Royal Academy: Mages And Knights
Forum-Index → Roleplay → Royal Academy: Mages And KnightsSamton rushed to strike from the right, effectively forming a pincir. As Kynik withdrew, Tien followed up from behind. As he was covering himself with Kynik, it seemed he'd caught Sir Fisch out of guard.
Sir Fisch quickly pulled back, before realizing his fatal error. Down he was on the floor. Although he attempted to get back up, he could see that he was mostly surrounded. Hence, he threw his weapon to the ground and put his hands up in the air.
As Samton returned his sword, he heard a chuckle from behind.
"That was certainly one way to use earth magic, master Goldenbach." He turned to see Prof Angler watching the field.
"Well he was observant most of the time, but since he tried to bite off more than he can chew, it couldn't be helped huh?"
Prof Angler was talking as he approached the slightly sullen-faced Sir Fisch. "I hope you don't underestimate mages again."
It seemed to Samton as if the magic faction was getting a well awaited chance to rile the knight faction up, so he decided to join the others.
"Great work out there. You two especially, Sir Kynik and Tien. He was always checking terrain so the pinsir helped break his concentration."
If Sir Fisch hadn't already picked himself up, Kynik would offer a hand to help the man up himself. He'd take the opportunity it to shake his hand once he was standing. "Thank you for the chance to fight sir. I'm fairly sure these would not have been the results in a 1 on 1. I truly hope your skill rubs off on me if I work hard enough."
His face turned towards Samton who'd taken to walking back to his own class. "I appreciate your words." He waves with a left hand, his right returning to the hilt at his waist. "It was good working with you all. I'm sure the future will hold greater experiences."
"With that, I'll end the matches for the day. Everyone shall fight the golems Prof. Angler will conjure up." Sir Fisch announced.
To this, Prof. Angler leaned in closer and whispered; "Oh my, running away, a r e n ' t w e ?"
He then proceeded to create quite a few golems without waiting for a reply.
"Since you're knights, I'll have you fight an armed opponent."
He then gave all the golems two-handed longswords, swords and shields, axes, or lances.
"Choose what you believe would be best to fight, and do so. Those who fought Sir Fisch might choose not to participate."
The next task was optional. Kynik wouldn't bother with his sword at first. It would take the students on average longer than he would want to sit down. He plopped himself on the ground on the side lines, allowing the rest of the students to participate in the golem fight first. He sat with a raise knee to lean on, watching his classmates.
The man pulls his hands back so he could lean back on them and glances further down. Some were definitely better than others... and a handful maybe had only recently started their weapons training.
1 minute, 3 minutes, 7.
He gets up from the ground, brushing himself off. He didn't actually need a break but he did want to have that chance to watch the other students in their movements. A strange thing to note but these were the people he would potentially be working with in the future. Scouting talent and skill would be the best way to keep track of what people can and may be able to do later.
Kynik stretched and arm, clasping his wrist. A soft pop emitted, his hands going for a shake after and he made a grab for the blade at his waist. He walks his way down the line, eyeing the students and approaches an unclaimed golem. He grabs it's attention and makes a dash with a small bounce at the end.
He sized up the moving hunk of rock, holding its lance. Letting it take a thrust, he dodges, dodges and then parries the third pushing towards it. The jump carries him against the animated creature, a short swipe aiming for a joint. He lands on the other side and bounces quickly away, turning back towards it.
He'd need to test a few different places for hitting, it was all a matter of timing. Clearly though it was fair bit durable. It was going to take a while.
As the fights continued, a sudden bout of headache hit Samton. Many other mages also experienced the same, as was visible from their demeanor. Unexpectedly, and extremely surprisingly, the golems all fell, broke, and perished.
A shocked Prof Angler held his head. Fear emanated from his eyes. He opened his mouth, but no words came to his assistance. Samton, who was momentarily confused, realized what the matter was. It had hit him like a carriage.
"Erdgeist . . ."
"No way-" Tien, who finally understood, also bore the same expression.
"We must reach Principal Sparmi, now."
"No need."
Sparmi was already there, and replied. His voice was quite grave, which was rare, but warranted.
"I think it would be best we dissolve the classes for the day. Prof Angler, Sir Fisch. I'll await you at the meeting room. Prince Goldenbach, get in touch with his Highness your father, if you would."
"Understood."
His attention diverted to the teacher with a questioning gaze. Why did he stop the testing all of a sudden? No, he could see the man holding his head. The student kept blade on hold, his free hand pushing up at the hair over his forehead. Once again, things were being canceled and all he could do was grimace in disappointment.
Taking the hint as students began moving their way off the field, the brown haired male finally put his broadsword away, patting its handle and jogged towards where the rest of the students had started collecting.
Therese felt a sense of discomfort and dread from the moment she entered the academy. Though that was before the headaches, it was more of the amount of mages she had during introduction. There, she felt a weird feeling for the first time. As if everyone around her was just eyeing her... her anxiety. It had never occured to her before, since she was a lone girl in her room all day. Which is why she made herself smaller, always walking in a crouched manner and covering her height with the robe, while pulling the hat down as much as she could, to not be noticed. And now with the headaches factored in, this is the worst she's felt ever since she drank mercury... but now she just stood at the Academy Farms, planting it a little seed and glaring at it with an absent gaze.

You know the first rule in combat? Shoot them before they shoot you.
A seemingly sourceless voice resounded in the Goldenbach Palace court. His Royal Highness The Emperor Rex Goldenbach was sitting with in deep thought, and it came as a slight surprise.
"Yes, Your Highness. The Prince wishes to speak to you regarding the recent occurrences."
"Understandable. Speak, Samton. Would it happen to be of the same news I Myself was alerted but a few minutes ago?"
"Yes, Your Highness. It is about the tremor in the elemental plane, relating to the ground element."
"As expected. What do you think about the same?"
"Herr Erdgeist is deeply hurt, perhaps worse. I contact you under the instruction of Principal Sparmi."
"Very well. Time is running short, I presume? I will arrive there in two days time. Inform Sir Sparmi of this.
"Understood"
Transmission magic; the art of carrying conversations through the wind. This art belonging to the wind element is used during extreme emergencies, as it is very heavy in one's mana. One of the reasons why Tien was chosen as Samton's assistants was his ability to use this; Tien himself knew. As he sat down, catching his breath, Samton brought him a cup of tea.
"Good work, Tien."
"Thank you, Your Highness Samton."
Tien drank it, clearly exhausted.
"Well, I will go report to Principal. Wish to accompany me?"
"Of course, Your Highness"
Saying this, Tien put his cup down and walked ahead, to Sparmi's room, following Samton.
He made a second lap around the lake, doubling back because of the river that prevented a full circle. By the time he approached the otherside of the river, meeting the blocking waters again, he slowed his pace. Whatever was going on, he hoped for a solution and resolution. He paused knealing by the river's entrance, arms sloped to his knees and sat there in observation, watching some small fish try to swim against the river's current.
The student tilts a head still staring down in the water, lost to his thoughts again.
While he had been in a crouch, which could allow him to stand at any given moment, being joined by a second person, he allowed his bottom to touch the grass, sitting down proper. He blinks, stealing another glance at the girl holding her flowers. He didn't recognize this as one of the students from the ceremony or previous classes. He'd been careful to try to remember those who'd introduced themselves as well. Was she a late comer?
"Salutations M'lady. What brings one such as yourself all the way out here?" He greeted her wave by returning it.
"I was not doing much, more or less wasting time. Classes were cut short so I fancied myself a jog and a break after 2 laps around the lake." The male admitted with a chuckle. He seemed to be prone to talking with his hands though he restrained himself to the best of his ability for as long as his speech were to remain formal. "The view from here is interestig and it seems the lake has plenty of wildlife. I am known as Kynik, by the way. I am pleased to make the acquaintance of such a curious lady."
"This is Samton, Prof Sparmi."
"Enter." Sparmi motioned Samton and Tien to take a seat. They did so, and Sparmi himself sat down.
"What did His Highness say?" Sparmi's voice was firm, but meek.
"He said he would arrive here in two days time."
"I see. Well, whatsoever be the case, we will not be able to discontinue classes much longer. You are aware of what 'Circles' are, yes?"
"I believe you are referring to the different groups students form based upon their interests and the like?"
"Yes, That is it. Since these three days would leave you with a lot of free time, I would like the students to decide upon those." Saying this, Sparmi pointed to a stack of papers on his desk. "Those are forms for circle registration. They also have guidelines. I believe you two know what to do?"
With a little bow, Samton took the papers. He then walked to the nearby cupboard. Tien opened it for him with his keys, and Samton put them in there. These 'lockers' sure are convenient, to be able to take them out from any other locker.
"That would be all." Sparmi gave a half-smile and nodded.
"Thank you."
"Thank you, Professor."
The boy would continue to listen to her questions, giving them a proper hearing. "None that I know of. The closest thing I've got is a Stallion back home. I inquired about bringing him but the choice was shot down. Likely father just saying no." He sighed, his head lolling slightly to the side with the breath.
"Oh." He blinked having noticed Midnight, sitting up a little straighter. Where had he seen this animal before? "I suppose I'll have to ask as well, I presume you're of the mage courses?"
He frowned for a moment but turned his attention back to the young woman sitting next to him. "I may have to write back to try again. I do not know his reasoning for rejection but Toffee is definitely my horse. Wouldn't leave me alone as a colt, and wouldn't leave me alone after he got full grown." Had had begun smiling in remembrance without realizing it but looked to the large creature when she had mentioned it.
"If she'll have me, I wouldn't mind." He raises a hand with fingers wide to let Midnight have an introductory sniff before petting. Unaware to him though, it was possible he was still tainted with the light magic Samton had used on him earlier to rejuvenate and heal him. It was very well possible that Midnight, as a beast of darkness and light's opposite, may not react well to his touch.
"It was probably because of the exams this morning. I had a puma try to rip my arm off... But they were doing testing in classes too so I uh. We got help from one of the mage students to get it fixed." The man would shake his head thinking about it. It was true, his earlier encounter wasn't exactly the cleanest battle and he could have just used his left hand to fight against the professor but Tien had wanted to see him at his full potential. He very much had eagerly agreed to the repair.
His fingers flexed a bit in thought but they quickly turned to the buttons of his jacket. "If you don't believe me I can-" The jacket was pulled off, dumped on the grass next to him. Clearly, it had been a replacement, the shirt underneath was still dirty and torn. From the tears, one could see the bandages still wrapped tightly from when he'd visited the medical ward. His fingers worked to undo the shirt buttons as well, sliding the torn half from the right shoulder.
"Honestly I should have removed these already, they're fairly tight and I don't exactly need them." He said picking at the edge of the bandage until an end came loose, unwrapping the previously damaged deltoid. The bandage itself was fairly soaked after the first few layers were unwrapped but once uncovered, the wound was very much missing. He moved, putting an arm back through the damaged sleeve, casually playing with the folds of long ribbon stained with brown. He awkwardly laughed at the dirty thing. "I'm thankful, magic is useful. It makes bandages seem like a useless tool sometimes. I'm sorry it uh, upset your wolf though."
The topic of the horse had been brought up again. "Well he's only 3 so I can't say he's the fastest. He's mostly grown but he's got another 2 or 3 years to fill out. But Toffee is pretty fast. He's got most of the height he should have by now so it's mostly the muscle bulk he's missing. I'm sure he might get a little faster in a year when he gets those last few inches to his height. An extra inch in your leg is definitely a good way to guarantee your stride is longer."
