of it and putting it back together, but it didn’t seem to be working that well. “Dammit!” Her arms slumped down beside her as she leaned against the wall, making a loud clank that echoed through the temple along with her voice. Well... that wasn’t a good idea. If anyone was around, they would definitely know she was here now. She decided that she should at least have a look around, hoping she wouldn’t run into anyone. She went inside, carefully scanning the area to see what was inside. She didn’t know Akiro and Chelsea were here, and she had yet to encounter them

The sharp barks and the sudden bite was enough to wake Rui up, even through the overwhelming exhaustion. She woke up with a gasp followed by heaving breaths, retracting the bitten arm as soon as the pain settled in. At first she was scared and confused, wondering what had happened and why her hand hurt. She then looked at the bite marks, then Laili. Why would she bite her? The sudden realization kicked in that the nightmare might have made her react in a way that worried her? She raised her hand to pet Laili as a thanks, unsure of what to do now. She was still exhausted but she couldn’t go back to sleep, and boredom would overtake her if she just sat there

Lesia had noticed a tower in the distance, which piqued her interest. She stumbled over and laid against the wall, too exhausted to continue. Her torch went out by this point, and all she was left with was a stubby twig. She stared at the sky above, waiting for her eyes to close. She decided she would check it out in the morning, for now she was pretty sure she was safe against the wall. Besides, it was very unlikely someone wasn’t already here, so investigating it deeply would just be a waste of time.

Rui couldn’t feel the tugs, it was blocked out by the constant flashing of vivid memories, blocking all sense from the outside world. Thankfully, the flashbacks started to slow down, but that meant she had more time to see each one even more clearly. She was able to calm down a little though, bearing with each memory as it passed. Her breathing was still quick and heavy, but her shaking got less frequent

This was the first test she had in a while where she couldn’t wake up so easily, one where she was trapped in a cage of darkness and terror with no way to escape. Usually she would be quick to wake up due to her unease and nightmares, but her body refused to do any of that right now. She was just trapped in the nightmare she had for so many years, but the horror didn’t change. All it really was was just gruesome flashbacks, but heavily over exaggerated. The scenes showed the horrifying experiment, bloody scenes, and other traumatizing memories. She had somewhat gotten used to it, but only because she could wake up from it quickly. This time, she couldn’t do anything. Her body began to shake, but very slightly, and that was about it. Even if Jacocvin was awake, there wouldn’t have been much of a way to tell what she was experiencing.

Lesia had somehow woken up, still as weak as ever. Well, at least the little amount of rest had given her enough energy to start another fire. She made a small fire and took out a stick, using it as a torch, before putting the fire out and heading off. The desert seemed like a good place right now... She slowly moved forwards with her torch, making a shield around it to prevent the wind from blowing it out. After what seemed like forever, she had made it, the blast of heat hitting her like a brick

Rui didn’t push any further, deciding it was best not to say anything else. She simply dragged herself over to a chair and sat down in it, barely having any control on how she did it. It was almost like she fell, and she kind of did. It resulted in a loud thud before the room went silent again. As soon as she sat down, her eyes clamped shut against her will, making her drift off into a deep sleep. She knew that it was a bad idea, considering she had no clue what Jacovin’s intentions were and if he would kill her or not, but she didn’t care. She even said in the interview that she didn’t plan on going back, and getting killed in her sleep wouldn’t be the worst way to go... At least she would die knowing that she wasn’t completely hopeless, she had felt love for once in her life and that was good enough for her.
