"You've won the war but not the battle. Next time we meet I'm expecting to see that coin purse back. It's from my home town and I guess you could call me the sentimental type. And if you try to steal from me again," his tone grew slightly darker, "You won't be leaving me with both kidneys intact, I can tell you that." With that, he slung his coat over his shoulder and walked out. As he left the shade, the sun began to beat down on him again, threatening sunburn, but he didn't mind it as much this time. His cool facade had mainly been a cover so he could get back to his main gold stash and finally restock his spell books so that he could give the thief a few burns of his own. [Read more] |

"Excuse me sir, but why is it you are hassling this young woman? She seems to have it harder than you, so why are you being so rude to her. Could you be compensating for something? Perhaps you have some deep emotional scaring from your childhood. Or maybe you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Still no excuse for rudeness, but it is more easily forgiven in that case." The voice came from above and behind Alastar, who turned and found himself facing a dark mage that was nearly a head taller than him. "Rude? Bite me," he snapped. Rude was a trivial term to him. All he wanted was his money back, was that too much to ask? Unlike her, he had earned that money, and he had no intention of losing all of his money that was on hand and having to make the trip back to his gold stash in this Naga-forsaken heat. His head swiveled back and forth from thief to mage, unsure if either of them were going to make a move. "I'm just trying to get back what's rightfully mine. You have no business here, so leave." That's right, shoo. Go bother someone else with your social justice. [Read more] |

"Hm? I'd like to hear it. Is it buying yourself something nice, not caring if the money you just stole robbed weeks of someone's life, or that they might not have the money to eat anymore?" His legs were bent slightly, ready to dodge or pounce at a moment's notice. His eyes were calculating, sizing up his opponent and running possible scenarios through his mind. It was a tactician's job and specialty to know everything about their foe at a glance, and Alastar was no exception. Thoughts and ideas ran through his head as he took in everything from her clothes, eyepatch, poor depth perception and peripheral vision, light clothing, high mobility sacrificing defense, to her personality, cocky, probably underestimates opponents, scars are probably from a tragic past, likely from abuse or being caught as a thief, and used it to devise his battle tactics. "It's called saving dimwit, I don't think you seem to understand the concept. I need that money for more than just a spell book and some food, but obviously you've never heard of goals or you wouldn't have become such a lowly purse snatcher." Alastar recalled a young boy they'd caught once trying to steal from his family's wares. He had insisted that they turn the boy into the city guard, but his father sat the boy down and gave him a pastry, asking the little boy what his dreams were. "Dreams?" The child looked up at the older man with a confused face. "Yes. Like what you wanted to do or who you wanted to be when you grow up," Alastar's dad replied, with a warm smile. "Well uh, I guess I wanted to be a wyvern tamer. But then my parents left me. They left me behind and now I can't because I don't have anyone to take care of me or teach me stuff," the boy replied. "But it's a good dream, isn't it? You shouldn't give up on it just because of the lot you were cast in life. Here." The man handed the boy a small handful of coins. "A kid like you should be able to get yourself an apprenticeship somewhere. Even if it isn't taming those wyverns, you can wait until you have enough money so you can. And when you do, promise me that you'll be the best wyvern tamer that there ever was." "Doesn't matter if you're a thief," Alastar grumbled, "Everyone's got something they want in life. My ol' pop taught me that. I do, and you're no different. And you're also going to give me back my hard-earned gold so I can make that something happen and you can get your stupid act together and find out yours." At the last word, he dashed towards the thief, ready to throw some punches and not caring how it would look if someone spotted him punching a girl. [Read more] |

"It's not beneath me to feed starving people. Now, stealing from me makes me a little less inclined to help you, but I'll buy you a meal if it means you giving me my coin purse back." One of his eyes twitched. He draped his coat back over one of his arms before recrossing them again as he waited for the thief to make her move. [Read more] |

The tactician was simply angry now as he jumped to his feet, and his hand itched to reach for his sword but he restrained himself. "Look," he fumed, "we can do this the easy way or the hard way. I just want my money back so I can buy a new spell book. Is that too much to ask?" He glared at the thief darkly, imagining the many different things he would do if she didn't give him back his gold. "Gimme back my gold, you rotten scoundrel!" Alastar snarled. "And learn how to sneak away next time, you won't believe how easy it was to find you." [Read more] |

Deciding to start in the capital country. It makes the most sense as to why a bunch of random people would be gathering there. I can't read the city names so I'm leaving that up to you guys. TvT) Alastar Aisling casually strolled through the grand capital city of Alacard. What was its name again? I've passed through so many towns they're all starting to blur together. The sun beat down upon his back as he weaved his way through the crowd, stopping to look at an outdoor shop that piqued his interest every now and then. He tried to pass under as many trees and shady overhangs as he could, but he could feel his arms and face getting crispier by the second since it was too hot to wear his tactician's coat, which was draped over his left forearm. I can't wait until winter, that's the one time the weather doesn't make me uncomfortable, he thought dully as he exchanged a few coins for an apple, and settled down under some nearby shade under a tree at the side of the cobbled road. That was the one good thing about this country: at least in this tree-covered land there was plenty of shade to go around. He nearly grimaced as he remembered the mistake he'd make passing over the plains in the heat of summer. Frisk, Alastar's caribou pack animal (who was currently at a nearby stable to avoid too much attention), had seemed like it was about to collapse from heat exhaustion, along with its owner. "At least the food is good," he mumbled under his breath before biting into his apple. Up north, they weren't able to grow fruit, and it was rare to see it come in from trade caravans or ships. Even then, it was dried fruit, which wouldn't spoil during the long journey. Apples were a particular favorite of Alastar because of their crispness, but he would take almost any that he could get his hands on. Except lemons. He had tried eating one once, and immediately regretted it. Of course it was only after that he learned that the juice was only used for flavoring, and in small amounts. [Read more] |
