Melody yawned and stretched her arms. Wow, yesterday had been quite
the experience. She climbed out of bed and went downstairs. Her mom
was making breakfast, and her dad was nowhere to be seen. Probably
in his office again. Hadrian was sitting at the table, trying to
put his elbows on the table without knocking over any boxes. Melody
joined him and realized that her mom was talking on the phone and
her brother was busy eating, so she couldn't tell any of them about
yesterday, or even that she wanted pancakes. Then again, maybe she
should keep that a secret. At least she had a new school to keep
her busy. Melody waited for her mom to absentmindedly flip an egg
onto her plate and hand it to her without looking and then dug into
it.
Kieran's limbs ached from yesterday's wandering. He rolled out of
bed and stretched. He needed to be at the school today, not that he
had any classes. He'd just managed to get a part time job cleaning
there whenever the school needed. Kieran was technically still
young enough for classes, but no one seemed to notice or mind
much... he mostly needed the money from the job. Rent for his place
was hard to pay, and a guy needed to eat. He bought a few oranges
from the store before strolling to school.
Nightmare yawned underground, and opened his eyes. He slithered in
a circle, and shot out of the ground like a firework, before
landing with a thud. He looked around “what to do today?” He
grumbled, looking for suspicious signs of activity
Melody ran upstairs to change and when she came back down, she also
had her backpack. Hadrian was waiting by the door, making his "I'm
such a drama queen and I want to get to school a little but I'm
super exaggerative" face and leaning against the door. "Come ooon,
you take forever!" Melody rolled her eyes and punched his arm
playfully. "I don't take that long, you just want an excuse to
exaggerate and embellish." Hadrian rubbed his arm. "For a girl, you
seriously pack a punch." Melody scowled and punched him harder.
"Don't give me that!" Hadrian gulped. "Geez, fine. Now let's go
already!" "You got your schedule?" "Yep!" The two of them hurried
out and towards the school, which was visible from their house.
After checking in at the school, Kieran was tasked with mopping the
floor. Not a fun job by any means, but not as boring or insulting
as cleaning the washrooms. Kieran let out a sigh. He enjoyed living
amongst humans... but to do so, he needed money, and money meant
work... Sometimes he had the urge to go back and live in the forest
again, but always ended up pushing the idea away. After all, where
else could you enjoy a civil conversation, or read a book, or buy
food instead of foraging? As students flowed into the building,
Kieran moved aside, putting the mop against a wall and waiting for
the tide of people to ebb.
“Ooh. A school” he grinned “lots of little popcorn nuggets for the
eating” he grinned, slithering across the street, towards the
school, and hissing like a broken boiler
Melody pushed open the doors, ducking to avoid others. She
seriously had problems, being in high school and being as short as
a middle schooler. This was not her favorite part of starting a new
school. Like, did every high schooler have to be so freaking tall?!
She groaned as she watched Hadrian make his way over to some other
kids and start talking. How?! How did he always do it? She was
supposed to be the extroverted one. Oh well. That's when she
noticed Keiran. She glanced at her watch and then at the piece of
paper clutched in her hand. She still had time! She pushed her way
through the crowd until she was near enough to say, "Hey! I never
got to answer your question!" That's when she saw the mop. Was he
working here?! Wasn't he old enough to attend?! That was strange...
"Hmm?" Kieran nonchalantly darted his eyes to face the voice. Ah,
it was Melody. He casually pulled the hood of his smoky gray jacket
further over his head. Judging from the incident with Darreon
yesterday, Melody was one of the few humans with the ability to
percieve monsters in their true forms, and she would NOT hesitate
to call him out if she saw his raccoon dog ears. Luckily, they were
already safely out of view.
"In here!" Winnie called. She was currently back in the kitchen,
hastily munching on a piece of toast as she loaded up her backpack.
Her eyes darted to the clock sitting on the wall nearby, each
glance making her a bit more nervous. The brunette had spent the
majority of the previous night tossing and turning in her bed,
unable to get the events of that day out of her mind.
Unfortunately, when she did finally get to sleep, it was for way
too long, and now she was about to be late to school!
"No I'm okay." Winnie replied quickly. "Its just that I slept in
too long, so I'm on a really tight schedule." She briefly
glanced at the clock again, and paled. "Dang it!" She muttered.
"I'm never gonna make it on time now."
Admin sighed, as he walked through the halls of the high school. He
was tall, And quite strong, so most people didnt pick on him, but
he hated when he saw someone get bullied.
Kieran turned his attention back to mopping the floors. Eventually,
he propped up the mop on the wall again, and headed outside.
Sometimes, the bustling atmosphere of the school overwhelmed him a
little, and he needed a break. Kieran often wondered if that was
part of being part animal, or if he was just naturally like that.
Yawning, he took a coupld deep breaths of the crisp, morning air.
He took a calm glance up to the roof of the school... where he saw
the edge of a coil of what appeared to be a giant snake. Shoot.
Quickly, Kieran noped it back inside the school.
