I'm still incredibly new to pokemon, but I've been thinking of
buying one of the games to help myself understand the concept. Any
suggestions on which I should get?
Haven't played any of the following other than X, but the games
from XY onwards (XY, ORAS, S/M, US/UM, SW/SH) are known for being
more hand-holdy and easier. Scarlet and Violet seem to be a little
bit more challenging from what I've seen, and Legends: Arceus
probably isn't good for a beginner as its more of a one-off
gameplay wise.
I'd suggest X or Y, but any of the other ones I listed would also
be great. If you wanted something a bit older, I think
Diamond/Pearl/Platinum would also be good for beginners! Just not
anything Gen 1-3 or HG/SS imo, they need a bit more experience I
think. ironic considering they were the first games.
I guess it really depends on if you'd like something more free
roam, linear, or hand-holdy ^^; I know my first game was Yellow and
I had so much fun, but it's definitely a linear style game. If you
want hand-holdy, go for Sword/Shield..Very limited free roam except
in the "Wild Area", which honestly isn't the best. But if you want
like...BoTW-y kinda free roam, go for the new SV :D Honestly
Scarlet and Violet are becoming my favorite STRICTLY for the free
roam part. If you don't mind the bugs and lag that is until the
game gets fully patched (if it does XD) but that's just my opinion,
feel free to take it or leave it! I'm sure people like myself would
be glad to help if you need it, as I personally have played every
main-line game :3
@alien rby and gsc are NOTORIOUS for being extremely difficult
games, i still have trouble with them. they're extremely buggy and
it's a bit hard to understand where to go if you don't already know
the game. personally, i'd recommend ORAS, the original gen 3 (fire
red, leaf green, and exclusively emerald), X&Y, the let's go
games, or heart gold and soul silver.
overall, i'd just say go for the one that appeals to you the most.
I definitely side with @Daiko on the Let's Go games~ I played Let's
Go Pikachu myself and it's super fun to play! Especially if you
have someone to play with! You guys can both run around and catch
pokemon and fight (most) trainers together! Not only that, but come
on..Who doesn't want a cute Pikachu or Eevee perched on their
shoulder for you to give some lovin to? <3
I'd say XY are the best to start on. The difficulty is low, you
have a beautiful region filled with a great selection of Pokemon.
Mega evolution is not really a mechanic that requires much thought
to use.
