Before we get started, let me explain a little about RPtalk.
What is RPtalk?
It's a collection of posts where I talk about common problems with PH RPs.
What's the purpose of doing something like this?
I do this in hopes that it will help people make better RPs in some way, as many RPs currently on PH are pitiful.
How long is it going to be?
Perhaps forever, as long as I can find topics to rant about. Maybe I'll change up topics once a new wave of problems appear.

First of all, I'd like to criticize
most RPs with teens as main characters.
Due to the fact that most RPs on PH are based around dramatic events (experiments, wars, etc.), it is highly doubtful that teenagers would ever be part of such events. At least a high school romance-type RP actually fits the characters well- but a RP where teens are soldiers in a war isn't exactly good RP material. A RP that doesn't feel realistic isn't immersive- it feels like you're leaning on the fourth wall. If you're going to make a RP, at least make it feel like something that could happen in the settings you've created. And even then, you've got to make the settings make sense.
Secondly, I'd like to criticize short RP posts.
While this isn't a problem that's as big as bad base material, this is still quite annoying- imagine a RP with so much potential where the participants post in one-line posts that only cover a second or so of the plot. I'm not demanding page-long posts, either- as long as you actually put work into writing your post, I'm fine with it. There may even be situations where a shorter post may be necessary to allow someone else to advance the story, but usually you don't have to go to such lengths.
While this isn't an actual rant, I'd also like to remark on the state of RP layouts.
Even if your idea is promising, you can't express it properly unless you manage to explain it properly in your first post.
Clean [code] and [spoiler] tags are a must for forms- it helps separate them from the other explanatory text, and it lends an air of professionalism to the thread.
The third topic for today is romance.
To put it simply in the words of Buzz Lightyear,
"Romance, romance everywhere"
Romance is most likely unnecessary for a RP with any degree of seriousness. People dating each other while doing something completely unrelated doesn't make any sense- keep your romance to romance-related RPs, unless the plot line is constructed so two (or more) characters fall in love with each other.
