Not an update in the sense that "something new's here", but more a "devlog"-update on the upcoming server upgrade/migration, as announced in the 11th anniversary post: Today I finally got the codebase of PH to mostly work on the new server. Remember that PH' codebase is over 10 years old, and that most of the libraries/tools we use are no longer supported on newer machines/operating systems. I had to rewrite quite a lot of its code to have it run again. And by run I mean "deliver the index page to the client and make it look identical to the current, old server". That's a first, big step. The major work - i.e. all database-related code - is mostly done now. To test this, I've made a copy of our live database today and transferred it to the new server. So I can pretty much play on two different servers now and produce two different outcomes :P I wonder which server will grant me the better shiny odds ... Either way. When browsing around a bit, however, I noticed that a couple of pages are still broken. They used other old libraries that no longer work, so I have to update some more code. But it's manageable! The biggest problem will be to find all these issues. Perhaps we'll have an "Early Access" to the new server in the near future, so you can have a look and detect some bugs. We will see. I hope you found this little update interesting :) Nothing new to see yet, but things are going well so far. [Read more] |

Shiny: I'm afraid we won't be handing out radar freezes during every event now. On the one hand, you have two months for this event (which, I agree, is probably still not enough for someone hunting Arceus), but on the other hand the reward is also trade-able and doesn't have an eggdex entry. So you don't need to do this event. If you really-really-really want to do it, however, then you'll have to spend a couple of nuggets to freeze the radar yourself. Tellmewhyaintnothing: The Koraidon and Miraidon quests were not events but they are regular quests that you unlock when you reach TL 35. They are always available. The Paradox Donphan-based event is, as the news post mentions, a late-game event, which you should work towards. It incentivises you to progress in the game as a whole. ... Reaching TL 35 within the next 2 months and getting these events is definitely doable. And if not, there's always the option to trade for it or get it in a future re-distribution. ... If your still a new member, there's no need to get these two urgently anyway. There's literally dozens of things to do on PH first, and almost 2000 other Pokedex entries to collect first. Vivillon, Paradox, Mew, and future work ![]() ... But there's no reason to become sentimental! Our journey is not over yet." Following the recent Vivillon (Pride) distribution, we now also have a re-distribution of our other two Event Vivillon via regular distribution: ![]() Vivillon (Fancy) July 1st, 9AM - July 14th, 9AM ![]() Vivillon (Poke Ball) July 14th, 9AM - July 27th, 9AM Their shiny chances increase every time you obtain them from the Event Distribution. Professor Sada and Professor Turo are back with a new Paldean Research Task: For a limited time, you can get the past Pokemon Great Tusk and/or the future Pokemon Iron Treads by helping them with their studies. As always, they have a great interest in Pokemon eggs obtained from Rowan's Lab. They claim there's something awfully... paradox about them. ![]() To start the event quest for Great Tusk, you must have finished the Koraidon Quest with Prof. Sada before. To start the event quest for Iron Treads, you must have finished the Miraidon Quest with Prof. Turo before. Both research options are available until August 31st, 2024. You can complete the research task as often as you like within the event period to get more than one of each new Pokemon. You can't work on both research tasks simultaneously, but you can do them one after the other. Shiny bonus: Both of them have immensely boosted shiny odds (10%). Note that these are late-game quests/events and require Trainerlevel 35 or higher. <img src="//staticpokeheroes.com/img/dw_plushies/0151.png" style="float: right">The legendary Pokémon Mew has returned as a Dream World Event Plushie! It is available until July 16th and can be obtained by fulfilling Dream Point spending goals. With every Mew Plushie that you obtain, the DP requirement increases. To get the first Mew Plushie, you have to spend at least 500 Dream Points at the DW Shop. The 5th Mew Plushie that you get is a Shiny Plushie. Starting on July 15th, everyone who claimed at least one Mew Event Plushie (during this event period) can obtain a Mew Egg at the Ancient Cave! The more Mew Plushies you obtain, the higher your chance is to get a Shiny Mew Egg! <table id="blue_table" style="margin-top: 12px; margin-left: 30px"><tr><th>Mew Plushies</th><th>Shiny Egg Chance</th></tr><tr><td>1</td><td>Less than 0.1%</td></tr><tr><td>2</td><td>1:1000</td></tr><tr><td>3</td><td>1:500</td></tr><tr><td>4</td><td>1:250</td></tr><tr><td>5</td><td>1:100</td></tr><tr><td>6</td><td>1:40</td></tr><tr><td>7</td><td>1:15</td></tr><tr><td>8</td><td>1:8</td></tr><tr><td>9</td><td>1:3</td></tr><tr><td>10+</td><td>1:1 (100%)</td></tr></table> The fact that PH is now 11 years old is a time to celebrate - but at the same time, it means that its code and systems are literally over a decade old. Some of the (very outdated) third-party software that we're using are dropping their support by the end of the year, which technically means that PH will break. But that's of course not going to happen - at least not if I upgrade everything. And yes, I literally mean everything. ... The newer versions of the tools we use require a newer operating system, which requires newer servers. And the new operating system requires... well, a newer code base of PH. PokeHeroes uses libraries that no longer exist out there, which is why I must update about 10% of its code (uff, yes.). So the biggest project of the second half of this year is to make PokeHeroes "future-proof". I will rewrite a lot of its code to make it compatible with up-to-date services, and I will migrate PokeHeroes to new servers. This will require a couple of hours of downtime, which will be announced in due time. Probably don't expect this to happen before August. This may not "exciting" news, but these are very important news. If we want to keep enjoying PH for the next 10+ years, then this update now needs to happen. And of course I will do my best to make this happen as smoothly as possible. My focus in the recent years has shifted a bit from implementing more and more new features to improving those that already exist - and this trend will continue this way. Just this year, Leah and the badges have received visual upgrades plus some QoL features; the GTS has received a new filter mode; the PokeRadar history is now clickable; and the Raylong quest now contains for the "gems traded with the collector" stat - just to name a few of the updates that happened this year thus far. PokeHeroes has many features, because I always felt like "the more the better". More features give you more opportunities to enjoy your time on here. But in retrospect, I think that some of its features feel rushed and a bit clunky. Admittedly, of course, I was still a teenager when I started working on PH, and I simply wasn't exactly a proficient software developer back then. It takes much experience to be decent at programming, and a lot of experience to be good at it. So long story short: I will continue to monitor your suggestions for QoL improvements and will try and update things whenever I have some free time and feel inspired to do so. PokeHeroes not only needs to be future-proof from a system point-of-view, but also from a feature point-of-view. And for that to happen, its features need to feel modern again. All in all, I hope you understand that this will not happen in a day. It took over 11 years (13, technically) to get to this point where we are now. I hope you enjoy the new events! Happy anniversary, my beloved project 💛 [Read more] |

The "x more Dream Points have been spent until new plushies are released"-countdown has been removed for now. Not because we don't want to release any more plushies, but simply because this countdown has never been really accurate anyway. Just because the countdown reached 0 didn't mean that new Plushies were released instantly. There's no auto-release system for them at the moment, it always requires manual steps. And promising a release which then takes a couple of weeks feels kind of disappointing... So instead, for now we will simply release plushies "every now and then". (which, frankly, is how it has been for years now) The next set of plushies will be released on July 1st, which is when PH celebrates its 11th anniversary. Don't forget to save up your dream points for the annual Mew Event :) [Read more] |
