Gadian held out his hands defensively. “How long is this event? Days? Hours?” Gadian asked, scratching the side of his face and looking down on the toad and koopa. Being eight times the height of the two was certainly something.

No violence. The words made Gadian stiffen for a few reasons, but the most prominent was fear. If he was competing against others in ‘sports’ (sports which he probably wouldn’t know, as, to him, the word meant physical activities or games which the young creatures played in the forest), then it would get competitive, and that would mean his strength might get the better of him. Other emotions he felt were disappointment and anxiety, but those were digestable.

Gadian cleared his throat, his same blunt gaze boring into Toadforth and whatever the cocky turtle’s name is. “What happens with the winners?” He asked, tilting his head slightly.

The koopa grinned, leaning off of Toadforth and scratching at her head. “Victory, of course. Fame, honour... why wouldn’t you want to be number one?”

Gadian tensed beneath his fur.

Gadian bit his tongue to hold back the comment which he felt was forcing itself out. “Okay... what do you mean by ‘compete’?” Gadian mumbled the words slowly as if he was afraid of saying something out of line or rude.

Gadian put a protective hand on Yung’s shoulder, bringing him back with him. “Just passing through. We’re leaving now.” Gadian hissed through his teeth, a pang of worry flashing through him as he realised that he had no idea how to get out; he’d never even been in a city remotely similar to this before.

The Koopa tutted, however that was possible. “I don’t think you should go, you’ll be missing out on all of the exciting events! Surely you don’t want that, right?” She muttered, putting on a fairly obvious facade of innocence, before her face contorted into a snicker.

Gadian took a step back, his eyes baring the same blankness. “We’re just travellers, just passing through.” He mumbled, his gaze never breaking for a moment as he retreated.

Dropping behind Toadforth was a yellow... turtle? Whatever the thing was, she was holding two small hammers which, to Gadian, looked like they wouldn’t even be able to break skin, and strangely enough had a top hat. The turtle chuckled heartily, resting an elbow on top of Toadforth’s head as she grinned at the rabbit and Lucario, amusement glittering in her gaze. “Toadforth, you’ve got some pals here. How long are they staying for?” She tilted her head, smiling patiently at the toad.

“No.” Gadian mumbled quickly, his ears pinned back and fur fluffed out to try and subtly intimidate whatever this weird creature was. His paw twitched slightly as he prepared to swipe at the handle of his axe and slam it down onto the creature. He was already working out whether an overhead swing would be enough to crush the creature’s bones into dust, or the colour of its blood. His eyes gave away nothing, the same blunt blue pools looking down onto Toadforth.

Even after locating the voice, Gadian struggled looking at them. He blinked blankly, seeing such a small creature which didn’t even reach his knees. “Hi.” He mumbled reluctantly, not really wanting to introduce himself to this creature, and rather, wanting to get out as soon as possible.

Gadian sheepishly lowered his hand, not wanting to make any unnecessary violent advances. “N-no, admittedly we’re not.” Gadian mumbled, looking around for the source of the voice.

His first reaction was to find a way around the loud city, to avoid ruining whatever they had going on. Gadian pinned his ears back, suddenly conflicted. “Do we have to go through that?” He muttered hesitantly, his paw ghosting over the handle of his axe.

Gadian grimaced, grinding his teeth together as he figured out the physics of such a strange experience. He bit back a bitter comment which contained more than one curse. “I hoped that this would be normal for people who haven’t spent their whole lives in a world without technology...” He grumbled, dreading any other unknown experiences that might come.

Gadian grabbed the hems if his cloak and pulled them inwards, ears flapping uncomfortably behind him. His eyes squinted as the night sky came into view, feeling slightly soothed, but still off-put. “Is... is this what world jumping is gonna be like? Because this is... an experience.” Gadian’s voice was raw with a sort of amused fear, half nervous laughter.

Gadian shook his head, blinking in mild panic as he found his bearings, spotting Yung on a familiar plank of colour which Gadian forgot the name for. Looking down, he saw a similar plank of colour, suddenly realising that changing his weight distribution causes it to move, sort of like a log. Leaning forwards, he slid in beside Yung. “Wh.. where are we?” He stammered, eyes wide and cloak flapping. Gadian had never seen so many colours, it made him dizzy.

Shrugging, Gadian experimentally put an arm through it and felt himself get sucked in. He looked around wildly at the colours before scrambling in the air, his hood falling from his head and strand of fur certainly out of his vision now.

Gadian experimentally lifted his arm, creating a vine from the ground. With a gentle thrust of his arm, he sent the vine through the portal, the vine tearing as soon as it passed the mouth, making Gadian spit a curse before lifting his arm back away and shaking it gently. “That hurt, it won’t hurt us though.” He muttered, rubbing his paws together.

Gadian widened his eyes, feeling the distortion of the tear. He realised how obvious the fact that it was here, feeling the air tugging at his fur. Stupid, keep your guard up. It’s not hard. He thought, his inner voice sneering. He bit back a hiss. “Curious. Is this leading to another world?”

His blue gaze slid away, his body tensing. “Yeah, of course. I know that.” He mumbled, his teeth gritted as he forced a convincing enough grin. Gently shrugging Yung’s paw off of his arm, he flicked his hood over his head in a single movement, a messy clump of fur falling over his eyes slightly. He flicked it away with one paw, but it swung back into his view. He squinted and drew his head back a bit, trying to focus on the Yung like any other normal creature would. His tail flicked in annoyance in his cloak.

Gadian tried not too look too interested, fumbling with his paws as he walked. “Huh, interesting,” He forced his voice to be flat and his gaze empty, his ears flat against his back. “Sorta like the lake at my forest, every hundred years it can answer any question truthfully. You remember it? We visited it once.” He winced at the thought, though it was only noticeable in a twitch of his whiskers.

Gadian was too busy listening to Yung to notice the distortion, his fur lying flat on his body. “Lie? So you can detect lies?” He spoke slowly and carefully, suddenly aware of the real power of his aura. The fighting blindfolded didn’t impress him near as much as the ability to detect lies, he seemed to be taking this topic seriously.
